PLEASE READ: This is a Pet Budgie, not a wild bird. The Budgie is not native to Ontario, Canada. They are native to Australia. I would never randomly catch a wild bird. Our winters are brutal and most likely he would not survive our winter. Budgies that are wild and live in Australia are Green in color. Breeders have developed many color mutations such as this blue budgie that I found. You will never see a blue budgie in the wild unless it got loose from it's owner or someone let it go. Also pet budgies can be green here in Ontario and all over the world that are pets. Many people loose their pet bird through open windows or doors in their homes. This is clearly a pet and just because it's not handtame it still is a pet. When a pet bird is not tame they are considered to be wild but not wildlife. If a bird owner has two birds that have babies and they don't handle the babies they will be wild birds but still pets that live in their homes. A lot of people have birds that are not tame and consider them wild or untamed. The word WILD means untamed but still a pet. I hope this clears things up for those of you who think I am mean to catch this Budgie. It's more cruel to leave him outside. Hope you enjoyed the video and can use my method on how to catch a loose bird. Usually they go in the cage but flying into my birdroom was awesome! No one has claimed him yet, he may be my new bird! Love of Pets I caught a pigeon that had a band on it. It was a homing pigeon, but a bone was broken. The owner didn’t want it back, so we released it into a barn with two other pigeons. I haven’t checked on her in a while, but I hope she’s safe. I also rescued 3 (R.I.P the 4th) starving budgies from a pet shop. The owners didn’t know they were starving until one died. They were feeding them pellets, and the budgies didn’t know it was food. I’ve also rescued 2 cockatiels. One cockatiel was found by a doctor we knew, and we couldn’t find the owner. We decided to keep it. The second one the owner couldn’t take care of it anymore. We decided to keep it too.

Fun fact: The reason he/she is copying the sound of the sparrows is because he/she was probably part of their flock! Sparrows are very nice and willing to accept any birds that seem alone into their flock. The sparrows accept them as their own, and bring them to food, shelter, and help them survive! But of course so so glad you caught that budgie because it of course isnt a wild bird and probably doesnt know a predator yet!

It's very surprising how far wings can take a bird. It may not seem far, but trust me, they can travel very very long distances. So yes, I wouldn't be surprised if someone's budgie from America somehow migrated to Canada (that is if it was a state closer to Canada)

Some years back I came back from school to find an exhausted lost budgie perched on top of my budgie's cage in the back yard. I caught a young yellow budgie a couple of years ago in San Antonio, TX. My aunt would see it eating with the chickens every morning but she couldn't catch it because it was too fast for her lol so I told her to cover the entire cage but one side & cover the whole thing as soon as the budgie goes in. We had no gloves so I said to myself, "A nice hard pinch won't kill me"😂 so I went in & caught it with my bare hands just to learn it was very friendly. Did not even nibble at my fingers much less bite. It was so cute💛 Thanks for sharing💙💙

so a little over 2 months ago i lost my cockatiel who was under a year old, he was hand reared by me and hadn't had his wings clipped and never had been outside, he would fly around my house and was pretty chill. on the 18th of April he fell out of an open window and panicked so started to fly but he lost his sense of direction and soon he was out of sight. we put up plenty of posts in hope of someone finding him but never did, i had lost hope. Today we got a message and turns out someone had found him! so now i have my baby back but I'm going to have put in a lot of work to regain his trust and let him heal as he was living in the wild for as i said over two months! its a miracle he is even alive still let alone back with me. I'm scarred he will never fully be tamed again but i won't lose hope now after i had given up on him. To anyone who has lost a bird don't lose hope, miracles do happen!

Thank you for recording this process and glad the budgie is safe with you. Your budgies were probably chirping “This is a great place to be. You will get lots of care and love here! Come on in birdy!” I also believe the budgie was out there for awhile to be able to chirp like the sparrows. You will probably be owning him since it’s been so long. I just hope no one tries to claim him as theirs because they saw this video and know your proximity since you mentioned where you advertised in your video. Does he check out to be healthy?

When I was in the 8th grade I went to the swimming pool and found a budgie there. His head was completely bald and he was very stressed. I remember everyone at the pool was trying to catch him with their hands, only stressing him more. So I stepped up, covered him with a towel and caught him. The lifeguards gave me a box and I took him him where he spent his life relaxing and playing with his budgie girlfriend! We never found his owners, but I was kind of glad because I loved him so much. He died in 2013, and I still miss him, he was such a cute bird. His head feathers never grew back but I considered his bald spot part of his charm lol!

Seriously? Budgies are not native to my area, he is a pet budgie. He is all alone, he did not live with a flock of budgies. Read my description and you will understand more. Budgies live in Australia in a huge flock with thousands of budgies. I am in Canada and we have freezing cold, snowy, icey winter's and he would be dead by now. There are tons of pet birds that fly out of people's windows all the time and they can not live in our climate. They are pets and not wild birds. It would be like dropping you off in the middle of the desert and saying good luck, go and survive, lol. I can't believe how anyone thinks like you. Do some research first before responding with the wrong information, read the description and ask me questions first before you decide that I am catching a wild bird for no reason. Why would I do that? I love wild birds and I feed them and if I find an injured wild bird I bring it to the wild life centre. It's against the law to capture wild birds and keep them as pets, the poor bird would suffer. This budgie was an escaped bird or someone let him loose because they did not want him anymore which is cruel. He is doing great and is happy with my flock now.

So happy you got him. He may of survived a few month in the open if he found seed but the cold weather would be the worst for him. I have also lured budgies in with my own budgies. My feeders outside are always full of seed just in case there is one who is hungry. People don't really feed the wild birds around me but I always do. He does look like a young bird and I'm sure you will be able to tame him.🐦😘

I am happy I found him before the winter. There are so many missing birds out there. Some are deceased when found, they die of starvation, predators or exhaustion. I saved a few birds that were chased by crows here (Cockatiels mostly) and I know how hard and frustrating it can get, but boy that feeling when you finally save the bird... can't describe it. You really feel satisfied. As I keep a few birds on my own that are outside the cage 8-24 and just go in to sleep and eat, I gave the rest to responsible people if I couldn't find owners. I was soooo incredibly sad. Looked all day and into night for him, to no avail. I left some seed and water outside for him. The next morning I went out looking again. I actually found him. He was with a group of sparrows. It was almost as if the sparrows took him in. I brought my other bird's cage outside. He came to it and I brought him back inside. I was sooooo happy. I still think its interesting that sparrows will take budgies in. I've heard of this happening many times.

I had similar instance last week. My dad and I were outside repairing his porch when a parakeet came flying right into his face before fluttering off. It was almost dark and we soon lost sight of it. The next day, it was back, munching on our bird feeder. we tried to get close, but to no avail. The next day was slightly chilly and with a frost advisory for that night, so we knew it probably wouldn't survive the night. Fortunately, I was able to catch it that afternoon with a fishing net. I know it's not exactly the nicest way to catch it, but it was a matter of life or death for the bird. Thankfully we were able to get a hold of its owner and the bird was safely returned.

I found a budgie nearing my pet budgies after going home from shopping. The bird was willing to go inside with the other two, and when it was with them, the budgie ate a lot of my pet lovebird’s food (my lovebirds are also budgies) and slept immediately. I just caught her today, and named her Ashy. Ashy fits well with the other two parakeets, and we plan to buy them a bigger cage. I was a dog vlogger, and started to vlog my pet budgies, and you can see our videos in my channel!

I love how you did this. I used to lure my single budgie towards me with the sounds of other budgies played from my mobile phone. This might be useful for those who try to catch a budgie without the help of other budgies

That happened to my cockatiel, the past family found him outside and somehow got him to come. They sadly had to surrender him after a few years and I took him in and he is now my buddy 💖

Wonderful video! Jack Sparrow, how cute! I always wondered how other people found parrots and not me, lol! We had a Lilac Crowned Amazon that someone found in their yard and brought into our bird lady's store one day when we were there buying food. I had to have him. He was a wonderful boy. Died during the summer. We think he was about 30. Right now we only have Amazons and Goffin's Cockatoos....miss the Budgies!

About a year ago, there was a green budgie coming to my bird feeder. I really wanted a bird at the time and did plenty of research about budgies (pls don’t hate as it was someone’s lost pet and would’ve died that Christmas) and made a bet with my dad that if I could catch it I could keep it. He didn’t believe I could :) We didn’t have any budgies at the time, so we couldn’t use the method she did, we tried hanging a hamster cage with millet inside, it would sit on top, but couldn’t find a way inside. We ended up borrowing my neighbors old cat cage and caught it. But it squeezed through the bars while I was celebrating, we ended up putting mesh over it. I would sit behind it every day with the bird feeder inside until one day she went in and I pulled the string connected to the door. The whole process took two weeks. She was not young and w knew she was a previous pet and asked around, but no one claimed her. We named her Kiwi and then got her a friend, Blue (short for Blueberry). Kiwi and Blue are now pretty tame and will sit on my finger, or my shoulder. Blue will even give me kisses. It took me a few months, but now they are tame! And recently I even got two more budgies named Pickle and Twinkie, they are babies and I really want them to have a special bond with me and my sister. So yeah, if Kiwi had never come I would never be able to have a bird and develop my love for them. It was quite a blessing, and now they are quite content.

Wow, so much careful prep and patience. I caught 3 stray budgies as a kid. Being agile and cautious, I simply advanced (very very slowly) close enough to grab the bird with a quick move, always aiming where the bird would be instead of where it was. That trick came from years of hunting lizards in the wild, my crazy hobby. Works with budgies like a charm.

You’re a very patient and nice lady . I too caught a Budgie from my yard 3 years ago . Since she’s gained lots of weight and never had mites.. She was dirty though. I named her Suzie/CC. I thought she might be sick later on because of weight gained but never taken her to a vet because she still eats and chirps. Her partner which I got for her died 6 months ago. She used to fly with a flock of pigeons in circles.,I couldn’t believe she could keep up with them being that she’s about 10 tines smaller. I too set a cage outside with food which can be also used for hamster or rabbits and so the door is large. I tied butchers twine on the cage’s door. Pigeons and sparrows were going in and out to eat. I managed to pull the twine when she was inside alone.

Btw: I’ve always found it easy catching a budgie or cockatiel by throwing a white or solid color towel over them as if was a fish net. Stripes and certain patterns makes my cockatiel hiss.

True story... my mom lived in a retirement home. Every day she and her friends would sit outside and feed the pigeons. They were so surprised to find a budgie hanging out with the pigeons! He continued to visit for several more days, but then never returned.

what a lovely person you are to put so much effort into rescuing the budgie! I botched a feral cockatiel rescue once and felt bad about my incompetence. I now have some good pointers from you for future bird rescue attempts. Your birdroom is so nice...what a lucky fellow he is to have landed in your yard. Angel wings must have guided him there...
@diegocast1997176 жыл бұрын
That is how I got my first budgie! Like it went into my hands. However, keeping in mind the overpopulation of cats I think you did a great job rescuing it and making it part of your family, it would probably take weeks for it to starve or get eaten as it is not a native bird. Such a cutie and very young!

What patience you have. How cute he is. He was just a baby boy. Maybe 4 or 5 months old. You are a very nice person to try so hard to find his owner and to rescue him from being outside all alone without a flock. I found my budgie that way. Only I rescued him from heavy traffic. Not sure if you still have him, but he will probably be a great talker if the only budgie, since he learned to speak sparrow so soon. I love your bird room!

I still have him as no one claimed him. That's great you saved one from being in traffic 😮

@@Loveofpets yes he wasn't claimed by anyone either. Such pretty sky blue opaline grey wing. I had him for 9 short years. He passed away last year in August and I still miss my little Beakeeto, very much. He was easy to tame and he learned his first words within 6 weeks of finding him. "Pretty Beakeeto, pretty bird." He was talking non-stop after that. He learned something new every week. Before long he learned to say around 350 words. He said the darnest things at just the right moment. He pulled new words out of his memory bank and used them in context, based on what was happening. Such a smart bird! He was so much fun to be around. Every day was always a party and he was the entertainment. He loved to make me laugh. My sweet baby boy, I miss him so much! He was a huge presence in my life. Such a happy boy. I also have an IRN, but she only says few words and she just isn't playful and fun like he was. She missed him so much when he passed away. It broke my heart. She called his name for months. Then she just suddenly stopped saying his name. Ironically, on the aniversary of his passing she called out his name, "Beaky" again several times; after not saying it for about 9 months. I am convinced that it was a message from my budgie. He knew how much I was missing him. He just wanted me to know he was still with us. After that day, she hasn't called out for him again. My profile picture is my Ringneck GiLi and Beaky together. He helped me raise her from a chick. They were close, until she matured, then I had to separate them at playtime. She got cranky and he saw it as a fun opportunity to pester her and she started to lunge at him, so I ended that as soon as it started. Their cages were next to each other so he would talk to her all the time. "You dumb ass bird." Or "You're such a messy bird." When I cleaned her cage or "Quiet, I said be quiet, stop it!" When she was having a scream fest. Haha. Such a joy!
