So enjoyable to see old things brought back to life. If there were more repair people on the planet there would be a lot less things in general adding to the landfills and salvage yards. Sorry I blew up! ;>)

Yep. I grew up never throwing anything away. My Grandpa was in WW1, and his sons in WW2. When I was a kid he gave me a Russian stamped wrench he picked up on a battlefield in France. It was called a Bicycle Wrench. Every cutout matched a nut on a bicycle, but also worked on the artillery he towed with the mule team he cared for. I still have it. When it was new the edges were shap and hurt your hand. They've been rounded by time and being handled. I've used it to cut off water to our house (and others) when a pipe burst, etc. I'll be 60 this year and I have weird tools from when I was single digit age.

2jeffs1 it’s a shame to. I’m a collector and love Getting all the antique and vintage stuff that people don’t want
@Ellenslife8515 жыл бұрын
2jeffs1 Also remember though some of the stuff that they made later in years like through the 80s was not built as well either So you had to constantly swap parts and hopefully throw it away. That’s why they designed them like that with that sought in mine and it was more lightweight and easier to work on I’m referring to trucks and cars mainly and Riding mowers

Mustie, just 1 more thing I want 2 say. 2018 was a tough year 4 Me. In and out of Moffitt cancer Center in Tampa. Ben a rough road. And no, I do not need sympathy. But from March of 2018 when my problems with cancer started, I have been watching you collect and repair things. I looked forward to your next project, after next project..... Just wanted you 2 know you entertained me with great videos when I was really hurting. I thank you my friend. Michael M.

A mustie1 video is a reminder of how things have changed. Flooding back to me are the reminders of what everything was like. Carbies, points & relays. No wonder every second weekend was spent with my legs sticking out of something somewhere. Sump oil was always used up around the fence posts but those days are gone too. Thanks Mustie1 for giving me the encouragement to tackle the rust in a MGB in my shed.

Mustie! This is probably one of your greatest projects. The before and after is hard to believe. Especially that engine. I am constantly amazed by your dedication to fixing things - I'm a mechanic myself and I draw the line at taking the covers off of relays and cleaning the contacts inside. And yet - you make it work. An hour long video is pretty impressive as well... three cups of coffee for me! Thanks for all your hard work, and sharing it with us fools on the internet. Cheers!

Loved the Formula Vee mode; the old girl really picks up her skirts for having a well used motor hung out back. Your resurrection of that old single port brought back a lot of memories. I worked my way through college repairing and rebuilding air-cooled Beetles and first generation runaway Rabbit diesels. The guys at the shop referred to me as "Mr. Badwrench" not so much for my skills as a mechanic but for the endless string of creative expletives I'd yell out as I barked the skin off another knuckle. Thanks for the trip down memory lane sans the swearing of oaths.

When my grandfather died in Texas in about 1983, I traveled from Iowa to there with my uncle in his similar Karmen Ghia. There was a problem restarting when hot (electrical), so I had to push the car into motion so he could pop the clutch and get it running. I could barely get it moving, the rolling resistance was so high. I was therefore amazed that it got 33 mpg. It was a trip the memories of which I will always treasure, the car problems being part of them.

My dad had a 64 Karmann Ghia back in the 70's. It was also red. Shook like a banshee once you hit 70. I felt like Scotty telling Kirk she was gonna break up if we didn't back off. It had a strange starting mechanism though. You put the key in the slot which was in front and part of the shifter base. Turn the key to turn power on. Push a button under the dash below everything to start the engine. I don't think that was factory. Fond memories of that car. 12 volt system also.
