@@RandomFandomDragon same! And it’s got a special memory for me. When my daughter was little, I had taken her to work with me one day. I let her listen to my headphones to keep her entertained because she loved music and she was listening to this album. When this song came on, she busted out singing it at the top of her little lungs and cracked everyone in the office up! It was so cute and every time I hear this song, I remember that! She’s 26 now!

The Chicks and Shania Twain were my introduction to my love of Country music back in the 90s. The Chicks have been controversial, speaking up about injustices in our country. Which makes me love them even more. The spoke up at a concert and got a lot of crap for it. They’ve written songs about it as well. Gaslighter and I’m Not Ready To Make Nice, how people were horrible to them afterward. They stood up for those who couldn’t, and I love them even more for it! The Chicks are badass and have amazing songs. Please do more of them!

The Chicks are the real deal! Such a talented group of musicians. Interesting, you mentioned Wide Open Spaces a couple of times. They actually have a song by that name. It would be a great one for you to react to! Similar theme/vibe as this song. The switch from The Dixie Chicks to The Chicks is attributed to the group wanting to distance themselves from a word (Dixie) that had been deeply connected with the Confederate-era South. There was never an official announcement from the group, but the rebranding came 2 weeks after another country group, Lady Antebellum, changed its name to Lady A. The Lady A change was accompanied by a social media statement in which Lady A said the country's recent attempts to reckon with racial justice issues (Black Lives Matter) had made the band members' eyes open wide to inequality. Antebellum was a word also associated with the Confederated- era South.

I have suggested a few times now that you react to their newest single, March March- PLEASE consider this one. It is SO moving (watch the video with it). Martie and Emily were part of the original members of the band (Laura Lynch and Robin Lynn Macy were also in the band) formed in the late '80s in Dallas. I saw them at a festival in Dallas in 1992 and they were out of this world amazing. I knew then they were going to make it big. They released a few albums on a local label, "Thank Heavens for Dale Evans", "Little Ole Cowgirl" and "Shouldn't a Told You That". (Their minor hit played on local Dallas radio was "She'll Find Better Things To Do", look it up on You Tube). Macy and Lynch left the band and was replaced by Natalie Maines. Their first major hit was "There's Your Trouble" from the album "Wide Open Spaces". They were no strangers to controversy. At a concert in London, in response to anti-Iraq war protests outside the hall, Natalie declared that she was ashamed that the President, (George W. Bush at the time) was from Texas. That was a big no-no to country music radio and fans. They were banned from airplay and their records were burned. Their other hits "You Were Mine", "Wide Open Spaces", "Sin Wagon", "Goodbye Earl", "Travelin' Soldier", among others.

This was a #1 hit for a reason. It is the perfect combination of lyrics, instruments, arrangement, and presentation. Ya gotta respect The Chicks... highly talented and not afraid to say what they think, which can be dangerous for women in country music. Although from Texas, they dropped "Dixie" from their name because the deep south has become MAGA south. Even before that, they publically spoke their mind against Little Bush and his Iraqi War, causing a firestorm among a ton of their fans!

I still call them “The Dixie Chicks”. They was probably the first music group/artist that was cancelled because of their opinion on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq after 9/11. It’s a shame because they was my favorite group. They dropped Dixie from their name because they was trying to make a comeback and didn’t want to get cancelled again. Like I said….. it’s a shame because of cancel culture that we lost great music. No telling how big they would be and how many more great songs they would have had. I will always be a fan of The Dixie Chicks.

They took a risk and faced the consequences. As a young Marine at the time, that was into country music, I really liked their "Wide Open Spaces Album." But they knew their target audience and alienated a lot of us. Hard to listen to someone that doesn't support what you are doing. It was their choice, and their right to do it. They seem fine with it, and I still think they were great musicians, and hearing these songs is still nice.

They didn’t deserve the cancel culture they received. They disliked Bush and his agenda, but not the men and women that were fighting his war. Overnight, country stations stopped playing their music and it hurt their path to superstardom. I’m still sad when I hear their music. I liked the Dixie in their name. I didn’t see it as confederate related. It refers to the southern states. They are Texas gals.

When it's country music it's a fiddle...LOL Fiddlleing is true Country an Western from way back. My Dad played Fiddle and banjo, my Mom played piano and 1 of my brothers played drums in a band in the 60's for true square dances, not the ones with the fancy dresses, the ones that was in the country on Saturday night at the dance halls. 20 miles from the nearest town. My 1st dance I learned was square dancing standing on my daddy's feet to learn the steps. That is true hillbilly country. Yes I am from the foothills of the mountains of SE Ohio and West Virginia and damned proud of it. I feel lucky to have been raised like that.

I think it's appropriate to call them The Chicks. They're a different band now, their music will never be the same. They abandoned the music that their fans loved for new jaded pop version of themselves. Purposely having done this they don't want to be associated with country music any longer. I think most of their fans reciprocate the feeling as Gaslighter their newest album under The Chicks name is by far the least selling of all their albums. This was a Dixie Chicks song but they are not that band anymore so they should be called by their new name The Chicks.

My all time favorite of theirs. Second is "Goodbye Earl", third is "Not Ready to Make Nice"... that's subject to change depending on what mood I'm in at the time... lol... can't forget "Wide Open Spaces" though... when Natalie's voice does that jump on the line "She said, "It didn't seem like that long ago"... wow. "You Were Mine" will break your heart every time too. Had to edit twice.... if you want some kick butt country girl groups, I HIGHLY recommend going in the 80s for Wild Rose or the Forester Sisters... great harmonies from both groups. For Wild Rose I'd suggest "Breaking New Ground"... for the Forester Sisters, "I Fell in Love Again Last Night"... Last edit I promise... Wild Rose's "Breaking New Ground" is sometimes hard to find on here so here ya go: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6eZlayYnbGSlas

@@TheBlindTrucker You're preaching to the choir. They called out George Bush for bringing us into Iraq. We never had any business there the second time around. Afghanistan was hiding Bin Laden.
