I don't think marriage is forbidden in pop squad as you said, in the episode they say something along the lines "if we were not going to live forever, i would marry you", meaning that is not the prohibition, but the immortality that makes it pointless, if you're not going to be married until death, then the union is as temporary as just being together for a while.
@basedbattledroid35073 жыл бұрын
Yeah, marriage isn't forbidden, it's just that immortal people will eventually lose those attachments to someone, not all but most people marry because they don't want to die alone, but when there's no certainty that you're going to die at all; that kind of falls by the wayside. Only thing that was forbidden was reproducing, because of the overpopulation.

What I got from the tall grass episode was this, The train was a vessel carrying souls to heaven. The blue demons were human that are stuck in limbo. The train stops at that exact location to test the soul to see if it'd ready to go to the next world or not.
@BisayaReader3 жыл бұрын
My fave is the tall grass. It has such a powerful metaphor. The train represents life. In the episode, the train stopped, and just like life, we sometimes encounter challenges that made our world stop. The protagonist represents us all, we sometimes get lost and wander out of the path even though our loved ones/friends told us not to (train operator). Outside the straight path (the train tracks) are distractions in life (monsters) that will either take us away from the right path or even destroy us fully. What I love the most about the Tall Grass was the resolution. That no matter how many monsters we face, there is still hope of going back to the right path. And some people just like the train conductor will always be there to help us. It reminds us that we are not alone and there is always still hope. 🙏

@fakename91863 жыл бұрын
Yeah it becomes pretty clear early in the episode that the giant is actually a whale, that is depicted as a giant human because that's how the protagonist views him. In the first few lines he describes that the giant's gender is apparent through subtle features, the way a biologist or zoologist might notice the sexual dimorphisms in animals that they study. None of the people treat him as a giant person, nor is there any global shock about the existence of another humanoid species on the planet. It's not until the final line that the narrator really confirms that it is a whale and that only the narrator views him as almost human.

And yes, I know they're shorts and they can't set up whole worlds in 13 mins but I thought season 1 did a much better job at drawing me in, keeping me there AND rounding out the story & characters. One episode was only 7 mins! I've watched commercials that were longer. I also felt like this season sort of rehashed some of the themes from last season. It's good entertainment, but the entire thing is less thought provoking. In my mind the first volume worked well because they were able to condense a thought provoking theme in a measly 9 minutes for most of the episodes. The only episode in this volume that does the same is Pop Squad. Snow would be 2nd but even then the entire thing can be summed up in the sentence "man, living forever would suck".

@@bryant8307 that's totally fair. I suppose it's to be expected, considering there's almost a third less episodes compared to the first. Snow, automated customer service and pop squad were the only ones that truely fit the theme of love death and robots and my favourites especially snow... there rest were more of just well animated shorts...
@jmrabz3 жыл бұрын
In Life Hutch he is literally trying to stay alive against a robot trying to kill him haha. The Tall Grass and The Drowned Giant both did a pretty good job covering the theme of death and what happens after you die. You could argue that Ice was about brotherly love? A Through the House though I don't think fit the theme.

anyone else felt bit underwhelmed with season 2? Beyond aquila rift is so memorable even now.. cant rem one episode from season 2 that i wanna rewatch. something was off this season.. i dunno.. maybe not many good music tracks? i cant pin point.. stories are bit eh for me.. most of these episodes are like demo reels than short stories. i did love Pop squad. i personally love stylized cgi rather too realistic style. like sonnies edge from last season had such cool soundtrack with stylistic cgi , even the witness.. fak i been waiting for season 2 for so long... and wanted it to be amazing :(
@Wiggles1313 жыл бұрын
I agree. Season 2 just wasn't as strong story and animation wise. Season 1 had amazing twists and connected me with the characters, it also had very unique and beautiful animation styles. "The witness" from Season one is one of my favorites because the art style has never been seen before and it blows me away, the twist was so good too. Season 2 just wasn't that great. I didn't connect with much of the characters and most of the episodes stories felt eh. It was good, but very disappointing.
@cristianperezbrunet79443 жыл бұрын
Snow and the Pop Squad are my favorites. Life Hutch had amazing CGI but the story was similar to Automated Customer Service " A human has to save himself from a robot going crazy". The Giant had a nice message, makes you wonder if some myths were real at some point in history.

Pop squad is by far the best short I’ve ever seen. Incredible story telling in such a short amount of time. To this day easily my favorite love death and robots episode.
@spookystoryguy75933 жыл бұрын
Season 1 had a complex mix of styles genres and animation styles. While season 2 was good, it simply didn't have the creativity and variety of the first. There was hardly any 2d animation at all. The studio that handled the 3 projects were good, but that's almost half the series, and I feel that other studios should've been given the chance to work on season 2 instead.

There's so much more insight here compared to everything else I've seen about this volume! You did a phenomenal job! There's so much you pointed out here I wouldn've never even guessed were a thing! The names of the characters in Pop Squad having meaning tied to the story? Like, damn! What an eagle's eye you have! I myself couldn't have made that connection. I even thought "Pop" in the title meant popping a cap on the kids lol. Dunno how you see these things through, but just keep doing it regardless. It's fun to watch!

i had problems with some episodes in season 1, like The Dump, Blind Spot and i hoped they will fix it in season 2 and won't do some meaningless, forgettable episodes based just on simple story and action, but no. The part on Snow where that mercenary couple were fighting with snow and Snow had the woman at gunpoint in a standoff with her lover / the other merc, and she was like "baby!" - up until that point we didnt even know they were romantically involved and it was so dark and cold how the man just shot her with zero hesitation because the mission/bounty was way more valuable to him. She meant nothing to him - and in her life or death moment he just shot her - his supposed lover/gf/wife whatever - was so dark and brutal. I still think about it and its haunting.

I think we might have missed the meaning of the sun in whole series, Sunset city in automated costumer service , meaning of sun in Snow in the desert, sunset in the drowned giant. Might be a symbol for something ? if we look closely, bad things mostly happen in places deprived of real sunshine ( at night, or under the dark clouds)

All Through The House Was Genius...And Is Definitely Going To Be Underated...It Brings Up Sooooo Many Questions...What WOULD Have Happened If One Of Them Were Naughty ? Our Minds Go Straight To "Santa " Killing Him/Her ... But That Can't Be .. Because We See The Children Loving The Fact That Christmas Is Here..If Children Randomly Dissapeared Or Died On Christmas..It Wouldn't Be A "Good Thing" Plus It Tried To Make Them Laugh .. So Its Not Evil...And Since Its Santa Does He Have Reindeers? And If He Looks Like That What Does His Reindeers Look Like .. He Doesn't Seem To Have Wings So He Definitely Has Reindeers ..Would They Have Gotten Coal ? We'll Never Know ... Im Telling You That Story Was Genius..

Snow in the desert would make for a fantastic Dune prequel. Imagine finding out about that universe before the actual books. I imagine it would aesthetically look very similar and considering there's already a premise surrounding a desert, severe heat and a lack of water the parallels are easy enough to connect for a completely new audience. Hell, Snow could be the prototype for the Mentats. The sheer possibilities here are astounding.

Just got done watching season 2 it was wonderful, my favourite short film being the 'The long grass' I loved the art style, the old English vibe an unexplained plot. I didn't even know that they where gonna makes season 2 but I'm glad they did and I'm glad you're here to explain them. Also I Liked the 'Drowned giant' me being British, but thought it was disturbing with all the people barely reacting to a corpse of a giant on a local beach and the way the trampled over it as if it was a play ground it was weird and disturbing, but it saved it at the end with the ending speech overall 8 of 10 for the 'Drowned Giant' Excellent That Christmas short was fucked tho I never want to experience Christmas knowing that demon comes down chimney. Every year. Sorry for spelling mistakes.
