Grosso discusses the history of the real lords of Dogtown!

I remember some dude in Venice screaming he broke his ankle. He was doing a sweet wall ride and ate shit. I was with my parents around 83 and no one even helped him. He had to drag himself. TRUE STORY.

Some of my favorite videos are the old school Dogtown documentary and Hosoi's Rising son. But it's just one video. So cool watching these lover letters. It's like a mini doc every month. But please! The special ones (like this) need to be longer.

This topic needs a full documentary. The Made in Venice film was cool, but this group of DTS would be insane.

As stated, DT "2.0"(being the years from 1987 onwards) never got the recognition it deserved. They just didn't do those high gloss videos or had your mom's favourite son in law on their team, like Powell Peralta. The didn't board the new wave super star train like Vision. They didn't have Jim Phillips on graphics, having Santa Cruz products sell twice or more units, than possible without him. They were, are, and will always be remembered for purest skateboarding. They brought us street skating, giving Natas the initial opportunities for his art, supporting skaters that wouldn't participate in main stream "skateparking", providing Eric Dressen a rebirth. And they are still with us and will hopefully be there for many years from now on.

Goes way back. Hardcore rebellious type surfers in the late 50s/60s were known for being violent and anti-social they had a punk rock attitude way before there was even music genre that fit their crazy mentality. They were like outlaw bikers at the time. They called themselves "surf nazis" and wore iron crosses to shock everyone and keep people away but it was never a political/racial thing. In the mid 60s Ed Roth sold iron crosses that depicted a surfer in the middle. Even goes back to early skating because he marketed them as "sidewalk surfer service medals" had ads with kids holding skateboards wearing rat fink german helmets and giving salutes. It was very apart of dogtowns "bad boy" image since the beginning. Watch the dog town documentary and notice the pictures of the surfboards that Jeff ho designed covered in swastikas with all sorts of old school 70s flare. Look up the old dog town articles from the 70s there's that one with the cholo looking dude holding a skateboard and on the ground you see the infamous dog town cross surrounded by swastikas. Look closely at the "locals only go home" and you can see swastikas on the wall. Look the hand drawn wes humpston dog town boards with sun wheel swastikas on them. He said they were meant to be seen as a sun worshiping symbol. Jay Adams coined the term skate nazi in an interview during the 70s when they asked what's up with him and other dogtown guys putting swastikas on their boards/equipment. He said it was a traditional ode to the original surf nazis a decade earlier and not meant to be seen as a political/racial trip. There was an old suicidal tendencies sharpie shirt at skate lab that read "suicidal skate nazi". Salba has a board that reads "SS-Skate Nazi" from the early 80s. In the mid 80s there was a dogtown ad in thrasher that depicted the cross surrounded by totenkopfs. Watch salbas speed freaks part and notice he's wearing a swastika tshirt at the beginning. Look at photos/videos of the famous Venice wall and notice the swastika behind it. When they made that movie "surf nazis must die" about a surfer gang of neo nazis that kill a black guy they got it all fucked up. Jay Adams has a swastika tattoo in the the form of two skateboards and under it it reads "100 percent skateboarder" he even unapologetically released a bunch of limited edition skate nazi decks in the early 2000s.
