Time travel is a widely-recognized concept in science fiction and philosophy. Where in most films the protagonist typically uses some form of devices such as a time machine or portal to jump between certain points within time or space.
In which I don’t there there’s a film type that can so directly address the human condition. Where if time travel was real? Would it possible to travel backward or forwards in order to fix the wrongs of the past, or create a new and better future.
But as time travel films aren't technically a genre, I’m going to be focusing on movies where the main character has some form of control over the time travel within the realm of science fiction. So that means movies like Ground Hog day will not be present, as I’ll be saving them for a more fantasy based video following this one.

Shane Carruth's Primer is AMAZING. Think of it as a movie about friendship and trust and you might realize more about what is happening. Remember, sci-fi for the sake of sci-fi is never the point- it's just the backdrop. Sci-fi stories are about humanity. "If I walked up to you and your best friend and gave you clues to find a treasure chest, and you intuited several of the answers immediately, would you share them? Or would you quickly solve them all independently in hopes of keeping the box to yourself? And then, would you replace the treasure chest with something good, but less than what was previously, in the hopes of splitting that “treasure” and seeming like the helpful benevolent you are not? And then would you go back and share hints to the answers you’ve already discovered? And then, what if you realized your “best friend” had already done exactly what you were hoping to do… What now? Primer is probably the most believable (possible) time manipulation we could do, if at all. At least until we get control of higher dimensions. Time Crimes is probably my favorite time manipulation film, due to the need of the actors to fill the lack of any SFX, and just the perfectly crafted story. It's a puzzle that is very satisfying in its conclusion.

I highly recommend Project Dechentreiter if you love reading. It's a novella (short story) with smart time travel ideas. The whole concept of the story mixed with cosmic horror is very cool. My favorite time travel movie hands down is Predestination. Its not overly complicated, well executed and coherent within its own rules. No schmaltz, no artsy fartsy bullshit, no unnecessary technobabble, just a well acted movie with great story and a nice twist.

For sheer charm I recommend the anime The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and obscure indie movie The Endless also for quirky originality watch Millenium - people from the future snatch passengers from doomed plane crashes in the present to save the future

I think the Sound of Thunder should be on the list. Not the greatest adaptation of Ray Bradbury's short story but explores it well of "Time Safari" of hunting real dinosaurs in the past while trying not to alter the future. So far this has the most risk of the butterfly effect.

Great selection! In my opinion, Los Cronocrímenes was one of the most interesting (and underrated/unknown) movies filmed in last decade Spanish cinema. There are not too many Sci-fi films around here but this one was pretty surprising.

You left out: Deja Vu 2006 Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel 2009 and honorable mentions: Stargate SG1 Season 4 Episode 6, 16 - Window of Opportunity, 2010 Season 5 Episode 10 - 2001 and Star Trek Voyager Season 7 Episodes 11, 25 and 26, Shattered and Endgame Oh, and Time Cop 1994... It's the only Van Damme movie I ever watched more than once, Universal Soldier being the only other Van Damme movie I've ever even watched.

You nailed it! ...except **SPOILERS** "Predestination" - if you have to exist in order for you to exist, then it can't happen, and obvious female with masculine makeup trying to lower her voice and have sex with her/himself that they don't recognize, AND change facial, body and vocal structure to look like Ethan Hawke...uh, no.; Then "Timecrimes" - if you have to time travel in order to get yourself to time travel, then no, that's not how it works. Lastly, haven't seen "Retroactive", so...well, probably won't

I just finished watching Predestination, it’s still in the player now. Even with the obvious budget constraints, it’s a “WOW!” movie. I’ll probably spend part of the day considering the plot and the holes from it but I can say I really enjoyed it. Yes, add it to your collection.

*LOVE* Timecrimes. Great movie. Always makes me think of Triangle, which is another good movie that _sort of_ has time travel. I was trying to get through all the time loop movies I could find and that has evolved into watching every movie with time travel or time manipulation of any type, and there are some great movies that I'd never known about before undertaking this. i will say Mr. nobody is pretty good film in this genre , not really time travel but more of an amazingly put together philosophy with a beautiful soundtrack and as you said for predestination "if you like getting confused" then yeah Mr. nobody is worth it again a pretty good list :)

Predestination is great! I can see why Looper didn't exactly make it on here, but I'd suggest Synchronicity. It's not widely known but definitely has it's cool twist on time travel.

Primer made by an inexperienced movie maker...no kidding. That film is an embodiment of a complicated narrative done for sake of having a complicated narrative. It's as if you wanted to formulate an idea in the most convoluted way possible, without even knowing what the idea was in first place. It's like watching Trump explain time travel.

Actually, Dune & sequels is on a related theme, the ability to affect the future. In the case of Paul Atreides, he controls the future by seeing his effect on it and behaving so that the dominoes fall to produce the outcome he wants. If can talk about books that should be brought to the screen, C. J. Cherryh's Morgain chronicles also addresses the perils of time paradox, a series of which I would dearly love to see a film version.

One thing that i cant stop thinking about is about how God can see the future and tell in great detail how things will happen. This is the thought that i can't shake, so if God can see the future, including the end of the world and also foretell about how his coming will be, how people will react. Given this great detail does this means that we are a pre-programmed world? How can God see the future and tell how bad things will be especially "for the women who are pregnant, woe if it falls on winter", and "how people will run to hide but even the mountains will refuse them. So this means that God can see details of the future like a pre-recorded scene on a DVR or something. How can God see something that hasn't happened yet, and describe it in detail up to the words that people will say on various events? Is this life we live pre-recorded that God maybe can revisit? Here are other evidence that The God of the Bible traveled through time. When Adam and Eve sinned, God laid out the judgment and said to the snake which was satan, "the seed of the woman, who should crush the serpent's head", who is Christ. God saw the future and told about Christ's victory over satan. Then God actually traveled through time and came to live as Christ and accomplished what he said. And God left for us a detailed book called the Bible with a forecast of the end of the world, the Book of Revelation. I've been following on prophesies that Christ mentioned and many have indeed come to pass, some are really like "right on your face!" and some are difficult to track but if you do parlay with the worlds past historic incidents you surely will find many things that Christ said actually came to pass. The Bible is not just a book! If you are a sci fi time travel fan you should read the Bible, the only book that tell of the future that is not fiction.
