Thank you so much and keep up the videos as they are extremely helpful to understand what is going on with my back.

Heres what you should do: #1. Stop it getting worse. Make your core muscles super strong. Really focus on good posture. Never sit unless you absolutely must. Do not lift anything. #2. Use your mind best you can to ignore the pain. Easier said than done hey? #3. Use external ways to reduce pain. Ice Packs. Stretching. Laughter/comedy. Pills as a last resort. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for this explanation. The detail, pace and diagrams made it extremely informative. I’m suffering from my 3rd serious bought of sciatica and just had my 3rd surgery in 22 years. Had a central disc prolapse at L4/5. I was told it was most unusual. I think laughter at one’s own situation helps while waiting for treatment and appreciated the jokes at the end.

i had a herniated spinal disc l3/l4 SUFFERED with back pain for a year and then decided to go through a surgery (microdisectomy). it has really helped me, im back to normal now, life was a living hell before.. microdisectomy is not very painful. its a very small surgery. post surgery pain is not as painful as the back pain and compression. if ur thinking about surgery then you should ask your doctor about miscrodisectomy or atleast consider it an option. the pain will dissappear. :)

Very informative and graphically effective presentation. Unfortunately, no two back problems are alike, but at least the layman can understand the mechanics of the problem. I have no neurological pain such as sciatica. However, I cannot sit down for more than 15-20 mins over the last six months. The pain starts from the left L4-L5 and radiates across to whole of the lower back. After the pain, the back becomes very weak and feeble. One epidural cortisone injection has had no effect. Suggestions?

I have lower back pain and herniated disics. I have one on my left side on a nerve. When I first noticed I had pins & needles in my legs, They were stiff and I could hardly walk. I went to a Neurologist & he gave me Lyrica for the pain. After a while the pins and needles went a way. I was walking much better. They have nolt come back for a long time. I first had an MRI. I was told it was not bad enough to have surgery. I had physical therapy first which didn't help. Then Lyrica which took the pin and needles away. I was able to walk better. Had to stop taking Lyrica because the insurance co would not pay for it. Tried other meds didn't work. I then got numbness on the top of my left leg. It comes when I am standing in one place for to long a time. When I start walking it goes away. The doc sent me to pain managment & I had 3 shots in my lower back. The first two help & took some of the numbness away. It dosen't come as fast as before but still have it. The thrid shot made thinks worse. No more shots after that. The third shot gave me the burning sensation when I site & when I lay down to sleep. Have not had a good night sleep in a longtime. One of the side affects of the shot is having to go to the bathroom more often. Sometimes I have to run and don't make it. The pain doc has now sent me for Accupuncure. I have had 4 sections now. It is a slow process. Very interesting the way they do things. Each time I go the pain is different. I have not given up yet. The ccupncure doc said it willl take a lot of time to get better. I think a lot of this is because I am shoret 4'8'' & don't touch the floor when I sit. I have a stole every where I go. My arms and feet go to sleep all the time. That is my story. Sorry if it is to long.Claire Stansbury

Claire stansbury Hello I have been going thru the same thing I had surgery last year at Laser Spine Institute in Cleveland Ohio and I would do it again! There team is great there the surgery was not bad you go thru an injection shot and the shot is a mimick of the surgery so if it's just your nerve that's causing the pain as it was in my case then it's a minimally invasive procedure to clean up a little bit of bone around the nerve to make room for it so as it's not crushing it I had that done last August and what a relief I was going thru the same symptoms but I had alot of pain also. I did pain management that's a joke the 3 shots they give you under the fluoroscope hurt terrible and didn't help me at all and then they released me after the 3 shots saying there was nothing they could do. I asked them what the meaning of pain management was and they could not answer me! I have degenerative disc disease and I am now going back to Laser Spine Institute to have their minimally stabilization procedure done where they are taking out two discs in my neck and replacing them with artificial ones. Since they use the Lasers and have their high tech equipment it's alot less of a procedure then in a normal hospital. But if you don't want artificial discs then you'd have to go to a regular hospital and they either take some from your hip or they use a cadaver bone. I myself don't like other people's parts in me unless it's totally necessary like a organ seen too many shows where people get that then die bc the bone had cancer in it or whatever! And my thought on my hip if I have degenerative disc disease what makes you so sure my hip bone is any better right I mean I don't want to do it twice. My aunt had it taken out of her hip and she was in the hospital for a week with drainage tubes coming out of her neck and her hip. And never get yourself Fused, Fusion there are many options out there now! I'm only 32 so I'm doing the most minimal surgery I can! So that would be the two surgeries that they can do for you. I hope you find relief this was my only relief after years of doing everything that could be possibly done till I went there then it was a miracle. Good Luck to you I hope this helped you sorry so long alot of info!☺

go to the non-invasive route. A study out this year stated that approximately 43 percent of patients who saw a surgeon first had surgery. Only 1.5 percent of those who saw a chiropractic physician first ended up having surgery. another study out this year by the Journal of the American Medical Association said, "Some people benefit from chiropractic therapy or acupuncture. Sometimes medications are needed..Surgery is not usually needed but may be considered if other therapies have failed."

Patients with "industrial back pain" are often operated based on physiologic bulging of lumbar discs as seen on MRI. Lawyers have been known to tell such patients 'if you're having so much pain, you should have the surgery in order for people to believe you.' How often do patients with low back pain improve after surgery? Depression often causes low back pain and such patients must be kept away from orthopedic surgeons.
