I bought a set of these carbs for my Dads 78 T140v. He said the bike never ran correctly since new. It’s been rebuilt with the same stock carbs and never ran correctly after countless mechanics having their grubby hands all over the bike. Well I bought a set of these and the bike runs Amazing! Starts on the First or 2nd kick Everytime. These carbs are AMAZING. Thank you for selling these and making my Dads eyes and ears light up every time I start the bike and we go ride.

Thumb's up from me. Thanks for taking the time to get this up here. What with all the elderly British iron I've nursed along over the years I could probably disassemble and reassemble a Concentric blindfolded, but I still enjoyed this and even learned a few things. Thanks again!

This is a great video - really well paced, with ample opportunity to see the things being discussed, and very knowledgable input. I'll be replacing the throttle cable on my A65 Thunderbolt this weekend , and the video is very helpful. Also great to see the carb taken apart and explained . Thank you. Lee (UK)

This 'older dog' learned a few things here as my old Amal had been 'sticking'..so I took it apart and cleaned it good etc. but same problem. Sanded the slide and carb body to make it pretty decent but still sticking problem. Checked the cable and it's frayed and bent, soo. Been riding Triumph since 1970 but had a factory trained expert mechanic and friend doing the tedious stuff for me all those years so I could just 'ride.' Well, he passed away here in Rhode Island this year and is sorely missed; now, I have to learn to do stuff that I was too lazy to do myself or lacked confidence in..this is one much needed video for my '72 TR6. Just got a new throttle cable (didn't know there were two types of cable ends for the same part number or that the carb top could go in both directions!). Bike is otherwise in excellent shape (high output alternator, halogen headlight, Boyer ignition, hagon shocks) thanks to my old friend, but now it's time for my PTSD to be tested and try hard to concentrate! Thanks much, Todd, for this video..will keep your shop in mind in case I actually determine I need a new carb afterall.

I had to post this. I had popping from my port side exhaust. My fix was to pull idle mixture screw and squirt carb cleaner through til it came out front of carb. I couldnt believe it fixed it totally! Crack the throttle and she goes right off,no hesitating or pop!! Try easiest first right?

I really enjoyed the video and the relaxed way you have shown us the way to strip the carb "But One very big piece of info you did not mention was regarding the (Banjo fuel pipe nut connection ) that if done wrong can cause one hell of a problem, if you look at the "nut" you'll see as shown on the video it has the hole were the fuel enters the carb from the fuel tank !!!!! Now if you do not make sure the Banjo nut's hole is in line with the fuel intake pipe !!!!! you will not get a full fuel supply, Tip mark your nut with a marker pen (or mark lightly with a hack saw) from the top to bottom of the nut when it is in line with the fuel pipe, by doing this you will always have a nice clean fuel supply through the Banjo if the line is in line top to bottom of the pipe inlet.

Just purchased a barn Find 1972 Triumph Bonneville T - 120 and it has these Amal carburetors on them. In your video it says that if there is two Amal carburetors on that you should put it so that there's a plunger type deal on the sides of the carburetor. The one I bought has one on the left side of the engine but not on the right side. Should I make sure that both are the same carburetor?

I thought the same, a lot of old British bikes just rely on the tickler however you need to cap the cable hole if not using the choke slide as its another inlet for air

I've had my T140V for 28 years and I never use the choke to start it, although I have left all the components in place. All you need for a cold start is to tickle both carbs and it will start and run straight away

Keep in mind the technique demonstrated for changing a jet with the bowl in place has to be accomplished with carburetor off the bike. If intending to change the jet with the carb mounted, you will have to remove the bowl in order to access the jet with a wrench. There's not enough room to remove the jet, through the access plug at the bottom, with the carb mounted on the engine.

One other reason to remove it/them is that the choke slide is sprung to slam shut so if your choke cable breaks one day the slide will slam down like a guillotine and the bike will conk out immediately Not fun

Great video. Question: How can you tell that you have a carb that is worn enough to need a new replacement? I get the part about over-tightened screw distorting the shape of the carb body, and the slide sticking because that part is no longer round. Anything else that I should look for?

Great video. I have recently acquired a '72 Bonneville T120R, and wondering how to determine which type of Amal carbs it has. Are the housings marked with the Series #, Model #, or some other markings? I understand your point early on in the video about rebuilding a 40-year-old carb, but are there any cases in which you might recommend an original rebuild rather than replacement? My Bonneville is original, and I'd like to keep it as original as possible. Thanks! BP

Hi I am Kumar I have just fitted new carb ( Amal mk1 concentric 26mm) and pod filter looks same as one that picture above on my bike ( 1984 Royal Enfield 350cc ) I have few questions to ask if you don’t mind and I guess as you are using Amal carb you would be able to clarify my doubt my questions are followe 1 I don’t find any difference of using Amal carb as I was using mikarb before or Am I tuning is not right way? 2 I feel the throttle cable is just a bit hard to throttle after changed to Amal carb ( have been told by mech just because of the spring in the Amal carb is high tensed one than one was on mikarb 3 after changing the airfilter from the Indian made box type to Amal pod one which gives me ‘kisk’ ‘ kisk’ noise or is that normal with that sort of filter as I never used that before replies will be much appreciated thanks

I didn't see the Clip - throttle needle, being placed into the carbureator, it was already inside the carbureator body during the video. I saw the Throttle needle being dropped into the carbureator, but didn't see where it was attached to the clip. Without the throttle needle being attached to the clip wouldn't it be loose inside the carbureator...?

one thing that i'm curious about, is the 3rd adjustment screw. You have the idle screw and mix screw on one side, but there's another screw on the other side (inside). Its a phillips head instead of the other 2 being flat head
@daveco1270
@daveco1270 2 жыл бұрын
That's the removable pilot jet on the new Amal Premieres. It comes out with a flat head like the others, but it has two slotted lines (that cross each other) so maybe you could use a phillips's head on it as well. No adjustment needed, you just screw it in.

Did some jb weld work on my Fischer Amal 24mm for my puch 175. The bottom bolt had stripped and was leaking. Bike starts now but won't run without full throttle or pushing the tickler Petcock is working as I took tube off and fuel is flowing Maybe time to throw in the hat and get a modern mikuni but something that looks cool. Sorry I really do not have any experience with your model but there are some carb adapters available depending on what the bolt pattern needed is you may have to make one of those . You can try Sudco international for a Mikuni and possibly a flange to go to your manifold .

The choke if used correctly is fine. If left on besides use more fuel , you won't be able to start the darn thing. Until spark plugs are cleaned. The problem is the opperator, so to stop the problem you stop the opperator from ever putting themselves in that possition.😎

I'm getting my 71 T120R back to where I can ride it again after over 10 years. The previous owner put on an intake for a TR6 so it only uses one carburetor. Will this be a problem. I have a new Amal. The previous own had a Mikuni carburetor on it. I still have it. I've owned this bike for about 20 years and haven't made road worthy since I bought it. It has a bolt on hard tail and a Girder front end. I would love to get it road worth for bike nights and show.s The motor is mounted on a 1965 frame. I've saved this video.
