For those of us who don’t race, what will be the main benefit of shifting under load? Lazy shifting?
@FanatikBikeCo Жыл бұрын
Hahaha, in my opinion, yes. You definitely don't have to think as much about what's happening down there. With the electric stuff (AXS as well) there's no sensory feedback from the cable through the shifter about what is happening at the cassette, so it is harder to get good shifts. This only makes sense on a complete IMHO too expensive. The only benefit is shifting under load which no one cares about except XC racers. The climbs here are so steep i dont shift a lot from lowest to hardest and the other way around at the top and bottom of the trail. The only thing i care about is the chain staying on. I break the stuff regularly and a full gx derailleur is cheaper than any replacement part on the transmission so it absolutely makes no sense for Enduro riding IMHO. The old mechanical and axs stuff is good enough. I love that they bring this new stuff out because it makes the old XO1 stuff so cheap. Now i can get a XO1 derailleur for 159 EUR and a gx for 88 EUR and a XO1 cassette for 248 because. My only fear is that they discontinue the GX mechanical.

@@FanatikBikeCo yes seems right due to the differences in shift ramps from the road to mountain cassettes. And basically saying you didn't test real world impacts for 'video entertainment' doesn't really cut it for a review & test video! I guess it's good you admitted (after the fact) the impact testing was purely for entertainment (and obviously garnering sales!) & not a serious review video. what I want to know is how bad/well this works with a shimano cassette and chain.
@MTB_CRZY Жыл бұрын
My guess is horribly. Chain dimensions of the links and the cassette ramps are totally different. Both companies are now using similar technology and ideas to achieve the shifting while under load.
@TeamCykelhold Жыл бұрын
@@MTB_CRZY i found out it would work perfectly fine if not for the 3mm offset difference on the new ttype and the artificial limitation of less micro adjust than axs to make it incompatible on purpose. Oh well. No money to sram from me.

Just space the derailleur pulleys 2mm inwards and you're good to go.
@Nwrig004 Жыл бұрын
The problem is the majority frames can’t run T-Type. So the industry has presented a problem either the masses buy a new bike or they slowly wait for manufactures to adopt UDH design. I suspect Shimano isn’t ready for UDH or their version isn’t ready. If I could convert my 2023 Polygon T8 to UDH I would and I suspect thousands others would too!

@FanatikBikeCo Жыл бұрын
Hi Brooks, sorry to hear that, that's frustrating. We don't have the GX cages in yet, but if you decide to keep using the derailleur, it might be worth trying the GX cage. With the steel back plate and no cut-out in the front plate, I suspect it's stronger. If you just need to replace it asap, we have the X0 (and XX) ones in stock: www.fanatikbike.com/products/sram-x0-transmission-t-type-rear-derailleur-cage-assy-kit - Dan P.

Test rode it today… was pretty under whelming, shifting is way slower than expecting and under load shifting is no where near as refined as Shimano. But I look forward to testing the cable version when released.
@or-ian6973 Жыл бұрын
I really don’t think there will be. The shifting comes from the software, and does the crash safety features. Seems like most of the advantages would be lost going to a direct mount mechanical derailleur.

it's too big, doesn't matter if you can stand on it (rear mech), after few months of riding it'll be destroyed I guess. exactly what's happening with GX AXS rear mech. I've upgraded my rear mech to XT 11s and it works great now
@siriosstar478911 ай бұрын
Wireless derailleurs are bike industry hair splitting when it comes to the term 'upgrade'. when considering the overall effectiveness and efficiency of both wireless and cable systems the difference is negligible . it's like the difference between cloth seats and leather in a car . both will perform well but one will cost waay more due to the coolness factor. Of course when someone pays much more because of they are enamored with prestige , they will argue endlessly , searching for even the minutest difference to justify their purchase . It's fine to "upgrade " if you can afford it but dont fool yourself into believing it's that much better . It ain't !

@brandonb6164 Жыл бұрын
You most certainly did NOT hit the derailleur with the equivalent of a hYpErSoNIC BasEBaLL. Momentum and kinetic energy are not interchangeable terms.
@FanatikBikeCo Жыл бұрын
But it would have been correct to say we smashed it with the equivalent momentum of a hypersonic baseball, yes? Do you say that because the implication was that it was that it was the same amount of energy as a hypersonic baseball? - Dan P.
@brandonb6164 Жыл бұрын
@@FanatikBikeCo I mean, yea it’s equally useless as saying it could withstand the momentum of a cruise ship traveling at something like 0.00001 m/s. The impact strength of a part is not at all represented by the change in momentum it can withstand. The issue is due to force being equivalent to the time rate of change of momentum. In the case of hitting it with a hypersonic baseball, the impact duration is so extremely fast that the force is enormous. In the laughable counter example, the impact with a barely moving cruise ship would take an eternity allowing for a low impact force across a long duration. Please see the Smarter Every Day KZbin channel to see the immense destruction of a 1000mph baseball. Fanatik is one of my favorite biking retailers, I just don’t like the massively misunderstood physics. I wouldn't comment if it wasn't egregious. The AXS derailleur is awesome, it doesn't need the extreme exaggeration, even 134 mph baseball would destroy it, to sell it to many riders.

Calling a coating expensive is pretty funny. These "coatings" like hard anodize, anodize, TiN, electrolitic, electroless, DLC, Kashima coat... whatever.... there should be nearly 0 price difference between any of the coatings. One might be $100, and one might be $200 (as an extreme example) but companies that do surface treatments charge for BATCHES of... 100... 1000 or more? whatever. So $200/100 parts = $2 dollars they paid for that "coating" per part. If their batch was 1000 parts (which is a tiny batch, they paid 20cents!) Just because its desirable and people pay extra for SHINY is all it is. Now if you want to have 1 done... its full price but that is never the case with mass prod. parts.

Yup... I hit the derailleur arm on a rock and it broke very quickly. Back to Shimano XTR as it's equally as durable. When you brake your derailleur you brake it at the cage and never at the body. So why make the body beefier and leave the arm as weak as before (and more more expensive)? Also, warranty wouldn't know about such things (and yes, there are already more broken cages out there than I can count) because people just have to buy a new one and cannot file a warranty claim on such occasions. Yes, you do have scuffs on the derailleur cage but it never brakes either on the old derailleurs. It's the cage that's the weakest point and also, sometimes you hit the cage and the dropout bends. Get a new one for 15$ and you're good to go. This is just false claims. The transmission isn't more durable, just way more expensive.
