It might not apply to you at all but maybe it can help some. I took a BB spacer from drive side and put it on non drive side, and it completely eliminated any chain dropping from largest cog to lower when back pedaling. It's not that dropping is a problem under normal circumstances, I don't backpedal that much but it's always nice to eliminate another cause of drivetrain malfunction :)

I believe the backpedal issue is either dependant on your bike and chain line or setup. All the specialized and Santa Cruz bikes at my shop with 52 backpedal forever

You forgot to mention the clutch tention. It's significantly stronger on the new GX compared to the old one. It reduces chain slap and keeps your chain from jumping cogs while hitting big jumps and decending chunky turrain. 👍

I saw this guy fashion a washer that keeps the rear mech from from moving around. Allowing just the lower arm. However he was running a smaller cassette. His bike was always dead silent. No mech clanging around. He was a prod dev for a big brand.

TRPs DH rear derailleur has a lock that does that, but TBH with a clutch rear derailleur you have to ride REALLY hard on really rought terrain for the RD to rotate around that pivot point. Chain slap mostly comes from the cage rotating forward and the chain losing tension.

I have the Eagle NX and had the same dropping chain while pedaling backwards problem on the largest cog due to my chain line being too far off to the right so I removed the spacers on the right crank in the BB and adjusted it over to the left more. No more chain dropping. It's an old bike. But chain lines are important when it comes to that backwards pedaling chain drop problem. Cool vid. Maybe I'll upgrade to the 10-52 someday. For now, just using a 1x12 is a blast compared to my old 3x9. I'm cool with 11-50 at the moment.

I am updating my NX to GX, which includes a new wheel & hub and new cassette. I have been very happy with my SRAM 1x12 with 50t. I have been reading and watching reviews and see very few comparing the 10-50 vs the 10-52 and I not found a definitive answer of whether I should stay with 10-50 or move to 10-52. Do you or others have an opinion?

Hi LMTB, my 2022 Reign E+2 came with is unit installed with an NX cassette, I'm running a GX chain. For some reason new bikes don't come with the B-tension adjustment tool, what's up with that? I've got 1300kms of riding in sloppy PNW conditions on this setup with a X-Sync 2. 36tooth chainring. I'd say I'm impressed with this systems performance but it's requires constant attention and and for some time hasn't been "smooth". It all starts with the B-tension adjustment screw, mine bent at around 200kms. This derailleur is tough mine is scraped up but it still gets the job done. I did clean the mud out of the jocky wheels like you've shown. There way more than 3mm of play in the cage bolt I'd say 7-10. It doesn't like coming down from the 50 it's a 4 second delay at this point but I don't use the 50 often. Overall I'd give it 7.5- 8 rating

I upgraded my old shredder GX drivetrain to X01 except for the cranks. Using the new X01 derailleur and cassette with shifter - quite happy with it but yes, back pedaling round the 50 or high cog (I went with older 10 - 50 cassette), the chain can get jammed up. Not a problem lower down. Just something to be careful of.

@@papacost96 This is exactly what I did! When my new Commencal Meta arrived with NX (GX crank) I immediately switched out/upgraded Derailleur, chain, and shifter to GX. She shifts beautifully! *I have watched a number of videos on upgrades and called/consulted SRAM who told me to DO IT!!! You do not need to change cassette, wheel or hub!!!

e13 just updated their 11spd and 12spd cassettes it might be better to use those now. They have better weight and more range also 11spd (9-46) is compatibile with older shimano which is cheaper now

I just bought a brand new set of the sram eagle x01 lunar 520% and have the same issue with the backpedaling causing chain to drop. do you know a fix for that so it stops dropping?

I have a lunar derailleur and an "old" cassette. Using the b-gap tool I can't get it to run without a slight slipping feel on the 2 smallest cogs. Idk if I have to get the old b-gap tool or if they just aren't as compatible as they claim? It can only be felt when cranking hard, so seems perfect on the stand.

Awesome intro! The SRAM derailleur worries me. I use a OneUP oval chainring up front and from your previous videos, have seen it's negative effects on the clutch. Since SRAM's clutch is non serviceable and always on unlike Shimano, wouldn't this cause problems down the line? Also, would the XT M8100 SGS RD be compatible with 10-52? I currently use that RD with an NX 11-50T with no issues.

Only if the width of the cassette is close to sram and shimano. I did a similar setup to yours, but with an 11s sram cassette, xt 11s shifter, and eagle derailleur. It worked perfectly once I had the optimal chain length.

@@wally4997 Yes. I used 12s derailleur with an 11s shifter and cassette, and it worked great. You'll need it to be able to get to the 50 tooth cog on that Garbaruk cassette. 11s derailleurs are too small.

hi there ive been watching your videos on the new sram gx 12speed 10/52 cassett and derallier ! its interesting that old derallier works with new cassett as i want to do the same. ive only just recently purchased gx 10/50 deralallier as the old one was worne out but now its time to replace the old cassett and i would like to go 10/52. problem here in Australia is we cant get new derallier but can get the cassett plus after just getting new derallier i dont realy want to buy a new one. so you recon the old one works fine with new cassett?

I will not use the 52 cassette because too much jump!!! There is already enough of a "clunk" with the normal cassette jump and I do the creep uphill just fine with the 50t. They should have redesigned the steps for the whole thing.

10-50 or 10-52 is irrelevant. What Sram needs to make is a 10-44 cassette, for gravel.

10-52t is completely pointless for me and my riding here in the uk. 11-46t on my xtr 11speed works fine and even then I don’t use the 40, 46t gears that often.
