I really enjoyed that video. I found it interesting that with all the birds you have that Monty knew right away it was a new bird. I also like that you showed the mess that birds can make. I have 3 birds and deal with the same thing. I think potential bird owners see the cute KZbin videos and go out and get a bird not quite prepared for the mess that goes along with it, so appreciate it when KZbinrs show the not so great side of owning birds as well so they can make a good decision. Koolaid is going to be so happy there and seemed to be fitting right in with the other bourkes.

Welcome Koolaide, such a nice edition to your flock. Looks like she is blending in real well with your bourkes. Will she be in their cages?, or maybe stay in her own for awhile? I don't think Monty would like her in his cage, ha-ha-ha! Koolaide has found such a nice new home and could not have found a better new owner. How is it that the previous owner handed her off to you?
@Loveofpets4 жыл бұрын
I may try to keep her in the cage with the others and see what happens. Monty does not like to share 😂 The person saw me on a Facebook page and reached out to me.
@jima93564 жыл бұрын

Did you have all bourkes since babies? How did you hand tame if not ?
@Loveofpets4 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes I had them since they were babies. Rosey and Raspberry were hand raised as babies. Ruffles, Rascal and Raindrop are Rosey's babies and I handled them since two weeks old. Koolaide was hand tamed from the previous owner.
@megsutube18154 жыл бұрын
Have you bred your Borkes Before? Are cockatiels usually bossy over smallish birds? Thank you.
@Loveofpets4 жыл бұрын
Yes my Bourke's bred twice and I still have three of their babies, one got a home. It depends on the cockatiel. My other cockatiels are nice around other birds. Monty is the boss of the birdroom so he is bossy with others to show them he is boss, but he is fine with other birds once he had a had a talking to them, lol

How do you know male from female? Are they DNA tested?
@Loveofpets4 жыл бұрын
She was not dna tested but just assuming female from her head shape, head color and size.
@leannahouse26334 жыл бұрын
@@Loveofpets If you don't mind could you please explain the head shape and size differences between male and female? I have a Rosey Bourke as well as a Lutino Bourke and I have no idea what their gender is 🙂
@Loveofpets4 жыл бұрын
Hi, females are usually smaller then the males and their head is smaller and more round then the males. The females will have more grey on their heads while the males have some blue but sometimes it's very hard to tell as a male may look female. I find it's best to look at their behavior. The females will put their tail in the air and chirp quietly and the males do a dance when they want to breed
@rubii804 жыл бұрын
Shes so pretty and that colour 😍 7:05🤣
@elidavidcuevas33254 жыл бұрын
Great observation. Birds especially parrots have heightened senses and can tell all the birds around them apart and can tell something is different, off or changes to their environment by their routine structure. They also know what gender we humans are individually by smell & sound of our voices.

Awwww what a cute little birdie! Do you know what temperature is too hot and too cold for parrots to be outside?🐦
@Loveofpets4 жыл бұрын
Some birds can take the colder or hotter weather than others can. I believe if it's too hot or cold for you then it's too hot or cold for them but it varies species to species. Bourkes and Canaries prefer to be on the warmer side. Kakarikis are from a cold climate and can tolerate the colder weather since they have dense feathers. I would say between 20 to 24 celcius is a good temperature inside your home. Some can tolerate 18 to 20 celcius.

Adorable, I think Bourkes are my favourites after watching your videos! They seem so sweet, who cares if they don’t speak I could watch them for ages.

Apparently, bourkes don't climb. Had my male I month, he climbs all around the cage, at first he was a clumsy flyer, but now is graceful,& lands where he wants to. He is also a total lover of head& neck strokes. No hands yet, I use the stem of a millet spray. He also likes music, and my silly voices get his head bobbing, and he luvs a strut. The difference 1 month has made is incredible. Thank you for your videos.
@Loveofpets23 күн бұрын
Your welcome! Bourkes in general don't climb unless they have to. It's because their legs are shorter than other birds that climb and their feet are very tiny. I have seen one of mine climb for a few seconds than flew. I love Bourkes and currently have 7.

I Love birds and have always had birds all my life !!! I had a lot of different kinds .....My first bird I ever had was an English Budgie that lived to 10yrs , then I had 4 Paroletts , then a Peach faced Love Bird for 20 yrs , then I got a Rosey Bourke that I bought from an Exotic Bird Store and after 3 yrs she got sick and I took her to the vet and had to put her down because she was born with a genetic liver disease....it was right after my sister had passed away too, I never cried so hard in my life !!! Her name was Rose Bud ( my sister named her ) then I had a Quaker Monk Parakeet , that I had to give to a rescue at 6 months old ( I got him at 4 months ) because I lived in an apartment and he was very loud and my neighbors were complaining ( I NEVER gave any animal I ever owned up ) but I did it out of respect for my neighbors......well the Rescue place adopted him out to a women who knew nothing about parrots and never had owned one ( I called them and asked them why they would give him to someone who knew nothing about birds !!! I told them she was going to kill him and lo and behold not even 2 months later ( he wasn't even 8 months old ) he died. I cried like a baby , I warned them but they didn't listen to me. I was just devastated and still am cause this just happened about 4 months ago .....His name was Loki. I learned a terrible lesson , I am still trying to get over the fact that he died . I think she had something toxic in her house that actually killed him ......I'm sorry I have to tell you such a sad story , but my heart is so broken , I just needed to tell someone .....I love all your birds , they are all very beautiful and well cared for !!! God Bless You and all your little Angels !!! ❤️ Thank you for hearing my story 💕

Sorry for your losses. Its possible it was genetic and nothing to do with their care of your Quaker. Hopefully he didn't suffer too much and enjoyed the time he had. Hugs!

I've had a male Bourke now for a few months and he will not go near me. During the day, I keep his cage open and he does come out and fly around, but he will not go near me. And if I reach inside his cage to change his food and water, he is afraid. How did you get this Bourke to climb up onto your hand?
@Loveofpets9 ай бұрын
Hi, my Bourke was hand raised and that's why she steps up. It's possible your Bourke was raised by its parents will little interaction with humans, however if raised by humans, some birds prefer not to interact with humans. If your Bourke was raised by its parents with no interaction with humans then it's natural to be more wary of you. You have to earn its trust. Try holding a piece of spray millet in your hand and start by holding it on the outside of the cage while the bird is in the cage. Once the bird is accepting the food through the cage bars then try to put your hand inside the cage. Offer a large piece at first so the bird doesn't have to come too close to you and once it's comfortable make the millet smaller and smaller and the bird will have to step up to get to the millet. Offer the bird a few bites at a time, don't give too much to make the bird full. Once the bird takes the millet from your hand offer the millet while the bird is out of the cage and the bird will start to fly to you to eat the millet. It will take time and patience to tame your Bourke. Keep in mind that the bird may always be wary of you or the bird may become more tame with time. Its best to train in the morning when the bird is hungry. Remove food before bed so the bird won't eat other food before training session. After training feed normal breakfast. Train throughout the day and before dinner. Hope this helps

Hi dona can you say how to train lovebirds and I'm really sad because my birds are not coming in my hands but your birds are coming in your hands and playing with so can you put video how to train birds
@Loveofpets4 жыл бұрын
Hi, most of my birds were hand raised as babies so that's why they are tame. I do have to keep them tame and I do that by offering them treats like spray millet, tiny pieces of almonds or safflower etc. I talk to them and I never force them to step up or to be touched. I read their body language and respect them. I feed them well and keep them clean and spend lots of time with them. Sometimes it is hard to tame birds that were raised by their parents and never handled by humans but it can be done with patience, positive reinforcement and treats. Start by holding a piece of spray millet in your hand and they should eat it and eventually they will step on your hand to eat it.
