So true! I purchased my home, 8ft cellings. I have all the above and continue to remove my wainscoting. My walls, cellings, and crown molding are all painted, Dove white. I have installed celling to floor drapes and have floor-length mirrors! I removed the fan lights and installed recess lights. When we finished, the home looked larger. We only have one hanging light above our dining table, but it's not heavy in visual weight. You did a wonderful job!

Thank you so much! Your advice is the gold I have been long searching for. We recently moved from a San Francisco old Victorian house where I had to deal with the exact opposite - too high ceilings - to a ranch house with low ceilings and no clue how to make the space as beautiful and spacious as balanced. Especially, your tip on crown molding saved my life!

Excellent post! I also find that painting the walls, trim and ceiling the same color makes the height and even proportions of a room look larger, even when using dark colors.

We’re moving into a smaller home with low ceilings, horizontal shiplap with wainscoting beneath it. You can’t get anymore squat than this! Right now, it’s all orange pine. I think we will just take it all down, and put up a paneling with the vertical lines, and paint it the light airy color that I’m after. I actually like the look of this, and it will save on the time and mess of fixing the walls. Been there, done that. I’ve already chosen my drapes which are subtle vertical stripes, and they will hang above the top of the window. I can’t wait to move and tackle this fun challenge! 😊

Excellent video, Thank you. I've used some of these techniques and they really do work. I have a mixture of high ceilings and 8 ft ceilings in my home. I was wondering if you could do a video on hanging pendants for 8 ft ceilings in a kitchen and hanging lights for 8 ft ceiling in a bedroom.

@Gubers

Last video I watched on this subject said to emphasize the horizontal to take attention off of height. So instead of vertical lines you should focus on horizontal lines to emphasize the breadth of the room.
@Designchickee
@Designchickee 11 ай бұрын
Why would you emphasize the very thing that you want to minimize? 🤷🏻‍♀️
@Gubers
@Gubers 11 ай бұрын
@@Designchickee Emphasizing the horizontal aspect of the space is not emphasizing the thing you want to minimize. It’s emphasizing the aspect of the space that takes attention off the weak aspect of the space, in this case the low ceilings. Vertical lines and tall windows and such emphasize the height of a space. So it makes sense that one way to take attention off of low ceilings is to emphasize he horizontal aspect of the space.

Great tips and love the thorough explanation. Can you please discuss tips for tall ceilings. Especially kitchens, lighting on walls, above the island and should i take my cabinets to the ceiling? Im doing all lowers except on one wall thatll be for pantry, builtin oven, microwave and fridge along with an appliance garage. Are 12 foot ceilings considered tall?

Great video! Challenge: I have a wood burning fireplace whose interior is hideous. The brick inside is horribly stained and I want to cover the inside completely. Any ideas other than a fireplace cover, which still shows the inside. I'm also dealing with 2 medal horizontal medal poles inside the fire place that can't be removed. Btw, I don't actually use the fireplace

At 5:37, you say “lights that don’t hang, draw your eye up to the ceiling”; I’m not sure if you’re saying it’s a good thing OR a bad thing. Can you clarify? Thank you!

I have the opportunity to buy an affordable small apartment (40m2) which needs renovation, but has potential. ground floor with a small conservatory, the biggest disadvantage is the height of 7.2 inches... in your opinion, is it worth living in an apartment of that height

Some of the advices are somewhat useful but the whole video is a lie.. All the examples in the video are showing the rooms with actually tall walls. Just look at the scale of the doorway or windows for reference. When we are talking about low ceilings - it is about 240 cm. I would want to see how those "advises" would work in those spaces where even the rats are humpback
