Rod Stewart career spans A LONG TIME, and he's had so many hits, combined with his sexual presence for so many years, makes him a legend! A great song I'd like to recommend of his is titled "PEOPLE GET READY" with a phenomenal guitarist named JEFF BECK. The two worked together on and off through their careers, and this song is just great, showcasing Rod's vocals and Jeff's guitar playing. It came out in 1985, and to fully appreciate the context, you should watch the official video. Thank you RSR family for these fun trips down memory lane in the form of great music we share.

The title of Rod's Box Set retrospective was Storyteller, and to me, that sums up him up perfectly. There are fun songs like "Hot Legs" and songs like "The Killing of Georgie, Parts 1 & 2" that will break your heart, but at his best he's always telling an engaging story. "Young Turks" is a great example. BTW, the Box Set's full title is, "Storyteller - The Complete Anthology 1964-1990", just to let you know how long Rod has been setting the standard for excellence.

Yes and/but there has been another whole career worth of material since then. There's been the whole American Songbook era I think 5 albums and he released a boxed set of that on its own. Then about 10 over studio albums apart from the American Songbook. I really loved unplugged and seated. It was the first collection where he really really reimagined his old songs and they were wonderful in acoustic format. Of course a lot of them really were acoustic anyway...the old old countryish songs from when he first left the faces are perfect in an unplugged collection. My fav from that album is called cut across shorty. But he did great with having a party and also stay with me which were previously plugged IN. Since then he has also worked up the original vocals backed by a symphony orchestra too.

Five songs into his discography, you've gotten a great sense of his style. For your next one, you can go back to his 70s stuff ("You Wear It Well", "You're in My Heart", or "Ain't Love a B***h"), or you can explore more of his 80s tunes ("Passion", "Baby Jane", "Some Guys Have All the Luck"). My Rod Stewart Story: Was at his concert and at some point, during the concert Rod kicks an autographed soccer ball into the crowd. We had decent seats & at one point a young girl that had nosebleed tickets snuck into our row sitting one chair from me. I didn't care. The time comes, the ball is flying my direction & I jumped and put my hand up, stopping the ball, which dropped to the floor & before I could pick it up the girl next to me grabbed the ball and bolted. LOL I wonder if she still has it. 🥰

This song reminds me of the youth I lost out on, but at the same time I relish the memories I made in the military. When I got my first radio, this was literally the first song I heard in my bedroom...and the music transported me. In the movie 'Almost Famous' (2001) there is a quote that really encapsulates what happened to me, listening to Rod Stewart singing this song: "Music, you know, true music - not just rock n roll - it chooses you. It lives in your car or alone listening to your headphones, you know, with the vast scenic bridges and angelic choirs in your brain. It's a place apart from the vast, benign lap of America." - Rock Journalist and Critic Lester Bangs (played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman) Thanks, you two!
