Haruna spins the star with the drum stick, sometimes...

This show Feb. 2020 was made into an album ""Five of a Kind". They had just released the album "Electric Pentagram" and were touring. I saw them on that tour. Third time overall I saw them. There's a keyboardist named Mao Yamamoto who's written/arranged a number of LB's songs including this one and I saw him at an instrumental gig with Saki of Nemophila not long ago. And some years ago I saw Saki's old band Mary's Blood performing with Haruna's (and Saki's) old band Destrose. I guess that completes some sort of circle.

Good reaction. My favorite band. One of the big “E” songs. Edge of the world”, “Epilogue” and “empty daydream”. The starcymbals are nor real cymbals but just for show. They only spin. Miyako is the genius of the band and does not much smiling during concerts. But she smiles a lot on her own KZbin channel “Miyako Official Channel”. Lots of nice videos there to watch. Thanks for this reaction. Subscribed. 🐺🤘

Bands write songs, Lovebites writes masterpieces. Bands today aren't performing like this, imho. Miyako shows her emotion through her guitar playing. The most headbanging you'll see from her is Shadowmaker live '21 or Wacken '18. And maybe Above the Black Sea live Wacken '18. Haruna spins the stars to start the Shadowmaker MV. Mostly there for looks and was her signature look in her former band Destrose, Miho and her left and formed Lovebites. 🤘

Haruna's cymbals are for show. She spins them at the beginning of some songs. I could care less about understanding her when she's singing. Pet peeve regarding Asami's vocals (not directed at you, in general because I hear it a lot): Why don't people use that complaint for Babymetal (as an example). I don't understand a word they say, yet the lack of understanding never gets brought up. Just because Asami sings in English doesn't mean you'll understand every word. I know many metal vocalists, male and female, and English, where I don't understand everything I'm hearing. One of the most famous K-Pop bands ever, Blackpink, mixes Korean and English, and no one complains. I just feel that sometimes Asami takes a little too much "criticism" (or just commenting) about understanding her. That's what reading lyrics is for, and as you alluded to, vocals are an instrument first - as long as it sounds good. I enjoy your honest reactions.

Because when BM does a song in English, the English is perfect, Mayu from Nemophila has pleasant English pronounciation too, despite not speaking English, she most likely had someone coach her on pronounciation of English lines until she got them right and Asami should do that too.
@mmcpa Жыл бұрын
@@bury0777 Don't agree with your analogy. Because this person is "perfect", everyone should be? Tell that to American singers you can't understand. They should get the same grief then. And there's plenty of them.
@bury0777 Жыл бұрын
We are all here because we still enjoy Lovebites despite this shortcoming, so clearly she didn't had to be perfect for us to enjoy Lovebites. But they choose to sing in English for an international appeal and put so much work into their beautiful music, that it's kind of weird to not spent few hours for each song with an English coach to get the pronunciation correct, I think it'd be well worth the effort. She notoriously miss, or sings wrong syllables and with faster songs it's hard to understand most of the lyrics. I've seen few new to Lovebites reactors who listened to a whole song and missed it was in English.
@alekhidell Жыл бұрын
There is more than one reason why Asami’s vocals can be difficult to follow. Her syntax is not that of a native English speaker. She uses words in a way that a native English person would never consider. The vast majority of her “difficult to understand” lyrics are because the words she uses don’t follow the “accepted” flow. Therefore you can’t second guess them. Not only that, and I don’t know why it’s the case (but neither do I care) Lovebites lyrics have a lot of WPM… words per minute. Add in the heavy accent and she can be difficult to follow. But having listened to music of all types for half a century I can assure you that bands who have English speaking singers often have lines that for years I thought I heard clearly, only to learn that one or two key words are not what I thought. The bottom line is that Lovebites are happy that Asami is their vocalist. Miyako is on record twice as saying that she had misgivings about playing in a metal band, but it was Asami’s vocals that made her think that she just had to write music for her. Anyone who has any issues at all with Asami’s performance is missing the point entirely.
@GarageYears Жыл бұрын
I think there’s one Band-Maid song that is all in English… and there’s plenty where the 😂English that is there is hard to understand. Do I care? Nope. Not AT ALL. I give Asami huge props for singing in a foreign language. I don’t need perfect English - this is music… art… her expression and emotion flows, and that’s all that matters.

Stars are for show, she sometimes spins one of them with a tip of a stick, she does it very rarely during a show, but there is a shot of her doing it in the beginning of most of their music videos. In particular, Glory to the World, Shadowmaker ( my favourite ) and Judgement Day feature it.

Another Great Reaction Jeremy. I'm glad you are starting to discover the non-Thrash side of these incredibly talented ladies. The Star cymbals have been Haruna's 'trademark' as a drummer since she was 20 years old in the band Destrose (with Miho). She never hits them, but the one in front of the kit SPINS, and she often spins it, especially at the beginning of songs. Asami often spins it during songs too, and I've also seen Miho spin it. I suggest you take a step into the present, and React to Judgement Day, the Title Track of their new album they released in February - with the New Bassist, 20yo phenom Fami. Some other fun moments with Miyako are a special scene in the live performance of Spellbound, one at the end of the solo-section of the live performance of We the United from 2020 and the hug close to the end of the live performance of Holy War from 2021. This is another masterpiece by amazing Lovebites; an uplifting song with a powerful message. I just love Asami’s vocals. As a non native English speaker, I don’t have any problem with Asami’s English pronunciation. It looks like a dead end: some complain that they don’t understand when non English speakers do a great effort to sing in this language and others complain when singers sing in a language other than English. This seems arrogant to me.

I totally agree with you. I commend people who can sing in multiple languages! I myself have performed a rap song I wrote all in German, live in Zurich, so I know what it’s like performing in a 2nd language. I have no problem at all with any mispronunciation. In my experience, people can’t even pronounce words in their own language correctly sometimes. Lol.

As I was trying to learn some of the Japanese language, someone told me English has letters that form sounds that the Japanese language doesn't have. Examples are: "TH", "L", "R", and "V". So when Japanese people see these letters, they don't really know what to do with them. The Japanese language doesn't have these sounds. I sometimes hear them pronounce an "R" as a "D". Also: when you spell Japanese words and names with English letters, sometimes they will pronounce the "U", and sometimes they don't. I once heard Asami say Haruna's name, and it sounded like she said "HAD-NA", when we always say: "HAROONAH". If anyone knows more about this, please feel free to add your thoughts. I am always eager to learn more. I would never expect a Japanese person to speak perfect English. Can we speak perfect Japanese? Of course not. The goal is to understand each other. When it comes to Lovebites and the wolfpack... we understand each other perfectly.

It is of course possible to learn a second language and master it to be as fluent as a native speaker. But this is extremely difficult, especially when you have to learn new sounds. In Japanese "Haruna" is pronounced with the pitch-accent on the "ha". The "u" is often devoiced between two consonants but it and the associated consonant always count as a mora (syllable) and as a metrical beat in poetry, where it's usually clearly enunciated. The "r" in Japanese is basically an alveolar (back of the upper teeth ridge) tap and so as you say it might sometimes sound more like a "d" to English-speakers. Maybe in Asami's case her heavy vibrato distorts the vowel sounds and makes it more difficult to understand her at times. Su (BM), Saiki (B-M), Mayu (Nemo) sing with less vibrato (Su with very little if any) and even then it can be hard to understand their English lyrics. But then there are native English-speaking vocalists who are nearly incomprehensible in their own language.

Really cool, slightly progressive vibe song!! Beautiful beginning!! Miyako does go a little crazier rarely tho!! 😄They are def not the typical metal band, in many aspects and i think that is also part of their charm!! The star cymbals Haruna has are just cosmetic, it's something that has been with her even before Lovebites existed. She doesn't hit them as if she was playing a normal cymbal, what she does is spinning them for fun (the one in front of her) The other star cymbals in the back are also sometimes spun by the other members like Miho or Asami!! 🤘

LOVEBITES (Asami) insist on writing lyrics in English because they believe English rhymes best suit their sound. Consider the same lyrics written in Japanese and English. Even if the meaning of the lyrics is the same, when combined with the song... Musically, they are not the same. They actively choose to use English (=English rhymes) to complete their sounds. (Asami has stated this several times) As another example... BAND-MAID is based on Japanese and sings with lyrics that incorporate English phrases here and there. (Although there are songs like “influencer” that actively incorporate English) BAND-MAID is a band that uses Japanese (= Japanese rhyme) very well. I think that's one of the things that makes their sound so appealing and unique. If they sang with full English translations, the MAND-MAID sound might end up being something else (or mediocre). I don't think the choice of language for writing lyrics is a simple matter of whether the meaning is easy to hear or whether the accent is right. ---------- from Nippon *It is a sentence using Google translation. I hope I conveyed my intentions correctly.
