As long as the computer is reset by ether a switch or unplugging the battery, it should re-learn with the supercharger on the engine. One thing I like about these particular vehicles is you can bolt stuff like this on and if everything is within a certain tolerance it should function normally but with more power or better mileage.

This particular Ranger was one of 6 R&D trucks. We have now sold it to a fella in Kelowna and it is still going strong (about 250k on it now and still on the 3.5psi setup). I personally drove one of the other R&D trucks with a 9.5 boost on it. Just sold that one as well to a customer, it was running 9.5psi for 6 years, towed my personal camper around every year through the mountains of BC, and had 280k on it when we sold it. Close to 500 boosted Rangers all around the world now (Dubai, New Zealand, UK, Austrailia, Canada... most in the USA :).

I'm sure a twin turbo setup would be great too. We designed ours with a roots supercharger to utilize the bottom end since it is really designed to be a peppy daily driver with low-end towing torque. I would also think a twin turbo setup would be much much more expensive... and if it were even available, there would be lots of piping to fit. Not a 12hr install.

It's not carb certified in California, so simple answer, NO. In all jurisdictions tested, the kit meets the required emissions targets when kept to the stock 3.5psi setup with stock injectors, MAF, EGR etcetera (per feedback from many reporting customers). That said, it is designed for the track and is not certified for use in that state. Check your local state, provincial, or regional smog laws since they vary from one to the next (this kit ships worldwide). See disclaimers.

How well does 5psi hold up with an auto 4x4? Any issues with the transfer case?
@moddme9688 жыл бұрын
We've done extensive testing on the 9.5psi setup on the 4x4 auto. We've done lots of heavy towing and various endurance tests on the Coquihalla highway. With almost 20,000kms at that setup (4x4 with auto on a 2002 explorer), we have not seen any unusual wear. That said, the stock full-size 4-door autos have been known to have excessive heat. I would recommend installing an ATF cooler regardless of supercharging. Another thing to note is that there are several other kits out there for this engine that boost to similar levels. They have all had success. That said, we believe a roots style supercharger is the way to go as the bottom-end is what makes driving fun. You can't beat the benefits of a roots style supercharger on the street (authors opinion).

What kind of problem have you run into with this and what engine did this come off of with the thunder bird
@benjamins91213 жыл бұрын
3.8 V6 was the motor in the Super Coupe Thunderbird. If you keep boost low, like 3.5-5 PSI there are no problems, the stock bottom end isn't very strong so if you run 9-10 PSI it can become a problem with beating the engine up to much, plus when you start moving the boost up more the exhaust temps get higher. But at 3.5 for example it doesn't create any problems and it doesn't beat itself up or decrease reliability/durability Also, no tune or fuel injector/ fuel pump upgrades are needed for 3.5 PSI, in my book 3.5 is ideal, it provides the largest HP per PSI improvement compared to the other higher boost pulleys, doesn't need other modifications, and doesn't affect reliability or beat the motor up.

What would you suggest for an 04 Ranger Edge 3.0L V6? I ideally would like to improve mpg and overall performance but nothing crazy. Bolt on preferable.
@benjamins91213 жыл бұрын
The 3.0 can't really handle boost like the 4.0, if you're looking for small upgrades, full exhaust (headers, Y pipe, and high flow muffler or straight pipe if you want, no cat would be ideal, and keep it in that configuration, the 3.0 doesn't flow a lot so if you made it dual exhaustyoud lose exhaust velocity which hurts HP, stay with headers into a Y pipe), a cold air intake, doesn't need to be fancy, just needs to go into the wheel well so it's not sucking hot air from the engine bay. A good tune up would help also, fresh plugs, clean filters, etc. Gears If you want significant power then a 4.0 or 5.0 swap would be more logical than trying to squeeze HP out of the 3.0. Either that or upgrade to a half ton truck Hope that helps

Which engine do you have? The older OHV engine can (probably) take more boost due to a lower compression ratio, the newer SOCH engine will have more power out the box but may need more work to modify. They're both based on the same block, the OHV uses pushrods for the valves while the SOHC uses overhead cams and taller pistons to get a better compression ratio with the same bore and stroke.

Do you think that I should do this as well. What about the MAF, any advantage to an upgrade there?
@moddme9688 жыл бұрын
+Phil Houck Hi phil. Fuel mpg is actually better on highway. City is about -1mpg (quoting stock 3.5psi boost level). For all >3.5psi setups that have a custom tune... this will depend on the fueling that is programmed. There is a high variability in the direction people go with tuning at high boost levels so I cannot say (typically they run much richer to add safety to the tune resulting in loss of mpg on boost... but at cruise it is typically better). As for MAF, the stock one has LOTS of capacity... thing is it is a 0-12v sensor (ford ecu reads 0-5). At boost levels >5.5psi... you should scale the signal down when re-tuning by using a scaler (like MAFia diablo sport) or upgrading to a larger MAF (or one that simply outputs lower voltages... like the 0-12V MAF off of an 03' cobra). Injectors are require at >5.5psi levels. You can tune to the 5.5psi with the stock ones but you are high in the duty cycle... we sell direct plug in replacements from Ford Racing that work great. Anything 39lb/hr or bigger work great. the 47lb/hr is the cheapest option.

Check out Ranger forums handle "mikerider". Was one of our first customers over 7 years ago. Has tonnes of crazy offroad videos posted in the back country of Washington State (not far from our neck of the woods either). Cheers.

What's the retail price for this kit?
@moddme9689 жыл бұрын
Roberto Higuera Starts at $1999 usd for the installation kit. You can bolt it on and run it without modification up to 3.5psi with +50hp and greater torque gains. Has a crank hp potential of around 325 with stock engine internals (going to the 9.5 psi boost).
@Kwinnmonkey9 жыл бұрын
+Roberto Higuera if ur on a budget, some of the old buicks that have the 3800 motor came stock with an Eaton M90. U can get on at a junkyard ~$50. Its not top of the line but if u find a decent one u can save quite a bit

do you make this kit for a 3.0L
@moddme9688 жыл бұрын
+Micheal153 We have looked at the 3.0L and have a design but have not brought it to market due to the level of interest at this point.

+modd me well thank you for the reply. the more I've looked I think a turbo might be better for me. I also got my hands on solid work files for a intake manifold that allow to install an Eton m90.

Is it faster then a raptor?
@moddme9684 жыл бұрын
Not sure. Lots of Ranger enthusiasts posting videos of street racing (not condoning), but its definitely faster than the F150 with the 5.0 coyote :) At the 9.5 boost, you make more hp than the GT in the same years of manufacture.

+Raptor 700 Williams (xXMechanic2013Xx) works on every 4.0L SOHC engine. Some Rangers came with the 4.0L SOHC as of 99 I believe. But some Rangers had the OHV till 2001. Check our site at modd.me and look at our FAQ page for engine bay photos. modd.me/faqs/

Ford Sold us out! Us, Guys who love mini trucks... Ford: Midsize are too big and full size are to much money. Ford you jacked up the Ranger Price to sell more F150's. The outgoing 2011 Ranger only needed a 2.7 EcoBoost and a dash that acomidated an i-pad mini screen size.. Maybe I should build my own 2011 2.7 EcoBoost Ranger just to show Ford and Enthusiest that you can have power, trailer towing, and fuel economy in one tight compact truck.

LOL. Really not that bad for a roots style supercharger option though you must admit. Considering the change in drive-ability, towing capabilities, and fun factor... it beats all the other options available. Thing is... the setup shown requires nothing but "bolts". No tune. After selling well over 100 kits, we've seen a few people sell their vehicles (due to life change etc etc) and they can easily re-coup most of their investment on ebay or local classifieds selling their take-off kit. These things fly off the shelf used $1500 (all our R&D take-off kits sell like same day). just my 0.02$.
@jdmlegends30098 жыл бұрын
I am sure they do sell well. But I could turbo it at 4-5 psi for a lot less and no need to upgrade the ECU or Fuel Injectors. It'd also make more be more efficient and make power per boost since the turbo runs off the exhaust gases and not the engine.

3.5 psi?? -10% ur lookin at 3psi... which is like nothing..
@Its_Onion10 жыл бұрын
all im saying is at least make it the standard 8... these engines are pretty well built from what i hear and the 10% makes it ~7psi... which is almost 50%
@moddme9689 жыл бұрын
Kyle Damore I agree. But we have done lots of research and you can run only up to 3.5psi safely with a stock fuel system and stock tune. This gives buyers the ability to purchase the Moddbox kit for just $1999 and bolt on a quality salvage blower and get boosting. This is a great way to get started. The +50hp is a bit contagious though... most people go to at least the 5.5 or 8.0 pulleys as you suggest.
