The car was restored once before and I think this is a good opportunity for the dad to involve his son in its second restoration--it's only just given his folly but it might teach him something and light a new interest.

Also, the boring teacher is Ben Stein, a man of many hats. At various times he has been a character actor, game show host, magazine writer, newspaper columnist, attorney, economist, and speech writer for President Nixon.

What I loved about the movie is, these high schoolers really spent a day doing interesting things. They didn't just go to the mall or an arcade (the 1980's), they went to the "tallest" building, the stock exchange, the fancy restaurant, the museum and a baseball game. That's a full day of real experiences. One of my favorite feel-good movies!

The 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder in the movie sells for around $17 million in 2020 dollars when up for auction. Any extra mileage or damage is a BIG deal. (Cameron’s family must be loaded). Luckily the car in the movie was actually three fiberglass mock-ups one of which was hurled out the window (didn’t even have a engine). The drivable replica which had pretty good specs for 1986 is apparently also sought after by movie car aficionados. The company that made the replicas got sued by Ferrari for using their emblem without permission.

I absolutely loved this movie as a kid, and I definitely wished I could be as cool as Ferris Bueller. I always felt bad for Cameron, but as an adult, I can see a lot of myself in him, and I believe that if he stood up for himself more, he would have been better off. Mia Sarah is a treat in this film as Ferris's girlfriend Sloane. I think she helped to provide the middle ground between Cameron and Ferris showing how well the trio worked.

It's the Von Steuben Day Parade. It is never stated to be that particular parade in the movie. The Von Steuben Parade is generally celebrated around the 17th of September and Ferris Bueller's Day Off takes place near the end of the school year in June. That said, in this movie, this particular parade is only considered to be a generic one. Since John Hughes was a big celebrity in Chicago (as most of his movies take place there), the organizers of the parade were more than welcoming of him filming during it. Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben was a figure of the colonial era of the US. He was a major figure in the American Revolutionary War and a good ally of General Washington. Parades in Philadelphia, Chicago and New York celebrate him and honor his legacy every year.

Surprisingly enough, although this film is largely considered a "teen movie" I didn't appreciate it at all when my dad tried to show it to me as a teenager. I thought "yeah yeah, the plot of a kid pretending to be sick to skip school is in every sitcom or cartoon, what makes this so special?" It wasn't until I was 28-years-old in 2020 that I rediscovered it, and now it's in my top 3 favorite films. Cameron's story resonates so strongly and is still relevant today, and his breakdown near the end while he's kicking the car can bring me to tears. I also do love stories in which characters just do *everything* in one day, and I love "larger than life" / great manipulator characters who can unrealistically get away with anything like Ferris. The songs are exactly my style, and the parade scene is a BLAST! (And don't even me started on the unexplainable beauty of the short museum scene.) The movie as a whole has so many deep layers and believable friendships on top of all the humor and fun gimmicks (and so many lines that I now quote all the damn time). I adore it, and I'm so happy that you loved and appreciated it too!

There's something about that white simple background and large stylized font for John Hughes movie posters. Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Mr. Mom both have that same kind of layout along with Career Opportunities, The Great Outdoors, Dutch, and Only the Lonely to name a few. These last films were written or produced by John Hughes under his Production company Hughes Entertainment all sharing this same design. I haven't seen this movie somehow so unfortunately will not be reacting but from the title it seems you really enjoyed it. Random question but have you thought about getting a community discord server where subscribers could get together and chat along with recommend movies? If your afraid of spoilers you can appoint mods who oversee the discord removing any spoilers. Other discords also have a room for movie spoilers where the owner (You) never looks in but lets people spoil away.

1. Alan Ruck was 29 when filming. 2. Charlie Sheen didn't sleep for 48 hours prior to his scene. 3. It's unfair the clueless people like his parents make so much money. Especially his dad. 3. Grace the secretary pretending to be Ed Rooney during the phone call from Cameron was improvised. 4. Not pealing out in front of Rooney would have stopped him from going after Ferris. 5. Odds are if someone has a doggie door they have a dog. 6. This was John Hughes' ode to his hometown of Chicago. (RIP) John Hughes. 7. I'm not in line to be his "friend" because I wouldn't let him walk all over and/or Bull$hit me. 8. That school was also used for "Uncle Buck" and "The Breakfast Club". I loved how Ben Stein (the dull teacher) did his lesson based on what he knew--it was ad-lib. He was involved with politics, having worked with President Nixon and Ford (speechwriter). He knows quite a bit about politics and other subjects. The only thing he really messed up was the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, which he swapped the Senator and House members by saying Hawley-Smoot...but if that's all he got wrong, that's better than most people would do for a lesson made up on the spot. Since by now you have watched Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, you'd also see him as the guy at the airport announcing cancelled flights, and behind him in that film is the board saying Destination: Nowhere. The secretary in this film also shows up in that film during the F-bomb rant. Oh, and the people who played Ferris's parents in this film got along so well that they got married after this film, in real life. I love John Hughes movies. Yes, they center around Chicago. Often, they involve problems getting to or from there, but not always. This film allows them to explore the city a bit.

if you like baseball movies, and the guy from 2 and a half men who was in the police station, you'll LOVE Major League 😉

@@AwesomeUSMovies yeah I'm too poor to be a patron and vote myself, but I can definitely offer ones I think would do well (if I'd known about your channel right as the lockups started I'd have recommended The Shining for instance because being trapped and isolated is basically the premise)

23:44 "Sooner or later, everyone goes Gazoo" Gazoo was a mischievous extraterrestrial creature on the Flintstones cartoon with seemingly limitless magical powers. He liked Fred, but usually ended up driving him crazy with his pranks.

Wait what? I watched the Flintstones. I know nothing about this. WTH??? There was an alien in Flintstones?

@@AwesomeUSMovies Wow, really? He was a tiny guy with a big head, and wore a helmet with two big projecting antennae with little balls on the end. Hold on, I'll see what I can dig up about him... EDIT: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJe7aoaDoLCKfLc

@@AwesomeUSMovies I think the Great Gazoo mostly appeared in later episodes, but he was definitely there. It was pretty weird, but he was my favorite charcter most of the time.

There was a character in the later episodes of the Flintstones, named, Gazoo. That's true. But I hate to break it to you, that's not the line, in this movie. She says, "Sooner or later, everyone goes to the zoo." Meaning, sooner or later everyone goes a little crazy. I can see how you could make that mistake, but I promise you, it's 'the zoo'. :) Great 80's classic. Great reaction. :)
