Check yr 12v ( cigarette lighter ) plug and cables don’t overheat - it’s very thin cable for all that drain - that looks like the only potential issues 👍🏼

I've got the same set up (delta max) on a factory built van and don't pull more than 8 amps on 12v . I stripped the eco flow charge cable down and its soldered lugs and about 2.5mm2

I still don't understand why the original system doesn't work. If it did now it doesn't. There has to be a fault with the equipment... although you've got around the problem, it's not fixed, and with that level of kit, I'd need to know why. Too many people run with the same equipment hassle free. Victron seems to be the most popular gear in the 'vanlife community' Anyway good luck with whatever you decide.

I think using the power pack for your main source of power is a genius idea, especially having the solar to keep it going. I would definitely go down that route when I start my van conversion. I really admire your videos Shaun, what a place to live. I absolutely love Cornwall

I went down the power station route.. works fantastic.. I have the bluetti 200max which has a 30amp output so that goes straight into my fuse box.. 400w solar on the roof to charge it.. I also have an inverter that I can turn on and off manually when the engine is running to charge up the power station using the original power AC brick that came with it. It all works great so far..

Great vid for those looking at the choice of running a van off of a power station vs traditional electric set up. I guess you can also have back up portable things like unfoldable solar mats placed on the van dash charging a brick, and dirt cheap solar/USB lamps. A question for all. I'm guessing you would now always go with the simplicity of the power station option? Also what sort of cost difference is there between the two set ups once you include the lithium battery and individual parts of the trad set up?

I've just finished hard wiring my Bluetti ac200max into my van. It's charging through the solar and as I'm driving at the same time, double free electric.👍 I've also got a delta 2, which if the bluetti gets low in winter I can use to charge the bluetti. I drive lorries for a living so I can recharge the Delta while I'm at work, so triple free electric👍 Love the videos keep up the hard work.

I hope that cigarette socket, plug and wire to the fuse board can handle the current and not just the volts...? As for losing faith in the Victron system, is that not because you might not have wired (earthed) properly to be an 'isolated' or 'non isolated' system?

Hi Shaun, Dont ditch the DC2DC charger. You could fit a yellow connector to the output of the dc2dc and insert it in to the PV2 on the back of the ecoflow (you may need to tone down the output from the dc2dc in the app for the ecoflow to handle it) but it would be much faster than using the 12v socket in the front. Also I would really like a chopping board to hang up in me van! I was too slow last time!!! Loving the videos :)

I'm no electrical expert and know nothing about the Ecoflow, but it looks like youre drawing 8.75A (105W) from a socket that says max 3A? Also, not sure what you have, but some of the cigarette lighter male plugs are only rated at 5A, and some have no fuse in them, and the wiring to it looks a bit small? Please be careful, I love watching your videos, I'd hate the next one to be about the van catching on fire!

I use a EcoFlow Delta Pro as my only power and I live in my Sprinter full time all year round! Yes the fan can be heard but it’s never really bothered me! It only really kicks in when you charge from the mains and set the EcoFlow to charge as fast as possible. I normally set mine to charge at 500w if using the mains,it’s less stress on the battery. When using solar the fan is hardly noticeable!
@andredavies6191
@andredavies6191 11 ай бұрын
@@philiproberts6947 thanks for your comment. Okay that’s great. So the fan wouldn’t really be that loud if it’s under a sofa seat then. How do you cope With charging it whilst driving have you got it connected via a battery to battery charger as I’ve seen the 12v supply takes forever to charge ? I love the idea of not having to bother with all the victron set up and just use the delta max as my only source of electrics just a little hesitant if there’s any issues doing that
@philiproberts6947
@philiproberts6947 11 ай бұрын
@@andredavies6191 I have never used my cigarette lighter to charge it,they don’t give out many watts so as you say will take forever to charge! I tend to charge mine while at work around once a week in winter and around every three weeks in summer! I don’t use any heavy load appliances and only cook on gas! I have 8 LED spot lights in the roof,a Maxair fan,a 4kw Autoterm diesel heater,and 3 USB charging points in my van all wired into a 12v fuse box which is powered from the 30amp Anderson connector on the power pack! Obviously if you are going run air fryers and things power will soon disappear! If I charge it at full power it will charge in around 1 hour 30 mins,the fan really gets going then to keep the battery cool! As mentioned I charge mine at 400-500 watts! From single figure percentage it takes around 8-9 hours at the charging input. I’m never in a need to charge fast and can happily be in the van while it’s charging up with only very slight noise from the fan! For comparison the night heater is like a jet engine when that going flat out! You could fit a 200-300w solar panel on your roof and wire this direct into your EcoFlow and it will charge fine as the EcoFlow has the MPPT all built into it! Not sure what EcoFlow you’re looking at but the Delta Pro is a lump to move around! Mine isn’t even fixed down,it just sits there and never moves,even while driving!

@LoveSundays
@LoveSundays 11 ай бұрын
Depending on the power station it should tell you the watt out out for the socket. This cigarette output on the ecoflow is 10A which has a max draw of 126W. When I was running the the lights fridge and fan it went up to 105W so as long as your TV and heater don’t draw more than 20W combined then you should be fine. Or just don’t have the heater and the fan on at the same time. You can also get some units that have a 30A Dc socket. With that you wouldn’t have to worry at all

Few questions.. whats the cheapest, the setup you installed or the ecoflow?

The eco flow is about half the price of the other set up when you include the leisure battery

When I wired my van I ran a neutral/earth cable from the vehicle battery in addition to the live v(via a VSR), no sketchy vehicle earth issues. If you decide to offload your battery and MPPT I'll happily recycle them for you 😉
