Great video guys, thank you very much. There has been a heap of discussion in some Facebook groups about GVM/GCM upgrades for Landcruiser 300s and other 4x4s, whether it is for towing caravans, or building a go-anywhere self-contained vehicle. This is an extremely important subject matter because of the legalities should a person be involved in an accident, and as you have stated, whether insurance covers their vehicle. There are also a lot of so-called 'know-it-alls' (non-professionals) in these Facebook groups offering incorrect advice to those of us with less knowledge of what we should/shouldn't do, without knowing the purpose of the proposed upgrade - each owner's situation is different.

If the wheel base is extended on this vehicle the SSM will be void. Unless lovells has test data at for the new wheel base.

Hi Mark, that comment is correct. With SSM (Second Stage Manufacture) Approvals a vehicle can have as many of these as required. When the vehicle was here, and the video was done, those are the specs that vehicle had. When that vehicle has undergone the chop - if the wheelbase remains as per O.E (original equipment) the GCM will remain at the 7700KGS . If the vehicle has had the chassis extended - the GCM will be void unless the Second Stage Manufacturer extending the chassis has carried out the testing with Lovells to have the GCM reinstated.

We would have to check what the Western Australia jurisdiction rules are - we will get back to you.

@@cathbp4089 we haven't had much luck finding out the rules for WA. Perhaps you could contact someone directly there.

In WA you can only upgrade the GVM if you do it after registration - GCM cannot be changed. Also if the vehicle is ever registered in another state (other than WA later), the GVM upgrade is lost. But you can drive it in other states with the higher GVM provided it's still registered in WA. I'd recommend Ape Suspensions (Wangara).

Why pay a huge amount of money for a vehicle that supposedly needs a GVM/GCM from new How about buying a vehicle fit for purpose from the start
@TUFFAUSTRALIA Жыл бұрын
Hi there, appreciate your comment. In Australia, most vehicles aren't initially built to handle heavy loads and towing capacities, necessitating GVM/GCM upgrades. Unfortunately, it's rare to find a vehicle perfectly suited for these tasks from the start. The additional investment in upgrades ensures safety and performance when carrying heavier loads.
