Ferrets are extremely social creatures. Please never separate a bonded pair, and please if you decide to get one, make sure you get 2. Ferrets deserve happy and full lives.

During Covid one of my two ferrets at the time passed away, it was has hard to find ferrets for adoption at the time. I called a Petco and they had gotten ferrets in that day. I planned to get 2, because I had an older ferret and the younger one would need someone to play with as well. When I got to the Petco, there were 3 in available, so I got all 3, cause I could not leave one behind all on their lonesome. So I went from 1 ferret to 4 in an afternoon lol.

Same goes with rats , a lone rat is never a happy one. They are very social and sleeping together in one big cuddle is their daily ritual. People say they seem happy and that they give them a lot of attention during the day so it’s fine , but it’s not since they need their relatives to stay content they have a lot of social behaviours between themselves so separating them will be the worst thing one could do 😢

Ferrets are the extremely social animals. They always do better in a pair or more. We had 4 ferrets years ago in the early 2000’s. Such wonderful pets and funny.

There are some exceptions to this. I have a happy single ferret but out of the 65 ferrets at the rescue at the time I adopted him, he was one of only 10 who the owner thought would be happier without a ferret friend/partner. I was nervous at first and prepared to go back and get him a friend, but he adjusted and is now a very happy boy. He just prefers humans I guess lol.

Also an unspayed female would not handle being alone, so the male would act like this yes, .... However Less than 5 percent of shop owners have that little knowledge of ferrets when they try to get them into sell them... They would have told the owner that it needed a female or that they were bonded. A female can literally die without having her mail. Bonded partner during her cycle. So yeah, probably fake but good. Video none the less

Fun fact: Ferrets will show their owner their pups. If so, pick them up, interact daringly, and then gently return them to the litter. Ferrets are known to KILL said pups if they aren’t received well by the owner bc they perceive the owner as the alpha and remove what doesn’t meet their approval.

Seeing ferrets drag things away kills me every time. I had a ferret who had a treasure cave under the couch. He'd steal anything he could move. Eventually after doing laundry I could not find ANY of my bras anywhere. While looking for them, I see him dragging my phone under the couch. I had to tip the couch back to get it and that's when I discovered his little hoard. An entire bra nest, complete with a bunch of games I thought I lost as furniture.

Ferrets love being in groups! They are called a “business.” We have 2 males and a female and they are so bonded! 💚 My friend runs a ferret rescue and she has 7 of her own at her house lol. Ferrets make great pets when well cared for.

@@dagdigdug9175 Yes! We did get 2 of them from a Pet Store (which I do not recommend doing.) we got our third from a reputable breeder. The reason I am against the Pet Store “Marshall” ferrets, is because they do not live long and usually succumb to tumors or organ failures. The most costly thing about them besides purchasing, was getting an appropriate cage and the reoccurring cost of food. We use Stella & Chewy’s freeze dried raw meat. Ferrets do not do well on kibble. They have certain nutritional needs just like dogs, cats, exotic fish, etc that we keep as pets. Within the first year of owning them, between upfront costs and initial vet visits-we spent close to $4,000. Granted, that was annual costs. Now, we just worry about monthly food costs and 1 annual vet visit, which is still a lot. But with owning “exotic” pets, costs is something that most people do not consider which is why many ferrets get rehomed on these Facebook groups and shelters. So thank you for asking such a great question! 💖

I love them but taking care of them is practically a job. I had 4 for a few years and spent at least 4 hours a day cleaning cages, bathing them, and scooping shit. Too much work.

Where did you get ferrets that were not fixed? Were they descented? If females aren't properly bred while in heat, they can die from estrogen poisoning.

Him dragging his wife off was so cute. When you go to get a pet and see two of them are snuggling and obviously attatched, you should always take them both. Plus they wont get lonely while youre at work or out, they will have company. They are so cute cuddling and being in love like that ❤❤❤❤

That reminds me of my little Stella. My wife brought her home one day (much to my surprise). Stella was SO sad for the next week until we went and picked up her sister. Sadly, or rather luckily, her sister (whom we named Xena) was albino and mostly blind (and rather large for her age and for a female) so nobody wanted her. My wife only intended on getting one, but you just can't do that with ferrets. She had forgotten that and felt awful about it in the excitement of finding the sweetest little thing, we're only human (she never intended on getting a pet that day to begin with 😂). But, in the end, Stella and Xena went on to terrorize the kids and the house and lived it up. Lol. I absolutely love ferrets. They're so perfect. Like a mix between cats, dogs, rats, bandits, and raccoons 😂 I miss them both 😢 Phineas too... I wish they lived forever...

mine is perfectly fine alone 🤷‍♂️ plays well, eats well, is generally happy. not every ferret will be like this but some do great alone

@@neilronan444I've done very little research so I'm really curious about this. I've been told ferrets should always be gotten in pairs, similar to rats. I'm just wondering if its more common for ferrets to get lonely if it's just one of them or if it's only when they've bonded with another ferret?

Ever since I got my ferret she's been very curious and playful towards me. So I mean, it depends on the ferret.

If they were alone since day 1 they won’t be very affected. But still if they are paired they would be much happier. @@Strawberryanimates

Yes they would be fine if they haven’t been paired already. But they’ll be happier if paired. It’s like you can live their your friends being all happy, but with the right partner your life will be more lit up. @@neilronan444

It's so cool how he grabbed the man's finger and pulled it over to the box where his wife had had their litter of babies he wanted him to see because he was so proud of his wife and babies. And I agree with another comment it is easier to raise too just like with Chihuahuas they keep each other clean they clean each other's ears and everything else and it's a lot worse with just one that one might start smelling

The shop shouldn't have sold them separately or housed them together in the first place. Thats how you accidentally sell a pregnant animal

Why would it be "accidentally "? We know that the female pet may be pregnant when we sell it.

Even if they weren't a couple, beasts are always happier, when their company isn't only people - but their fellows too. Even if it's just two beasts - they are much happier than just one
