When I fly then it's always the same: The first two circles are the low safe and the third circle is the landing position.

When I fly, it’s vref all the way to the flare, throttle retard, (hopefully’ kiss it on then finish the coffee while taxiing in. I am jealous of anything like what you guys do that gets us back to trying to emulate birds. . . I’ve got to give it a try.

Not a paraglider pilot myself but plenty of hours in gliders. Looks like you tried to see if lift was off the brown fields, which there should be...but getting closer to the drink. Nice attempt and no-one i saw mention those power lines which you kept well upwind of...looked well thought out. Thanks for posting!

Orsom vid. I love scratching at thermals. That bump looked like it came off those houses. My best advise when trying to centre on a thermals, keep your angle of bank constant for two turns. It will help with the picture

You're right, but: 1. there are cultivated fields, I prefer to walk through a forest, not farm fields; 2. hoping for some crazy thermal bubble (or dynamic from the trees) to extend my XC adventure for few minutes :)

So let me help. First of all no one ever saved over a lake. Just stay away from all freshwater. They absorb the sun and provide no thermal activity in return. Next you flew threw plenty of lift pops according to your variometer. Not once did I see you crank it around to find the core. I don't know if you have always been lucky just flying a straight line into lift and catching ridge air with no probing?

You are right. In my flight (www.xcontest.org/2023/latvia/en/flights/detail:kenguri/8.6.2023/11:02) @16-54 I made the wrong decision. A better route would have been to go straight south. Later @16-57 the direction to the east was also wrong because the system of lakes indicates lower relief, more humidity of terrain and less probability of thermals... At the beginning of the footage, you can see that there are no big enough "accumulators" of warm air around, so all thermals here are very fragmentary and weak. The wind is blowing towards forests and lakes with no possibility of an emergency landing. Conclusion - strategic mistakes ~20 min earlier. As far as technique, there are different strategies (eg kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKbOln-bodCpjNk). I prefer to fix any minimum climb and don't risk looking around if there is no height reserve. Probably it's my fault but it works often (eg kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZaZh2xsid2Lo5I kzbin.info/www/bejne/baLEiKKCbKyZmas kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3fEqoR-mdynZpo )

I don't know why this video suddenly got so many views. It's nothing unusual: a typical story about an unsaved paragliding flight... The title fits in our jargon: "surviving" means to continue flight after a significant loss of altitude in weak conditions.
