I also find that as I’m checking the SG on a daily basis, topping up the Airlock as required, a gentle 30 sec partial degas with a paddle at the same time helps considerably. It improves fermentation time and the final degas is quite a bit shorter. In these freezing winter times I’m brewing in my garage using a homemade temperature controlled fermentation chamber. Eliminates complaints from “Her Indoors” regards smells and mess too ☺️

So glad I found this video before I start my very first kit tonight. How big is the spoon of steriliser that you use?

I’ve done the degassing the same way for a few years now. Just a query, would it be better to first syphon off the wash first, at least most of it allowing some sediment to pass through, then degas almost clear wash so as to make the clearing more effective and leave less sediment at the final stage.
