Late to the party here in July 2022, but still wanted to thank you for your skill/knowledge, and information in this video. I just purchased a 2012 Carbon Scott Spark 10. The previous owner had replace the 2x10 with 1x11, using this e*Thirteen cassette. The chain was worn out, the 3 aluminum gears were worn out, as were their shifting ramps, the 46T was bent, and the derailleur was bent. I replaced the 3 aluminum gears, the chain, straightened the derailleur, and installed a new DUB BB and crankset, with a direct mount 30T AB oval chainring that has 6mm offset to center the chain line. I also replaced the shift cable. It was very tough to get the shifting dialed in, across the entire cassette, and the chain jump on back pedaling, was also frustrating. So glad I just found your video!! Edit: I should mention that I have 4 bikes that have been converted to 1x11. All shift beautifully, no back pedal issues, chain runs quiet, and they were easy to adjust the shifting on. All have 30T AB ovals. This particular bike, with the e*thirteen TRS is the only bike with issues, and the only one where I had to bias the shifting adjustment towards the larger sprockets, and leave the smallest one slightly clicking, and somewhat slower to shift into. Very frustrating. Had I done my research when I first picked up the bike a few weeks ago, I would have simply purchased a new cassette from SRAM. I had no idea about the quality issues with this e*Thirteen TRS cassette. My only experience with e*Thirteen has been with their outstanding "Plus" aluminum flat pedals, and their carbon chain ring protectors. Thank you!!

No issues using the GS short cage derailleur? On their website, e*thirteen recommends the longer cage SGS for improved shifting, but according to Shimano the GS has a capacity of 37t, which should be enough for the 9-46 cassette (46-9=37). I am about to convert my 2x10 to a 1x11 and will obviously need a new derailleur also. I was always under the impression that shorter cage derailleurs actually shift better, and longer cages are only needed to manage more chain slack. Just wondering why e*thirteen recommends the longer cage...
@MattPayne16 жыл бұрын
Huh, never thought of that. I have a slight back pedal issue with the e13 and the largest cog. Though I blamed it on the chainline. moved a thin bb space from the right side to the left side and it solved the back pedal issue for me. Wish this worked for me with the newly installed Eagle chain and eThirteen cassette. Today I even swapped out the Race Face chainring for an Absolute Black non boost (6 mm) which brought my chainline closer to the bb/chainstay by 1.5 mm but same issue again. I was watching another video which mentioned this cassette and Shimano aren't designed to keep the chain on in the bigger rings while backpedaling. Something about a groove or cut in the cassette at one point in the rotation which makes it come off.

@jaimehop17634 жыл бұрын
Same thing happened to me at exactly 0.5% elongation. The three biggest cogs are aluminum, and therefore “disposable”. Ethirteen refused to cover it under warranty claiming that was the reason they designed the cassette in two parts. So you could only replace those bigger cogs. Have you heard the term “single used plastics”? Well, This are single use cassettes. Mine wore before the original set of tires and brake pads. Only lasted one chain. The worst part is I actually ended up buying the biggest cogs from them again, since there are very few 11 speed, 46 tooth, XD cassettes out there. The one from Sunrace was out of stock everywhere.

Upshifting up in clunky and jumps straight from 18 to 24, and on downshift, it skips from 46 to 33 .. I've indexed and cable tension tweaked the heel out of it but no luck! Back pedalling drops from the 46 to 39 every time! Reading through the posts, I'm now getting a feeling that e13 aren't great with customer service either, and to make matters worse, I'm in the UK and bought the kit from Germany (kit unavailable in the UK). Going to try a SRAM 12-speed chain in the hope that it fixes my issue! @@LoveMTB thanks pal! Yeah, I literally started from scratch when fitting the kit ie removing and cleaning/checking my derailleur and chainring, then the hi/lo limits, then cable tension. @ktmexctom6 жыл бұрын
Same as your setup in the video, I have also added a wolftooth wolfcage which has a further offset top jockey wheel and allowed me to use less b screw and have better chain wrap on the lower cogs while still being able to shift into the 46 without too much noise My issue is with the chain slipping on the 14t sprocket under load rather than any backpedalling fault

@tamasvarga677 жыл бұрын
I think these issues are not e13 cassette specific issues. KMC 11speed chain is kind of crap and the chain line should be moved outward so the side of the chain doesn't catch on the 10T. I had the same problem on 11 speed X1 cassette on the smallest cogs when I used a 30T 104bcd chainring which is spaced 2,5mm inward to not to catch on the spider.
@tamasvarga677 жыл бұрын
I know... luckily I have BSA BB so I could play with slim spacers.

I like my e thirteen cassette but has anyone had issues with it causing a clunk in your cranks during pedaling in all gears. All other possible issues have been checked so I believe it’s the cassette.
@VMweldingandfab7 жыл бұрын
The drive train is not designed to be pedaled backwards. If you have your chain on your biggest or smallest gear and you pedal backwards of course it's going to pop because your chainring is trying to guide it to be in the middle, that's why the derailleur moves when you shift, to keep the chain in place.
@VMweldingandfab7 жыл бұрын
LoveMTB alright. In the video I noticed the chain dropped after like 4-5 full backwards rotation of the cranks.

I have a trs race 11 speed, just put a gx eagle 12 speed chain to fix the problem dropping the chain backpedaling. It is the same if not worst. I can’t turn it more then A quarter turn and it drops. Ratcheting on the trail isn’t even possible

same here...my stock 11 spd chain hot 600 miles, so I dropped on a 12 spd chain...when upshifting it will ghost shift up and it can no longer back pedal. watched the chain wear the entire 600 miles and replaced it right when it failed the wear chk...ugghh

made the same expirience, working with e13 on a solution since weeks.
@Lumperator6 жыл бұрын
Honestly? It's better to go to Eagle. You gain absolutely perfect work and better grading. It makes no sense to pay so much money on E13, when you can buy a group of GX eagle for little more. The ideal solution would be if Sram released the 12 speed cassette in the option of tighter gradation (eg 10-45). I know, then there is no 500% , but seriously? Spread over gradation?
@bike45366 жыл бұрын
I had this e13 cassette on my new nomad and it lasted 8 weeks, went to replace the chain and no new chain would sit on the cassette, for a £300 cassette you would have thought it should last a lot longer than 8 weeks, for me, I'd say stick with sram or Shimano!!
@bike45366 жыл бұрын
LoveMTB Yes, between me and my local bike shop we got another one out of them but they didn't want to at first, my first time using e13 and not impressed, went back to sram straight away!!

Funny, but unfortunately the eagle GX 12 speed chain does everything WORSE than my KMC 11 speed chain with my eThirteen 9-46T cassette. Worse backpedalling, worse low gear jumping. Everything worse. I guess it was worth a try but a lot of variables not accounted for in these direct comparisons.
@climbslc22814 жыл бұрын
@@LoveMTB Yes, and again, it was worth a try. The 12 speed chain solve makes sense too. Maybe I'll try a KMC 12 sp. chain. otherwise I may need to ditch the eThirteen.

To add to that static geometry has almost peaked, new adjustable geo bikes are the new fad. By 2025 all the big players will have worked out all the geo issues. Even now you see all the specialization and options depending on how and where you ride. 21 lbs 120mm fs xc weapons to 30 lbs carbon dh sleds.

Got this cassette on a new bike I ordered it was to creaky and finicky and I did not like the ratios of the 9-46 gear range. Switched out for a Sunrace 11-46 for $75 and I am happy I did. The e13 cassette is over-priced, poorly engineered, and you need to buy their special tools to work on it. I can not in good conscience recommend this cassette, nothing but headaches.
