Reminds me of a short story I wrote awhile ago. It had everyone living in a VR space permanently, but every so often someone had to be pulled out to do maintenance on the physical world. The virtual world was so "real" that people forgot that there used to be a physical one, so when the person was selected for maintenance duty, they would simply disappear for years at a time with no explanation.

Have you tried using keyboard and mouse yet? It's much better for navigating the Web than motion controls ever will be. And computer screens? Wow, you don't need to take them off when standing up from the desk, like with VR helmets, you can glance away from them and you can even eat and drink coffee while you use them. And best of all, they don't cause nausea even after 12 hours of using them. As a programmer, I always laugh at people trying to say that VR will be used for any serious work. I know a lot of people, who swear by a simple text editor and command line, because they find more complex tools distracting. I know a lot of people who trie to use pen and paper where it's practical over typing/drawing on computer, because frequent breaks from the screen helps you stay focused. VR is completely incompatible with human brain.

This video.. proves my point of when I say "I see no more hope in humanity" When they first announced the metaverse I was scared, I didn’t expect the future to turn out like this, I thought we would go to a different direction. Plus it will make people dumber. What if everything went offline? Lets say in 2060. And the metaverse is a thing but its the most normal thing ever to them. How are they gonna survive in the REAL world. What if there is something bad about to happen, and I mean something catastrophic. The higher ups wont do anything, they will just hide and let them die unless you probably have money, or some sort of currency. I’m young, and I wanted to grow up and live in the real world, face real qorld consequences to learn lessons in life. Now I don’t even want to make it to 20 years old. Plus my generation, I was never a fan of it. And all of THIS.. trust me when I say its only the beginning. It truly is only the beginning. This got deep quick, and I might of made some errors in the comment but I’m tired I don’t feel like checking back..

Oh my... to be honest even today without the metaverse I am sitting in front of my computer all day for work and all night for gaming. And even today I feel like "There must be a life outside the computer" but it's really hard to get there. All the intereaction except with my wife and kids of course is through the internet. My Steam games are my friends. I wish I could go to a real life event again and experience life without a screen.
