All of these videos on this cassette were terrific and left no stone unturned. It was a major reason why I bought one for my recently purchased 2017 Trek Fuel EX 9. (Knock Block!) The 2018 and '19 models have gone to Eagle GX and I found the 10-42, while shifting smoothly and efficiently, was a little limited coming off of an older 3x9 setup. The bike squeezed into my used budget though and I luckily got the cassette used but never ridden off of a YT takeoff in CAD, including the chain. (USD would have been mucho pricey in Canada) Stoked to see how this setup performs once the snow and -40 temperatures subside!

I'm running almost the same setup, just a different chainring in the front. I first bought the cassette 2 years ago and had to replace it after a while, because it was bent (probably a defect in production and I just didn't notice it from the start). They gave me a completely new cassette for free and since then everything is working very well.

This came on my nomad XE as standard issue and I love it. I think I might've messed up one of the aluminum gears with a horrible heavy power shift while trying to keep up with my local group. I love the fact I can just replace those gears in the cassette if damaged.

I ride Shimano 2x11 M8000 series and I stay by 2x systems as long as possibe. I really like quick gear changing between descend and climbing. Front shift one down, back shift one up and its it. I dont have to shift over whole cassete.

Yup. There are still many advantages of a 2X system: also including less angle across the chain line and more top end gears. I’m not sold on the 1X systems. Still too many issues.

This cassette came on my Santa Cruz Hightower LT build but after only 2 months or riding the aluminum granny gear started to warp! To their credit, E13 replaced it under warranty, but I opted to change my freehub and go with a Shimano XT cassette which are much more durable in my experience. Sure there’s a weight penalty, but I’ve never had an issue with Shimano cassettes. For the record, I’m 195lbs and use the granny gear a lot for climbing.

Good review, I am using a Box Components 11-46 11 speed cassette, XT derailleur and 30T chain ring on both my hard tail and my full suspension trail bike. I do a lot of climbing and I am super happy with the gearing and the cost of the cassette is only $90. For now I don't have any plans to change to a 12 speed since it will cost way more to keep running than my current setup and I don't feel a need for the 50T.

@@LoveMTB Yes, the Box cassette is made by Sunrace. I prefer it over Shimano because the sprocket ratios are more evenly spaced vs the Shimano 11-46. It is a little heavier than the pricier stuff but it it wears and shifts really well.

I've been using this setup (except with a SRAM 30T front) for the past year and a half. It's time to swap out to a new cassette. So far I've been very happy with the range of this cassette but one thing that really bugged me is the creaking I would get when I'd get the slightest bit of dust or dirt on the grease areas. If it got dry at all it would sound terrible. I basically just went to oiling it at the contact points along with the chain every other ride. I'm interested to see if this new pinch bolt solves this problem but I doubt it because it's aimed at improving a different part of the cassette. It's not the best shifting compared to XT either but it was a good compromise when Eagle was new and $450 for the cassette. We'll see.

I truly think it’s an incredible gear ratio they came up with . downside it’s over $200 for the cassette and u have to have a sram XD Freehub . So 225-260 for the cassette another 60.00 to convert my hud over to XD , I’m a lucky one that can with my hub Manufacture. New chain 50.00 ... it’s that time of year I take Advantage of Black Friday sales on the Internet . instead of buying this drive train system I’m spending the money on other components as they’re on sale ,can’t pass them up do not want to spend $300 just to have that 9 and 10 tooth sprocket that bad. I’m running 11/42 now so I will buy a 75.00 dollar Sunrace 11/46 and a ton of other parts.

Id recommend reading the instructions of that chain checker you are using. .5 means replace the chain on 11 and 12 speed systems. The e13 cassette eats any chain to the wear point faster than any high end mtb cassette that I have worked with. It's not durable in the long term compared to sram or even the shimano high end offerings for 11/12 speed. It shifts kind of shitty too! ha

Currently I use first gen Box One RD,I used SunRace 11-46T cassette, until it I worse it out, rode it until the chain jumped off. I rotate between three chain, change every month, to keep a smooth drivetrain, and keep the wear down, I do this until it's not possible any more. I am using a 11-46T xt cassette now cus I can out of cassettes, I did not buy any yet, but I am considering E thirteen. The next to try is the new Box One. But I need to go down in chainring size if doing that. but I won't install any more nice parts on my fuel ex cus it's abusing the drivetrain, it rocks from side to side, but I plan on new bike, So I think E thirteen will fit the bill, but it's pricey, but I don't care, I need performance, and a product that fits my needs. next on my wish list is fully adjustable shifter, but that does not exist yet, none on the market fit me. I tested the parts both on my hardtail which is stiff enough, performs quite well, with Kmc chain, but the fuel ex eats it up, 80km and I have to swap ridiculous. I haven't tried Sram chains yet, nor Connex, which I heard good things about. any one of you tried Connex? www.connexchain.com/en.html

@@LoveMTB He was saying Eagle drivetrain -- which I assume is Eagle shifter and derailleur -- with XTR cassette. To me I don't see the point of that. Especially since you need a new freehub body anyway (whether you buy XD or microspline). So far I think Eagle is brilliant. It's a different feel from XTR for sure but has its own unique feel. I don't see my XX1 shifter giving up anything in feel at all to XTR. But I'm comparing XX1 to XTR. The Eagle UPSHIFTING (both the shifter feel and the actual shift) is is quite stunning actually. Blazingly fast and smooth. Downshifts each (Sram and Shimano) have their own feel. Sram has a lighter feel actually; to get that light feel on Shimano you have to loosen the RD clutch torque, which gives more chain noise. Sram has an incredibly light feel AND keeps the chain tight. Shifting in to and out of 50T is every bit as good as all the other gears. Flawless. Shifting into the 42 is maybe the one area that could use improvement. It always shift (underpower is no exception) but sometimes nosier than I'd like. But I'm OCD about these things. Set up on Eagle I think needs to be bang on - chain length, cable tension and definitely b screw. I wouldn't want to be a novice trying to sort it out.

I just spent an hour dicking with mine just to tighten a hub and I’m no novice , been riding 23 yrs and worked at a bike shop for ten yrs. Why the need for two chain whips and no real guides machined in to ensure the bottom cluster is on correctly, plus the locking system is a bit of a bitch and does not go on smoothly and is somewhat hellish to pull off as the top cluster does not lock in or align smoothly.
