I can't even comprehend being a delivery driver like this. I'd spend way too much time looking in the back of the truck for the right package, or triple checking if this is the right address for this house ect. I'd definitely mess up quite a bit and take waaaay more time than I should. Props to all the delivery drivers out there, you literally make my online purchases a reallity. Without you guys, I'd have nothing cool in my house lol. I bet the job difficulty itself multiplies by 10 during the holidays.

@InfiniteRhombus

first 5-6 months are awful and will make you want to kill yourself, eventually you learn how to compartmentalize stuff and it gets easier. I dont work for amazon or fedex but I do work for another logistics company making like $26/hr and have daily bonuses on top of it that pushes it closer to 27.50 for just driving around in a climate controlled van listening to music all day. Im doing way less work than amazon/fedex/ups and I make way more money than them, plus the stories about drivers making 50-80k a year is pretty accurate as long as you have experience, if you know how to plot and run your route efficiently you can actually end up making more than that. You wouldn't believe the types of cars my coworkers drive to work, not in a million years.

You get used to it and your scanner or phone lets you know it's the right package. My only 2 biggest pet peeves as a driver for Amazon are the terrible grouping of stops especially at apartment complexes and being forced to do rural areas at night in the pitch black dark, as you're less likely to see loose dogs and many people think you are a burglar.

I will say there are a lot more positive people I visit than bad ones. Only time I ever had a bad experience was a couple weeks ago I was entering a neighborhood that starts off flat but to get deeper into it you had to drive up a hill. So my truck is a bit older and you really gotta put your foot on the pedal when going up a hill, so I had to hit 28 mph to even get up it. I am finished at the top and then I drove down the hill, riding brakes which I generally do and this asshole dude pulls out in front of me while I'm going down the hill and he is going 5 mph. I'm thinking to myself that it's an older person or whatever. So I stop at one of the final houses and he stalls about 2 cars lengths in front of me. I deliver the final package, get in then he keeps going 5 mph til he gets to the end and pulls into the middle of the road, gets out and starts yelling at me. I ask him what's going on and he points at the speed limit sign. I ask him what about it and he said I'm going too fast. ??? Was going 28 tops and he wasn't having any of it. He threatened me that I was their 3rd delivery driver and to not end up like the other 2. I was like "dude, I've been on this route for like 8 weeks, i don't care who your other 2 drivers were, I was going 28 mph up a fucking hill with no one on the street or sidewalks. I have to go 28 to at least get up the hill. No please move so I can keep working." Dude just got back in his car and let me pass him. Unsure what compels people to lecture a delivery driver. We get and keep our jobs because we know how to drive efficiently. 28 in a 25 isn't gonna do anything. See loads of people on the daily drive thru subs at 35 mph.

I was a mailman in Germany. We also delivered packages. I was doing it from October until March so it was pretty cold and rainy. The worst thing is when you have a multi story building with families that order daily but are never home. The only one home was a grandma that almost never ordered something so i didn't want to bother her every day. The most bothersome thing about the job in Germany is the parking. You always have to risk a fine. A colleague got two fines in one month. It's already hard enough to find parking with a normal car but as a delivery driver you have a longer car and also have to park not too far away

Oh my gawd, you lived my life! I moved to Berlin in January a couple years ago and worked as a Postbote from Feb-September. It got hot as the Hölle that summer and we had no AC in the minivan. I drove from 6 in the morning until 6 in the evening, with a nice pause for lunch. My favorite part was going to the military barracks, the soldiers were the coolest people, and invited me to take my lunch break with them on the military base on my last day. The work was so exhausting but I loved my time there

I honestly didn't expect that ending. That hit me really hard in the feels! I was a FedEx driver for 5 years until I was banished forever for having a pocket knife. Although thankfully I'm in a better place now, this reminded me of the joy I would get from kids being totally stoked to see you every time. Especially during Christmas. They would freak out with joy when they see you roll up. Even if your whole day was shitty, that one stop would make the world of a difference. A little appreciation and kindness goes a long way.

I did courier job for some time and the problem was that the better you were, the more jobs you got and never got any praise or more break time for it. I actually took the heavy packages as exercise so that was fine. In the end it started going to a point where you got so many places to deliver that it was hard to get even one break. Just that tiny 15mins for eating. One time a boss went with one driver and was like "this is not tolerable!" when they had only that 15min per day, but ofc they did nothing about it :D It's pain in the end. Great video as always!

That's why you should become a quit quiter. I did it 20 years ago, long before it was a trend. Back then I realised I got nothing out of working harder than expected. As a matter of fact, I just took a bite out of my own salary, because when the job was done, there were no more hours for me to work, thus I did not get paid these hours. Instead of praising my behaviour, it was pure self punishment. Never in a corporate job work harder than expected, unless there is some sort of guarantee you will be rewarded. So I was quicly done with "the hourly wage jobs", where I was always a quit quiter. I became an account executive (basically a salesman for highly speculative trading at a firm I can not mention) and working on provision basis. Did it 7 years, made a nice bit of money, and the last 6 months of that job I became a quit quiter again, only to get paid my normal salary. I used that extra time for myself to start my own business. Now exactly 10 years ago and if I could do it all over again I'd do exactly the same. Just wished I had bought bitcoin back than, the only thing I'd change.

A long time ago, I took a job delivering ads to every home in large sections of towns on foot. After performing well... too well... they started giving me worse and worse routes. One day they gave me a route that was just houses that were far apart, all with long driveways. After about an hour of deliveries and looking at the rest of the map it was apparent that finishing the route for that day would take more than FORTY HOURS if I walked fast and took no breaks. I just took a bus back to my car and left.

As an Amazon delivery driver, I agree with this video. There are days when the route is too heavy, there are 5-story apartments without an elevator ordering super heavy things, we usually go up more than 100 stairs a day, there is no shortage of rude and ungrateful customers, the weather is super hot (specifically the van) and when we can't take it anymore, we have to deliver to a child who makes our day. My favorite part of this job is the children, I really enjoy making them happy.

OH NO IT DOESNT END THERE!!! When you get back after your route is done and they have a second route for whatever reason. When your coworker calls off from work and you have to finish there route and yours with the same time. When dispatch activity messes up your route by not adding the right details. Scheduling the pickup or drop off time at a bad time ie. Business doesn’t open for another 2 hours. You stayed on route long enough to catch the major traffic for the day. In Houston it’s 2:30-7:30 PM everything takes an extra 20 minutes. When someone purposely tries to make you hit them for insurance money. When you get pulled over for something dumb and the company doesn’t pay the ticket. When a coworker messed up a part of your delivery. Doesn’t give you the right stuff, forgot something, needs to add 1 more thing, etc. The location you deliver to is a corporate building and there rent a cops take their job to serious and actively block you from doing your job by telling you to move your vehicle, sign in, oh you need a badge, I need to call ahead for you, I need to walk with you to the client, how long you gonna be here??? And you can’t forget the abysmal pay for literally risking your life every day with no benefits or really crappy ones. I could seriously continue but you get the point…

You can of course get higher degrees and much more difficult certifications, but if you're going for entry-level this will put you way above the other guys who are starting and will give you a better chance at a higher wage. A lot of employers don't actually care about the education or the certifications as long as you can prove you know your stuff. When you don't, you go to school and get those papers lol It worked out great for me. About 95% of interactions with people are good but there are definitely some things that irritate you, like when they don't put the number for the apartment suite or having to wait for the elevator which most are always under maintenance. I don't know why but a pet peeve for me is when I hand them a package and they look at it like they have no idea what it is, and ask: "Where is it from?" Or "Who is it for?" When I ran lemonade stands with my friends as a kid, we used to get hyped whenever the delivery drivers would stop for us (not many did. It was exciting because it was a guy with a truck and it was unique) At the time we didn't know how much that excitement probably made their day. In my area especially they have difficult routes that probably create some long, tight scheduling for them.

A town I delivered in for UPS, I would do the same and stop for a drink from these young girls on their property and the mum would be outside and I would always give them like 5 times as much money then they would charge for it. Just to see them get all happy. It was adorable eh.

As part of training at Canpar, I took a ride with a delivery guy for the whole day. He was an exec and got divorced and lost most of his estate, and decided to live the simpler life. Coloured his hair blue and drove a delivery truck around. Said it was the best thing he did. He really did enjoy his job.

Delivery driver here, the thing with my company is we are not allowed to carry heavy packages. We have bonus money if we deliver fast. Some people are nice some don't. The thing with this job is to be careful don't lose any package. ( Some are super small) and driving in my country is pain.

Having worked for UPS for nine years after starting at Christmas, this is pretty accurate. However, that heavy box would have been "driver released"; if not a prohibited package, in a heartbeat.😊

For those looking to getting out of the wage cage, I recommend this path 100%. If you like delivering also consider getting a CDL for bigger wage plus benefits. It definitely changed my life for the better if you're willing to work

@@David-lt6lt I deliver milk to schools. It's very chill and the lunch ladies are usually very nice when you get to know them, and they'll give me food and random gifts sometimes. All local class B work, but it's definitely the best job I've ever had. Usually I found that the union based local truck jobs have been great so far but this place I'm sure I'll stay for a very long time

I am actually on a "friends" term with my delivery driver. I ordered enough packages for him to know me personally and I am always kind and pleasant to him. On several occasions, when I was not at home, we actually met half way somewhere, just for him not to do a useless second trip. He is a Good, Hardworking guy and deserves Respect.

I am currently a UPS driver. It really is not a bad gig at all tops out at 42 and hour, vacation and sick time, free top of the line insurance, rarely that many heavy packages, no boss annoying you. If you’re looking for something it takes a while to get picked to drive but it’s worth it
