On January 9th, 2024, shortly after 4pm, Weld County Dispatch Center received a fire alarm activation at the AmericInn Hotel located off Highway 392 and I25. Windsor/Severance Fire Protection District arrived on scene and observed a male wearing a bullet proof vest and carrying a firearm. The fire department asked for police assistance and went into the hotel to investigate the alarm.
Windsor Police arrived on scene shortly after and was told by staff, the male the fire department called about, was also the male who pulled the fire alarm. Officers attempted to contact the male, who was later identified as Damian Jackson. Mr. Jackson ran to the fire truck, climbed on top and refused to come down. Shortly after, the suspect and officers exchanged gunfire in the presence of hotel patrons and staff. Additional resources from both Weld and Larimer County arrived on scene quickly.
Mr. Jackson surrendered and was taken into custody without injury. Mr. Jackson is from Colorado Springs and was in possession of multiple firearms, ammunition, and ballistic vests.
Mr. Jackson is currently being held at the Larimer County Jail on a $500,000 dollar cash only bond and booked on the following charges:
C.R.S. 18-3-102(1)(a) - Attempted Murder in the First Degree, a class 2 Felony; (3 counts).
C.R.S. 18-3-102(1)(d) - Attempted Murder- Extreme Indifference, a class 2 Felony; (2 counts).
C.R.S. 18-3-206 - Felony Menacing, a class 5 Felony; (5 counts).
C.R.S. 18-3-202(1)(e) - First Degree Assault-Threaten Peace Officer with a weapon, a class 3 Felony; (3 counts).
C.R.S. 18-8-111(1)(a)(I)(A) - False Report- Fire Emergency, a class 2 Misdemeanor.
C.R.S. 18-8-104 - Obstructing a Peace Officer/Fire Fighter/EMT, a class 2 Misdemeanor.
C.R.S. 18-8-103 - Resisting Arrest, a class 2 Misdemeanor.
C.R.S. 18-8-208 - Reckless Endangerment, a class 2 Misdemeanor.
C.R.S. 18-1.3-406(2)(a)(I)(A) - Violent Crime-Used Weapon, Sentence Enhancer; (5 counts)

The charges are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.
