Low Cost Backyard Ideas
Prodcuts:

Hello everybody - Micah Outdoor Living Guy with some low-cost options for the backyard.
1) String Lights: string lights are low cost, and they are very attractive. They light up your space adding distinction to your entire outdoor area. A low-cost option adding loads of value.
2) Simple Fire Pit: another low-cost backyard idea is a simple fire pit. You might think that's a bit expensive, but this is something you can do yourself very easily. A wood burning fire pit with brick from a local hardware store - build the base - fill the walls.
3) Backyard Movie Theatres: a low-cost backyard idea is an outdoor movie theater. No, it does not cost that much to create a DYI. I think I spent like $30 for my screen and then a simple projector - there are many different price points.
4) Water Features: another low-cost option for a backyard idea is a water feature. You can go very cost effective with these do-it-yourself projects. A flowerpot turns into a beautiful bubbler or you could do more of a meandering water feature.
5) Wood Retaining Wall: Using wood to retain the property can be a cost-effective option instead of building it out of concrete or concrete block. or some of the other material that he could have cost option for
6) Dry Creek Beds: are cool features - they are basically River Rock which you can buy in bulk at an inexpensive price point. They create a nice destination of the nice but also do a phenomenal job of handling drainage.
7) Gravel Patio: on a budget - use gravel as a patio. You can do this in a way that makes it look like it was stylistically what you chose instead of a low-cost option.
8) Hammocks: Create a little destination using a hammock.
9) Privacy Screens: Privacy is a huge concern for many people and there are many low-cost options.

😂 Here's my low cost backyard: Go to shed. Retrieve Christmas lights. Tack up on back of house. Dig hole. Put leftover scrap lumber inside. Hose down lumber with lighter fluid. Throw in match. Invite 20 best friends over. Make fish tacos and margaritas with fresh limes. You have the best backyard they've ever seen. You are a legend.

Another budget idea is building or repurposing a piece of furniture (like a potting bench) into a bar/food serving station. We created different zones in our yard (eating/games/food and beverage/lounge and conversation). Each of the zones has a heat source (different sizes of fire pits and picked fuel sources that matched the zone type), lighting, and a speaker. Using plants also makes our yard feel more thought out and relaxing.

You are amazing - Jayme Lee & friends! Sincerely! We are big here on refurbishing décor items too! The apple doesn't fall that far from the tree - BUT - each apple looks a bit different. If you can make subtle changes to the expected apple - YOU WIN! Always strive to be your "OWN-MINDS -PERSONALITY - in your life & décor. Don't forget, people will stall you . . . until you say no more. Thank you for commenting.

Setting all this up is great. Keeping them up and maintained is the PITA. If you live where there's trees and fall leaves, moss and already, how do you keep things clean? When it's time to wash your patio, how do you protect the furnitures and all that nice and fancy walls, pots and chairs? Even when you don't have trees, your neighbors might. Which means wind brings them to yours. Ideas would be welcomed.

I like the combination of gravel and large pavers or flagstone. I garden for pollinators and other wildlife, and I try to improve the environment by doing as many sustainable things as I can in an urban townhouse, so it's important to me to maintain permeability so the water can seep into the ground, rather than run off. Thank you for all of these images, they were very inspiring!

*Would really appreciate small space planting to make the area seem larger & inviting.* A 5'-6' east-side "yard" no grass and mostly shaded but I would like to see something other than straight rows of anything but it's so narrow!?! Small front 30'x20' yard, north exposure with different ideas for a couple of small trees (only grow 10' or so) and a small back yard 50' x 25' completely wooden fenced and mostly shaded from neighbors 80' fir trees. And I'm a new sub thanks to this one video! I got some great ideas that I'm going to share with neighbors (we have smaller yards in comparison to our larger homes) and work on my own place as well. My neighbors put up string lights and thought they would leave them on all night. They did it for months. Apparently they took them down for maybe some bylaw. It really was'nt serving any real purpose, and it gave their yard a creepy look anyway. I was glad when they took them down. I'd rather have lights that come on for two seconds if there is something to trip the light, but usually a back door light is sufficient for that. You can even install an indoor bell for late night movement happening, but it's usually from a backyard animal. There's usually nothing to worry about. In case of cayote or skunks, movement lights would make sense. Otherwise, a neighbor going out in their own yard should'nt be tripping on someone's lights, for privacy sake. A good backyard idea on a budget would be to plant perrenials. My favorite backyard idea on a budget is simply to keep the yard clean and free of clutter. I don't put my trash and recycling out until trash day pickup. I think the less, the better. But a few appealing chairs with a privacy screen is also very nice. ❤

We try to use a little of our tax return each year to do a small project...usually $500-600. We've also used our home depot credit with no interest and then pay it off in 3 months. My husband built a pergola over our deck, a small shed, and one year, we found "you haul it away" free river rock on the fb marketplace. We bought a $50 fireplace and made benches from the tree trunk of the tree he removed to build the pergola. Oh, and I made a movie screen from. A white sheet and pvc pipe that we can hang from the eve of our house. We have a used projector we got from a friend. Things can be done inexpensively with some creativity and elbow grease. We even had a hammock between 2 trees with Christmas lights in the trees. Need to remember when sprinklers cube on tho. Lol. Thx for this video. I have a few more ideas now.

I want to congratulate you for giving me, by publishing your ideas, much knowledge if how modern Garden Architecture accommodates patios, fire places and water features nowadays. Its about what I had had in my mind to work out and I feel that my plans are very much enriched by your videos. I have only watched a couple of your videos so I can not say much on your ideas in other parts of a garden design although I have been very keen to the idea that in a considerable small backyard its better not to make paths that form a straight line in order to get the visitors eye to want to wonder to see of what's hidden besides the curves and therefore to make him/her get further into the garden and also when I attempted to do myself, in a DIY manner, my small yards design and gardening planting I wanted to put a feature to give a sence in some parts of the end of the paths as for the visitor not to realise the approximate side of the yard, falsely thinking that it is more extended beyond the feature put at the end. Keep up the good job, mate. I would very much like if you could put a comment with your points on this.

Good ideas. I’m in the process of establishing a farm “Purple Buzz Goat Farm” in Eastaboga, Alabama. Will plant lavender, sunflowers, already planted berries, muscadine, 80K bees to produce honey, and a sm herd of fainting goats. And a small fire pit area where people could seat and enjoy, your ideas are appreciated and will be put to good use. Thank you!

NEW SUBBIE AND WHAT STOOD OUT FOR ME WAS THE PRIVACY SCREENS & THE MOVIE PROJECTOR. I'VE JUST INVESTED IN BACKYARD FURNITURE WITH A FIRE PIT 🔥. I ADDED SOME OUTDOOR SOLAR WALL/FENCE LIGHTS & WALL ART & FLAMELESS HURRICANE LANTERNS. MY NEXT INVESTMENT IS TO GET A MOVIE PROJECTOR, I LOVE SPENDING TIME IN OUR BACKYARD. GREAT 👍VIDEO.

Any tips on getting the string lights over my mud pit of a backyard to look as good as in those $100k backyards?
@FatimaMariam1
@FatimaMariam1 3 жыл бұрын
Yes... with every string light display, I kept trying to focus on how the lights were strung in a budget video but kept getting distracted by the tens of thousands of dollars of backyard landscaping and furniture they were displayed across.. That’s not gonna look that way in my yard! Nope! Lol!

@@libertyjayne yep! I’m working with some budget cost plants (really budget costs this year) bcz I had some other expenses... but also I have always tried my best to harvest seeds from the plants from the prior year and start as many for free early on! Anybody check out the price of DIRT this year, though! Dang! It’s a BAG OF DIRT! 🤦🏻‍♀️ If it’s not one thing, it will be another!

Just a couple thoughts to add to your lovely list; if you live close to your neighbors be thoughtful about where you hang string lights. It can be very invasive if your lights stream through a neighbor’s bedroom window or have the light of a thousand suns blazing over a fence. Also if you use gravel anywhere in your yard, make sure it’s large enough that cats can’t dig in it. That sweet old lady down the street who feeds all the feral cats is enemy #1 when it comes to pea gravel (no pun intended) and sand boxes.

I love it! Do you have an idea on how to extend my deck fence. It isn’t high enough and it could be a safety issue for the children. There’s a 4” gap from the metal railing.
