shortly after I started practicing yoga I went vegan. it felt like the right pathway for me. that was 7 years ago and I'm still enjoying following a vegan lifestyle. there are so many vegan options these days especially if you live in a larger city. great topic!

I believe that, like many, Ashtanga or yoga is something that cannot be taught... please stop using the words "teach and teacher", yoga is ethereal and each person must experience it with their own body and each body is different, which is why it cannot be TAUGHT.

I think that anyone who maintains a steady long term yoga practice will eventually become vegan. It only makes sense since yoga is the practice of peace and Ahimsa dictates causing no harm to others. I don't think you can eat animals that suffered on their way to the slaughterhouse and attain enlightenment.

there have been no vegan societies sustained throughout all history. eating meat hasn't made all the people of history immoral any more than other animals who also eat meat. factory farming and animal exploitation are unacceptable and not the way humans have been living in balance with nature for our whole evolution. yogis in India still ate high quality dairy which is full of important minerals and vitamins. i became severely sick and depleted after years of eating a very ungrounded diet too high in fruits, juices, salads and other raw yin foods. i am now healing on nutritional balancing which includes organic properly raised meat. i do yoga every day. we can live in balance with nature as intended.

Lauren, it is impossible for 8 billion people to consume meat, eggs, fish and dairy without animal exploitation and environmental degradation. Even organic dairy relies on forced impregnation and male Bobby calves been killed with a couple of days of birth. Our oceans are heavily depleted of marine life due to overfishing. 8 billion humans cannot "live in balance with nature as intended", whilst consuming animal products. Nature never "intended' for one species population to explode globally and dominate the globe, or live high rise cities of 20m people.

@@GlennMarshallnz I totally agree that there are too many people, and I totally agree that dairy is exploitative, even if done in the most ethical fashion. (I also find it disgusting tbh.) I don't know if 8 billion people can eat meat without factory farming and environmental degradation from a factual statistical standpoint. But I do know that for as long as humans have been humans we have been omnivores who rely on animal foods for health, and us over populating the planet doesn't change what our bodies need to thrive. Trust me, I wish it weren't the case, but there are a lot of people who can't sustain veganism because we get depleted. You cant feed your cat oatmeal and expect it to be healthy. We dont need a lot of animal foods, but most of us need some.

@@laureneyton-jones5926 Hi Lauren, we both seem to agree that minimal animal product consumption is best for our planet. Grass fed meat is kinder on the animals and kinder on the local environment. Unfortunately grass fed livestock take up much more land than growing plants for humans, and we have already cleared most of the world's forests. Personally I'm vegan, and believe minimal animal consumption is best for health, planet, and animal welfare. All the best from New Zealand.

@@GlennMarshallnz it's a very interesting topic! From some farmers I know here in Canada, I've learned/been told that there is a symbiotic relationship between the livestock and the crops as the manure remineralizes the soils as they rotate fields. It's true that it does take up space but without the remineralization the soils cant grow their produce properly. The farmers who have told me this are also extreme environmentalists so Im keen on believing them, but Im neither a farmer nor a scientist so Im just taking their word for it, and also looking at traditional agriculture through history. If we could never hurt another animal again that would make me feel a little less mortified by humanity! Hopefully one day. Final note; my husband just turned on a nature show where a lion on the savana is taking down a wilderbeast....now she is being fought off the kill by hyenas who are now ripping into the wilderbeast....so she goes hungry! Sigh. This planet!! Greetings from Canada!
