Amazing technology! Thanks for demonstrating how precise it is! This video sold me on the Stratus 2.

thats so helpful . wow .. amazing tech these days makes flying soo much easier

Awesome video. I'm an avid fore flight user myself but have to say that I've never watched the SV during the final approach phase as I'm currently vfr only (in IFR training). The overlap video is incredible.

Excellent, Brother. Shows Foreflight can be of great use on a pinch

Great for situational awareness but don't get sucked into using it as a primary flight display! Having flown with real heads-up displays into CATII conditions, I wouldn't use it beyond verifying that my ILS has me lined up on the right runway.

100% agree.

Nice for situational awareness . Foreflight is an application that can run on multiple non FAA approved devices. The host device operating system and Foreflight have to prove compliance. Apple won’t spend any money to get FAA approved. I assume you as a new IFR pilot know that
@MalibuMikeCFII6 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, any device that is not installed and part of the instrument panel cannot ever be FAA certified. It bothers me when I hear people talk about Foreflight as their "backup instrument". No, it's not. It shouldn't be relied on when your primary instrument fails. Would it help if you had a full electrical failure? Yes, but people really have got to realize they can't depend on it. What if your window-mounted Stratus loses suction and falls off the window? That could easily send you spiraling towards the ground.

It will be really nice when the synthetic vision display can actually show something that looks less like an Atari game and a more realistic depiction of what is around and below you. Someday, you be be able to use a synthetic vision display to fly VFR in dense clouds. For now thermal imaging is about as close as we can get.
@MalibuMikeCFII6 жыл бұрын
It currently shows terrain, obstructions, airport runways, and even traffic when used with a capable Stratus. I don't know why you would really want to have anything more. I actually doubt synthetic vision will ever replace the need for an instrument rating. Further, VFR rated pilots must see and avoid other aircraft, and do not necessarily have separation services from ATC. Not sure what you meant by thermal. The displays are generated from terrain and other databases.

Thermal cameras have a hard time penetrating clouds.

Why was the runway lighting offset and then drifted to sync with the synthetic vision?
@MalibuMikeCFII7 жыл бұрын
Bill Loesch The GPS doesn't always update instantaneously and the animation can lag a little bit too. I also think the depth perception in the generated view can differ from what a fixed camera might show. My goal in the video was to demonstrate that as you get close to the runway, that it is impressively accurate.

what software do you use to record the ipad screen and foreflight ?? , Nice video BTW .
@Michaelc1368 жыл бұрын
If you connect a ipad to a mac computer you can record using quicktime, I assume he played back his flight on foreflight when he got home and recorded it to his mac

can you fly all over the world with this app for example europe ?

Only USA and Canada for aviation charts... there is a world map but its not very useful

ForeFlight has brought the Jeppesen charts to their app recently, so you can use it VFR & IFR also in Europe now.

The Fore Flight is awesome App for pilot to use. However, it doesn't have TSO approval, thus shouldn't used in the real IMC flight.
@MalibuMikeCFII6 жыл бұрын
Zhe Qiu You are partially incorrect. Part 91 operators have always been able to use ForeFlight in IMC, but ForeFlight is not meant to be a substitute for FAA-certified avionics. www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2011/august/01/avionics-the-ipad-centric-cockpit
