One of the things I liked about the show is that the actor who played Wilhelm is/was only a couple years older than the character he’s playing. It was just refreshing to see a character actually look their age.

I was so happy to come across a new reaction video of YR! 😃 I would gladly answer some of the questions you had, the ones I remember at least. ☺️The Swedish school system is different from the US, here we have preschool for six years old, followed by mandatory school from 7 till you are 15, the year you turn 16 you start “gymnasium” (not mandatory but everybody do) guess you would say high school. You go there for three years and graduate the year you turn 19, then you can go to uni. August and his friends Vincent and Nils are third year students, Wille and Simon are first year. Sara was bullied at their old school so Linda (their mother) let them transfer. Sara is one year older than Simon but they are now in the same year. In Sweden the education/classes are free if there are vacancies in the school but boarding costs. A lot. So they live at home. And Wilhelm really “sees” Simon when Simon sings louder, after Vincent tried to humiliate him, Wilhelm sooo much wants to stand up for himself but he doesn’t dare … so … seeing Simon do it is amazing... 😀 Alcohol is illegal to buy if you are under the age of 20, it’s illegal to sell to minors and it is only possible to buy at one government controlled store/brand “Systembolaget” or Systemet” in short. They are super careful about the age control, if you look one day younger than 35 you definitely need to prove you are of age. 😆 and alcohol in “Systemet” is expensive, and Micke (short for Michael) definitely takes som extra for the service, so it will cost the guys more than it actually costs in the store. Your reaction is interesting. You saw Wille loneliness, and humbleness from the start, well done. Yes he is pretty different from the elitist rich kids Simon is used to. As you said, surprising that he appreciated Simon's political view, which is radically opposite to what he leaves. and Simon saw how sensible Wille was, reacting to his singing. Wille was taken by surprise by the bravery of Simon, while singing or speaking his mind, what himself is not allowed to have the freedom. As you say, does the royal life is worth the sacrifice of his freedom. His mum says yes "it is a privilege not a punishment". It is the main plot of the show: "How a very restricted person is able to love freely"? As you said Simon is the only person who succeeds to make him smile, that is pretty big, right. Yes August represents the elitist part, and disproves the relation between Wille and Simon. So he does his best to avoid it developing too far. For him, it is unacceptable that a working class person is close to upper class one as Wille. I am glad you see that Sara is behaving badly with her mum, being elitist already. Sara and Simon go to that school with a scholarship to follow the classes, because they are both good at school. When they go to take the bus, Simon makes sure Sara is not bullied (having Asperger), because they had to leave their old school because of it. so he tries to take care of her. Yes Wille is 16 in the show, and the actor Edvin was 17 in real life. You are right, the relations between people feel natural, and genuine (except August). Yes I felt bad for Simon's dad too. And being gay is not "a thing" in the show. You are right, Scandinavian show know how to make it real. It is authentic and raw.

I think the actor did a great job of subtly portraying Wille's longing to be "normal" and humbleness just from his facial expressions in some situations! The fact that he's so different from the person you would expect him to be is what makes him so fascinating to me. It's interesting that he was so drawn to Simon because he's a free spirit, I didn't think about that but it makes so much sense! Thanks for clarifying that they're there on a scholarship! I was confused as to how they could afford to go there lol I'm so happy that they don't make being gay a big thing ugh that's so refreshing

No there's no scholarships, all educationin Sweden is free. It's the boarding that is veeery expensive.

I started second guessing myself during episode 3 because it sounded like some characters say “Wil” instead of “Vil” but I think I’ll stick with saying “Vilhelm” because it makes me feel more Swedish haha
