I too have had issues with these cheap collet chucks. To test the collet though you really need to hold the chuck in the lathe using the morse taper, not the body of the chuck as this part usually has no accuracy. cheers.

Thanks 👍. Yep, this set I got was definitely lacking accuracy on most every surface lol…good point on using the taper vs. the body to measure as those are the touch points 👍

Good work! Voiding the warranty was worth it.

Thanks 👍. Yep, it was not even usable the way it was machined so there weren’t many options for this cheap collet. Lessons learned on buying cheaper tools, but at least I was able to get it usable for the short term. All the best ! Steve

Hello there Steve, Thank you for another great video. It's all in the details and tolerances for the best results. How is your 1100cc Yamaha performing ? Do you like it better than your 750cc Yamaha ?

Thanks man ! Yep sometimes low cost stuff works fine if it can be fixed relatively easily…other times it’s better to buy a more expensive option (like the mid price range lathe chuck I got vs. the cheapest option) I’ve found 👍 The 1100 has been doing great, but I need to rebuild the carbs as I never did it when I first got the bike and got it running so the front cylinder is still running rich and I cannot adjust the air/fuel mix on that cyl. Having 4 bikes to compare to is actually pretty interesting for me. For me, the 1st Gen 750 Cafe is good for around town but that’s about it, the 1st Gen 750 Bobber is pretty comfortable, but still only good for about a 2 hour ride. The 1st Gen Stock 750 is more comfortable than the modified bikes so about 4 hours of riding gets me kind of tired, but I think I could ride the 1100 all day and still feel like getting back on it again the next morning, lol. It’s a very comfortable bike for sure and easily cruises down the road with little effort. It doesn’t go around the curvy roads as well as the bobber or 750 stock (it’s a little wider and sits differently), but can’t be beat for long cruising for sure. A lot depends on what type of ride I’m doing as to which bike I pick…if I could only have two bikes out of the 4, I’d say I’d pick the 750 Bobber for short stress reducing rides and the 1100 for long traveling rides…of course, I’ll never get rid of my 1st Gen Stock 750 as I’ve had it for ever so it would be hard to only have two bikes now, lol !

@@StevesDIYs Hello there Steve, I really appreciate your detailed reply on your Yamaha bikes of different riding feel and comfort. Ever since I subscribed to your KZbin channel some years ago, I’ve noticed how much love and care and time you’ve put into your motorcycles. I was going to ask before if you would ever consider selling your stock Yamaha but you already answered that question in your reply, lol. It’s okay because I have a project Yamaha Virago 1983 that’s still needs repair. Hopefully it will run again, maybe. Your friend from Arizona 🌵🌵🏍

@@GarysnewYT thanks man, yep, I can’t imagine getting rid of my stock 750 as it was the bike that got me into liking the Viragos years ago. Hopefully you will be able to get your bike up and running again soon 👍. Sometimes I only have an opportunity to just make quick trips around town for a whole riding season it seems, but it still gives me a way to enjoy a pretty day and let my worries go…even if just for a little bit 🙂. Thanks again and all the best my friend ! Steve
