I remember those early days of the channel. You had a video where you compared the EHB to a Steinberger, at the time I was looking for a lightweight bass and was trying to decide between the two, that video came up in a search and that was my introduction to your channel. That video was the final deciding factor for me to get an EHB. I got the 1505 with the Nordstrand pickups and have had no issues at all with mine over the past 3 years.

Fun fact I bought one of these because of you. I used the every living crap out of this thing for about a year. I even was a fan of the barts in it. I unfortunately had to sell this including some other basses and such because I was buying a house. I do still think about this bass daily I miss it a lot maybe one day I’ll grab it again.

I know what you mean. My very first bass was an Ovation Hard Body four-string. I sold it while I was in the Navy because most of my ships did not have the room for it. It was not as good as my current basses, but I still miss it because it was my first.

The pickup swap was definitely a good choice. I personally had the EHB1265ms, which sounded/played great but had fret sprout. I returned it, and went full on with the EHB1505ms. The Nordstrand designed pickups were definitely an upgrade there, as well.

I have a soft spot in my heart for headless and the 80's yo, so I had to have one. All basses should be headless so we can quit hitting headstocks into the drummers cymbals! I wish they made this in a straight 35" scale though. I just got a hold of a 1505ms and it's like a baby child of my old steinberger and 5str warrior. Love it! First bass I've picked up in quite a few years knowing I'll have this one for a good long time.

I tried an EHB (1265, I think, not MS) during the sessions that led to me buying my Dingwall. I loved the feel of it; really easy to play. Unfortunately, the standard pickups weren't as good as the Lakland 55-02 or the NG3 which were its competitors in the final shoot-out, and it felt subdued and "muddy" by comparison. Listening to your one with the Aguilars makes it clear (no pun intended) that buying it then upgrading the pickups is a viable option (did that with the Cort which was my entry point for bass ownership).

This bass has always sounded great when you play it. Been looking for a new bass to join me on my couch. Looking for something that can get a tone close to the variety of KZbin clips I play along with. This bass seems a good fit for the sound and budget. Hard for me to justify the price of a NG3 or the like. Always love the content ty for the update on this bass. Ps: would like to see a comparison with the EHB1265MS.

It is rare that a mass produced bass comes with stainless steel frets, most pricey basses come with just nickel silvers. I'd say that a 36" to 34" multiscale would have made more sense than going down to 33" that is a shorter scale than average but not quite a 30" short scale.

I have one, and I think it actuallty sounds like a vintage bass, which was one of your original comments on it... do you think it's the voltage bump that changed yours to the more "modern sound" you describe? I did that switch (as well as the switch to Aguilars), and well, I still think mine sounds more like a P/J blend than a Stingray or other modern preamp-equipped bass. Sounds good in my opinion, but regardless of the eq opportunities, I still can't seem to give mine the presence of a "modern" bass. The weight and other qualities you describe are the big benefits for me. Had to put in a few hours leveling frets and tightening very loose things, but in the end, I don't think I'll ever let it go as a backup/practice bass.

I already have this same bass for 3 months, good weight and very comfortable and fun to play, However, i think this bass is much more easy to produce unwanted rumble (i guess is sympathetic ringing) and required me to pay extra effort on muting on both left hand and right hand floating thumb. Now i even use my plucking hand ring and pinky finger to enhance muting in recording. I have 8 other basses (solid body) and none of them have this issue, general muting is enough to keep the track clean. Pros: push your muting technique to level up Cons: need a noise gate with medium high threshold to prevent accidentally rumbling in live.
@PorchBass
@PorchBass Жыл бұрын
I think it's the angle on the back of the bass makes muting slightly a different angle - the bass always leans up at you a bit

Hey there :) I've had the 1505 for 2 years now and the 1005SMS for some months and I've been having the same issues. Leveling up the muting hasn't been enough for me, it's pretty annoying and there are notes that really vibe differently. I really love how comfortable they are, but they have some sound issues and I'm considering selling them both.

I really want to try one of these, but no one ever has them in my area. I have seen a couple used examples online that have had a break on the bass side of the neck near the nut which gives me a little pause. I wonder if that might be user error; maybe someone put too much tension on the B string. I do wish more headless basses used a system like NS Design where the string ball goes in at head, but if this works nicely, I'd probably be fine with it.

I think the reason Ibanez made the EHB MS series is to compete with the .strandberg* basses, since they're near identical designs. Personally, the only thing that has strayed me away from getting a EHB1xxxMS is the multiscale isn't that drastic. obviously everyone who has the R&D is trying to cash in on the DIngwall trend, and Ibanez falls short because the B string isn't at that magical 37 inch scale that led Dingwall to designing it that way in the first place (the clarity of the fundamental note increases the closer you get to 37 inches). None of Ibanez's multiscale basses get close to that number, therefore leaving me either buying a Spector Dimension, LTD B-1005MS, or a Dingwall Combustion, all of which are now above $2000USD brand new.
