Just a wee thought about the sliding bed. My father in law was an old cabinet maker and if there was a bare wood to wood surface that rubbed together, he would take a candle and scribble over both surfaces. Reduced friction greatly. Might help with the “butter smooth” finish you’re looking for…and won’t bust the budget! Great job on your van.

We have supported the bed as we hire it out and you never know how heavy the people are !! Good build so far. Probably consider putting in a stopper for the bed so you don't accidentally pull it out too far and maybe round the corners on the top of the cupboard so you don't catch your hip on it.

Excellent progress - that bed looks really good - with some great ideas that you make so easy to understand! The kitchen unit was neat too. If you don't need a catch to hold the doors closed when driving, I've used the kind of 'catch' that you push the door in and it springs the door out so you can open it (then the next push closes the door). I'm not sure how well they will work in a van (I have them in my kitchen at home, which thankfully doesn't move!

Love how you're making everything in a way that anyone can copy with basic skills and tools. And if they can't you pointed out some great options online that aren't horrendously expensive to buy. Is there a reason you chose not to do sliding doors on the cabinet? Then you wouldn't have the problem of opening the cabinet when the bed is out. I would've liked to see how you do that. Maybe in your next build. 😝
@lorrainesveganallotment8876 ай бұрын
I built a full height kitchen in mine. It has a drop down table on the top half. It was a real faff to build though. I made it with a frame and then clad the outside faces. There's not a straight line anywhere but it holds loads of stuff. Yours looks much neater.
@wrightfamily43736 ай бұрын
Great content for handles I just drill off circular hole across the four corners that meet on the doors make a little area. You can just pull each door open accordingly would look rather nifty and you wouldn’t be getting caught on things as you walk past it and at no cost

I subscribed a while back when I was helping my nephew convert a van. Sadly he ran out of money to keep her on the road, but I’m still subscribed as I love your videos 😊. Bed looks cool… if you ever do another, I wonder if rather than drilling through the ply, so your jigsaw can make straight cuts, could you literally shape them like round fingers, so it could be one continuos cut, for an even smoother aesthetic 😊

My dad is a carpenter and has his own Pine wood furniture company. He threw away lots of scrap wood that anyone could take wood from in a skip behind the business. You should look into this near you. I’m sure it’s the norm tbh. 😊

You could look at getting your wood from IKEA, not sure if you've got a local one , but they're always putting panels out which could be upcycled to suit your needs and save you some cash . I know it's not ideal really because it can be weight restrictions but you could get some bits you'd save a bit of Dosh...cheers

When scribing just use cardboard, then can cut easily with scissors rather than jig-sawing another piece of off-cut wood. If you 'over-cut' an area, then just tape/stick/staple some more cardboard back on and have another go.

Probably better quality than B&Q too Probably better using a router than a jig saw to provide clearance if it wasn’t a budget build
@LoveSundays6 ай бұрын
Yes that’s what my dad said also. I just don’t have a router and I figured most other people wouldn’t either. It’s fine doing a budget build but if you’re using tools most people won’t have it because less doable for most
