Well, this exactly nailed it. Thanks, Doc! Struggled with this more than a decade...always felt better by morning. Now I know what I did and why it hurt...and how to fix it. Sure didn't hurt watching you walk thru all of it, either. Smart and stunning - you're amazing!

This appears to be exactly the source of my pain. I'm 65, retired and love to golf. Unfortunately & apparently, my playing and/or practicing 5-6 days a week may have triggered the discomfort I am having. So severe in fact, I had a difficult time walking for a couple of days. My question is, how many reps of these stretches do you recommend? Thanks in advance. New sub for you.

I use a roller to target “my” spot. Little gentler than the tennis ball to start off with. It is a terrible area to relax, especially since I’ve had spinal fusion L5-S1. It does affect my buttock, piriformis, adductors Massage helps or kneeling /sitting on my knees and trying to move my arm, sideways to the floor targets it also

Love your videos. Especially this one as I have that pain right now. Thanks for what you do. I do have a friendly photography suggestion though. It's more pleasing if the photographer puts your head near the top of the frame as opposed to the center. No sense having a great shot of the wall above you while cutting off the lower part of your body. For more info search the photography rule of thirds.

Hi Dr, I like all exercises, except laying on tennis ball. One famous physical therapist on you tube said that laying or putting weight on the rolled foam or tennis ball can damage the nerve. I dare not do that. Thank you.

It all depends on what muscle you are speaking of:) the piriformis is one to be careful of because of where the nerve lies. Not all nerves will be irritated by working the soft tissue:

Hello Dr. Ennis . Thank you for your video's . They seem interesting , and i am going to try some excercises . I have back-pain due to a hernia , but i don't want an operation . My dokter says that a spine is like a tent . If it is under tension it is stronger , meaning its muscles must be strong . Strangely i can still do jogging a bit (age 56) and my back feels a bit better then . Can i ask : for losing weight too , is it better to jog in the early morning , or does the time of day not matter ? Thank you very much . Erwin , Belgium .

Your so funny, I love your sense of humor, 😆. After the routine, where do I make my appointment with you for a back massage? 😊

Do this every day? Multiple times? I have had trouble with this area for 2+ years. Seems so simple. Looking forward to trying this.

@@rounaksaha6291 I still feeling the pain after a couple weeks I first tried. but doing these stretched over time makes the pain less than how i was before so I still do them atleast one a week now and the constant pain is not as severe

Excuse me doctor, I have a question; Should this technique be done only on the affected side? Or should it be applied to both sides of the column? Thank you.

Very nice video. I have a bad problem right now in the same spot on the right side. Does this get so bad that it can make it darn near impossible to walk? When I press on it pain seems to radiate by the groin. I've been in bed for a few days. Do you know how long it takes for this to heal? Also do you know what muscle this is?

Muscle can be that bad but other things can also cause radiating pain so it would be good to have it looked at in person if possible.
