What should he do? He is 72........too weak to do anything and in pain. Any response would help. This has been going on for years.........9! NO PILLS WORK. FROM MORPHINE SULPHATE TO HYDROMORPHONE!

Hi.. I’m thankfull for this video. I’m 19 years old and I have chronic lower back pain. I took a MRI and it showed that I have a few disc bulbs that might be the cause of the pain. I can’t bend over, but bending backwards is no problem. I’m recently going to the physio, and he’s trying to help me. I’m not too good at doing the exercises as often as I have to do because I often gets distracted by something else. I’m a professional surfer, and haven’t been surfing for 3 months now because of the injury, because I’m scared to make it worse.. I’m so scared of this and it keeps me awake in the nights often.. I’m thankful for this video because now I have a more specific idea of how the injury works and how I can prevent it to get worse.

What do you mean when you can't bend over Sir ? Like bending over to until you touch your toes or even a slight bend forward is painful?
@renesajan4 ай бұрын
Im sorry to hear about your injury. I am a 40y.o active man. I first suffered my herniated disc at age 20, and it unfortunately remains with you forever in many cases. The trick i have found is that avoiding (like the plague) aggravating the disc, if you can keep this up for a year or so, this is when it tends to heal and i feel myself returning to full health. There is no therapy (ive never tried surgery though) that is effective. Osteopathy massage is the best at relaxing the muscles which can provide pain relief. I find Chiro pleasant at first but ultimately counterproductive as it creates new imbalances. You simply have to learn what triggers a relapse and avoid those activities long enough that the (very) slow healing process can run it course. I have always been an avid weight trainer, and have learnt that twisting under load is dangerous in my circumstance. Deadlifting was once a benefit to my posture and therefore disc, but in recent years it has become a trigger for relapse. I wish i had avoided a relapse for 3-5 years when i was your age as this might have allowed it to heal fully, instead i naively thought pain was gain and did exercises to try to 'pop' it back in. As such ive never really had more than 18 months without a serious relapse. I hope this was a useful perspective and good luck.
@andrewcarruthers5333 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that. It really helps me understand what I’m going through. I have had an mri but not when my disc have been aggravated. So next time I will be contacting my physician and demanding one. This happens to me about 2 to 3 times a year and can’t walk or even bend over for four to five days.

I am 1 week into this and have pain in my lower back S1 L5 area it hurts on my left side but the pain does not go down my leg it hurts most when sitting or standing to long. I also cant bend forward. I am going to see a McKenzie certified therapist tomorrow and am crossing my fingers that it will help me. Thank you for all you information.

After watching this, it has cleared up what the word slipped disc means. The graph- Laying on my back, I have no pain. When I stand up it isn't long before that compressed pain starts and standing in any style doesn't lessen the difficulty. I feel weak and slump. Sitting upright has a similar pattern. Bending down or lifting my leg up to put a shoe, just won't do it, I have to physically grab my foot and force it on my knee. Standing back up after bending feels like I'm going to snap my back. I've had CT scans showing some vertabrae shift.

Doesn’t it make a difference if the MRI is taken in a standing position versus prone?
@PrecisionWellbeing3 жыл бұрын
Helen that is a great question! Absolutely it will make a difference. A standing MRI will firstly show what's going on throughout most of someone's day when they are standing and standing will also add more compression through the discs and so you would expect a more pronounced prolapse in a standing MRI. Here in the UK though the majority of MRIs are done lying down. I hope that helps. Best wishes, Ashley

@henrytoussant93853 жыл бұрын
Hi , I have daily lower back pain especially after standing for a long time. However doing the arch back stretches I think you called them Mackenzie only makes it worse. The only thing that helps is going into the yoga child’s pose which appears to be opposite of arching since it involved bending forward and rounding the back. When I do this pose I feel the pain as I breathe out almost getting worse, however if I stay with it, at some point during an exhale I will feel a gentle pop in my lower spine and immediately all of the Low back pain is completely gone!! Of note, I have poor sitting posture where I sit on a rounded back since this is most comfortable. Yet ultimately it is that rounded back forward bend that causes the pop and alleviates the pain. So what’s going on with me? Thanks

This was very helpful! Thank you so much for such a succinct and informative video. I had lower back pain for some time that my GP tried treating with heat ultrasound. I then went to a Physio and she gave me exercises to strengthen my back and said no lifting. But due to lockdown here my toddler hasn’t been going to childcare and so I couldn’t avoid lifting (he can’t walk yet) so it got worse and worse. Then today at the park I threw my back out and I’m in the most pain I’ve ever been in. I can’t move. I’ve got a Telehealth with a doctor tonight for some pain relief then I’ll be seeing my normal go and Physio next week to hopefully get on top of this providing it doesn’t get any worse anytime soon. Thanks again!

Fantastically conveyed, thanks! I'm waiting for my MRI scan...last 4 months have been hell and the first few weeks were so painful I have not words, still on heavy painkillers! Question I did an extreme amount of sport when I was younger, especially football, racket sports...could all this sport be a reason why I'm going through this now. I had 15-20 episodes but was fully recovered after a week, although in acute pain. This time its lasted for months, the pain was excruciating I struggled to cope!

Mine caused back pain, stabbing, burning.. until it ruptured, then it disabled me completely, unable to walk. The pain was the worst I've ever had and the rupture had compressed my sciatic nerve terribly. The surgeon said it was the largest herniation he's ever seen and the stuff glued itself to the nerve, very hard to peel off. Now a year and a half later same pain is starting again on the other side and I missed work because of it. I'm afraid it's preparing to let go in another spot but right now it is limited to back pain. I feel like I'm sitting on a time bomb.

This is really interesting and an excellent video! I am very curious as to how can the jelly nucleus substance be (retracted) pulled backwards away from the nerves by doing exercises? Once the jelly is pushed too far to the outer edge of the disc and compressing the nerves surely it would stay there permanently? how would it be possible to move back itself? would be very interested to find this out if you can explain this I'm desperate to find help as my poor Mum is suffering with this herniated/prolapsed disc and is in absolutely hellish nerve pain and can't walk properly also having awful leg spasms if she sits too long it's been like this for over a year now!!! since her back got damaged from her lifting a heavy planter in the garden (something she terribly regrets doing!) and she is now in crippling daily nerve pain constantly and having to use a Zimmer frame on high doses of morphine every day and she's losing the will to live with the pain :( she's tried light exercises and seen Doctors and Specialists who tried spinal block injections 3x times but they never worked for some reason Are there any other possible treatments to fix this other than Surgery? what's your thoughts on Prolotherapy to fix this? If you could you please give me any suggestions on how to help her I'd be grateful to hear your thoughts :) Thanks

Thank you so much for this in-depth explanation. About 2 years ago I got intense cold and I sneezed alot which led giving me very sharp lower back pains, I had no idea what it was, I checked the internet and saw cases of slipped disc but none gave a great explanation and remedy like you have done (I wish this video existed then), I took pain killers, the pains lasted for a while and hurt from my back to my buttocks especially when I walked to school, it stopped after a few months but 2 yrs later I have these symptoms again since I have cold. Do you think I should go for MRI scan or should just get started with the exercises and take drugs?

I felt a hot pain like it was 200F degrees. I thought i broke my back, but i was able to move my feet, i wasn't paralyzed! and i was able to walk. The first 3 days were painful but i could still walk, most of the pain went away, but now 3 weeks in I still feel stiff, and pain. I started taking ibuprofen and it helps a lot, if i don't take it , the lower back feels very tight and limits my mobility in terms of how far i can move in all directions. I will get it checked out, but just curious what do you think it is? is it muscle sprain? strain ? a disk problem? I can jug for a few min and i don't feel any sharp pain from my back, also if i bend forward i feel pressure on my lower back muscles like they are tight? pressure/tension/pain that limits my mobility. however if i bend backswords i feel a lot more muscle pain.

I slipped a disc six years ago. Had a terrible flareup in July 2019 and have been working really hard on healing, and then just last night it feels like it slipped again, but not as severe. Will this disc ever not be a problem for me?

Thanks for the video ! 1 question : when lying down, do you recommend chest facing upwards or downwards?

Thank you, excent video. I have been dealing with back issues on and off for about 3 years now (Im 25). Today I was sitting, went to put someting on the floor and felt an immediate sharp pain. Since then I have hardly been able to walk. My dad has always suffered from a 'slipped disc' and he thinks I might have the same problem. I was sceptical but after today I'm worried. Is there any hereditary linkage? Either way I will be seeking help now.

I got a slipped disc at age 32 just by just bending down unlocking a garage door. I wasn't at home at the time and had to drive 27 miles home. The next morning I couldn't even lift my head off the pillow. I had to stay in bed for 7 weeks flat on my back. Never known such pain in all my life. It wasn't for anower 2 weeks before I actually got to try to walk.

Can we say that when the Nucleus substance slips out and compress on the nerves, can that cause the sciatica pain too?

I have had a huge disc protrusion in my lumber spine 2015 with multiple other disc protrusion, tears multiple disc degenerate disease and osteoarthritis throughout my whole spine. A couple of days ago I lost the feeling in my right leg which made me fall when I hit the floor I have a sharp pain go through my chest and down my spine. I can’t look down as it shoots pain down my spine. I have disc bulges in the t sections and wonder if this sounds like I may have herniated one of these discs. I am in a lot of pain and not sure if I should see my doctor. Any advice would be great thanks ❤️

I'm afraid that's not enough information for me to be able to diagnose what's going on. You should go and see someone just to get it assessed properly. Sorry I can't tell you more than that. Best wishes, Ashley

In the upper back the most common issues are muscle spasm, pinched nerves, rib attachments.
