Expensive o, micro locs is luxury at this point. I’ve pushed my reties to 8-9 weeks. After a retie I rock my locs for 2-3 weeks then make knotless braids and rock that for another 4-5 weeks cause I didn’t come to this life to be retieing hair 🙈

I installed my own microlocs starting off with 2 strand twists. 7 years down the line I retighten my locs [at the root] on average once every 5-6 weeks it takes about 1.5/2 hours. If i leave it longer than that it takes too long for my patience. My hair is thriving with the locs, best thing I've done for my hair. And i can still wear my wigs if i fancy a change.

@@MysticalPreshXO I count them once a year [yeh I know! 😌]. I've just done it for this year so can confidently say I have 363 locs. As long as you don't leave it too long between retightening it really doesn't take too much time.

I definitely think you should be willing to learn how to do your own reties and be prepared to do them yourself if you get microlocs. The pool and availability of high quality locitcians is very limited. If a scheduling conflict occurs you will be in a tight spot. My philosophy is if a novice is going to do my hair that novice will be me.🤣 In most places there is no licensing for a locitcian i.e. no standard of uniform practice. Take what you are told with a grain of salt and in light of what you know about your own hair.
@Ifeyinwa2 жыл бұрын
Very sound advice and so many people choose to do their own reties for this very reason. Although I’m honest enough with myself to know that’s not an option for me. I have no desire to do my own reties and If I had no alternative I would actually just pick another hairstyle.

I must say, microlocs have been the most freeing for me as far as styling. I used to think it was limiting as well, but protective styles are taxing, and straight hair is boring to me 🤣 so I never saw myself wanting to go back to all that. I always tell people if you get to a point where you no longer want to switch things up, then go ahead and get locked up.
@Loveit45 Жыл бұрын
i always wore weave or whatever when i had loose hair so im not worried about micro locs limiting either.

No literally, I haven’t straightened my hair since I was a kid, haven’t worn box braids or did my hair in like half a year, always keep my hair in straight backs and put my head wrap on. I think it’s time okay cuz weave honestly makes my head itch and I already planned on never putting weave n my hair again😩
@omnidiscord6 ай бұрын
i’m definitely not at the point where i don’t want to switch things up, but i still decided it was worth it to lock up. in my opinion, the only three styles you really CANNOT achieve with microlocs are like a slick pony, fulani-type braids, and a sew-in. anything other than that i’m still doing on my hair! box braids, twists, faux locs, and wigs satisfy my desire to switch it up plenty! i agree, my own hair straightened was boring me, if i want straight hair i’d much rather a wig regardless, so i’m still completely pleased with my options

There’s so much misinformation on locs in general because there’s no studies or data on the process!!! I’m working on that now but it’ll take a while before it’s properly regulated like other cosmetology specialties. Best to find a loctician that will create a custom regimen for your specific hair and scalp, instead of generalizing locs like everyone’s hair is the same. That’s what’s worked for me and my clients. And it’s working REALLY WELL. 😇

Beautiful commentary on SL & Micro Locs😊 But please be careful out here when it comes to your SL , everyone is not out here for your good on your hair periodT. I let a girl In Hayward CA, name Kristin do my Sisterlock install- 🤦🏽♀️ she was awful to say the least and very unprofessional. I went to her for a couple of more months, but my gut told me to stop going to her. She did not know what she was doing. She did not do the Sisterlocs grid- she messed up my hair- and had the nerve to get upset because I stopped tipping her. In the meantime I was looking for a new sister Loctician ….and I actually reported her to Sisterlock foundation . I have a new lady now , in San Leandro California. She is amazing ! Some of these folks out here do not want to take care of your hair. They only want the money. And her attitude was definitely from the devil.. If you feel it in your gut, please do your research. Hear Hear, the options are soooooo limiting and annoying. I think because the locticians know they are high in demand, they are so laid back.

You are a very beautiful woman! And your accent is just on point! None of that fake British accent most Africans have in UK. Can you share your Lagos salon which installed your locks? I am considering a redo of my locks but cant stomach another $1000 I spent on my installation. I self maintain - most loctitians charge a lot however not worth much, messed up my hair
@Ifeyinwa2 жыл бұрын
Aww thanks but why do you think their British accents are fake? They could have been raised here or lived here for a long time. I have a lot of African family and friends that have British accents and I can assure you their accent aren’t fake lol 😭 and I installed my hair with Enibraids - I’ve linked their Instagram in the description box

I’m in the US. My install was 2100 😮

@@Ifeyinwa AND reties are 170 for the 1st 3 hours and $80 an hour after that. And if I wait to long between I will get an over growth charge of another $80

Does anyone have experience with postpartum shedding while having microlocs? I want to have mine installed before i have my baby but wondering if i should wait a bit to see if i get any shedding and maybe work on that first before gettin them done...?? Does it matter..🤷🏾♀️

What company did your locs in Lagos please?
@7o7Dsy Жыл бұрын
I guess because I love in rural South that 30 mins to hours sounds normal. They told me $350 for installation and that only covers the first 3 inches then it's $35 or more per inch afterwards.

It’s not permanent ! I saw a great video a girl just 2 strand twisted them together and that like halved the amount. Using the 2 strand method to create a larger loc!
@Ifeyinwa7 ай бұрын
Hey I think you missed my point . Iwas about taking your locs out, not transforming microlocs to bigger locs.

Not a good idea to comb out the locs? But you have plenty of exemple of women Who combed their locs ans didn't get that Much damage. I did twice and no, i did not get any damage, shedding hair is normal, we all Shed hair, so it's not alarming to see it. I spend years doing research on the subject and talked to a lot of loctitians. I love and agree with everything else tho. Ans love the hair btw. Your crown is gorgeous

Good info! I am planning to get microlocs and its honestly microloc it or cut it off at this point. Im just going to get a wig to use during the first uear and do box braids occasionally.
@Ifeyinwa Жыл бұрын
Definitely check with your loctician before getting box braids, it’s not advisable until your locs are mature.
