I found yoga in my early 20’s. I started practicing through youtube after a gall bladder surgery. I practiced here and there and started noticing how it helps with my anxiety and from there it stuck forever 🙂↔️🫶

i wish i knew about it when i had my gallbladder surgery,i was in dire pain when i woke up with pancreatitis and had to stay in the hospital for a month fighting for my life.,but i thank God i have it now

I have a similar experience with my gallbladder! Prior to removing my gallbladder they needed to go in through my throat to remove the gallstones. In doing so they cut my liver. I ended up in the icu for a few weeks receiving blood transfusions and multiple attempts to stop the bleeding. When i was able to go hone my body felt broken. It was hard to move because i wasn’t allowed to stand or stretch the entire time. I got home and instantly searched for yoga. I found yoga with melissa, sarah beth and fight master yoga. They were all great in my recovery and a big part in why i stuck with yoga. From there i started to notice the impact it had on my anxiety and it remained a regular routine day to day ❤️ im so happy we can connect through yoga and share similar journeys so that we arent alone ❤️❤️❤️

I love the addition of the water and birds chirping. I used to sit by a stream during one of the lower point in my life and let the sound of the water and the birds sooth me. Hearing this today was so healing, it was such a beautiful experience to get to revisit these wonderful sounds of nature from a safe and happy place. Just as healing today as was it back then. ❤

I’ve always known yoga is the thing for me but again I’ve never been consistent because I’m just not perfect. Then I found you and it finally clicked. With the first lock downs in 2020 I just decided to try yoga one day and found some videos and started. Then I found Bird's 30 day 5min yoga challenge and I said well I can do 5 min every day. So I was going to do 30 days, but I realized maybe 60 is a good number, which became 100 and then I realized I never set goals for myself because I didn't believe I could or even was worthy of setting goals. So I set a goal for doing yoga every day even if just 5 minutes for 365 days which I did from 20 May 2020 - 20 May 2021. I reached the first goal I ever set for myself for a year. Since then I don't do yoga as much as every day and at times I slack for a bit but always come back because yoga helps my ADHD brain focus on the here and now, and it definitely helps with my anxiety. Through all of the past 4 years when things get hard in life I turn to yoga to self soothe and exercise. One last thing is that I have scoliosis, and when I started doing yoga my back would not go flat for poses like happy baby and hugging the legs into the chest today because of yoga my back is flatter. Thank you Bird for being there for me on the internet whenever I need yoga and calmness. ❤

I did it over the years on and off just to try something new and to help recover when I used to run, but I took it up more seriously a few years ago to actually help with a partial body nervous tic as well as to lose a bit of weight and gain flexibility. I had a year of extremely difficult life experiences way back, and the stess came through as a tic as well as comfort eating. It's mostly gone now as I've worked through the emotional stuff and life worked itself out, only happens occasionally as I start to fall asleep at night or if I have a terrible day (or watch a really scary movie 😆) but working my muscles and then relaxing them helps to keep it at bay. Also the endorphins from the exercise prevent the stress chemical cortisol from triggering it. There are people who have anxiety way worse than I did, that's just how it surfaced for me when things were pretty difficult. Many people have their tics their whole lives, although in my case mine was mostly temporary. I don't talk about it much simply because talking about your tics can trigger them (so if you're starting to get any for the love of God stay off those 'mental health' Tiktoks) but if anyone develops one, here's some advice; 1. Go to a doctor or clinic just to rule out any further health issues, just asking a doc helps you feel better and more empowered 2. Don't feel bad if it starts up, just take a few deep breaths and lightly flex the muscle or area that its happening on, that sometimes stops it. Just flex, unflex, flex, etc. Doesn't have to be intense, just activate the muscles. If you're in an uncomfortable place such as at the dentist, try rhythmic breathing, so breath in for four seconds, hold for five, exhale for seven. Really works, especially as a preventative. 3. Hydrate!!!! Water with lime sqeeze is great, plain water is better than nothing, try to avoid sports drinks as the dyes and artificial sweeteners can make anxiety worse (who knew?) But even that's better than only drinking coffee or sodas. 4. Avoid overly processed foods in general. They don't directly affect a tic of course but when you eat crap, you feel like crap, and therefore have a much lower threshold for stress. 5. Sleep. Actually sleep. Throw your phone into a drawer for the night at a normal time, swich to cozy low lights while you get ready for bed, drink a cuppa chamomile tea if you like, and just sleep. Even resting in the dark is better than staring at a glowing stress rectangle. 6. Take vitamins-- dont start knocking back those luxury vitamins by the handful, that's terrible for your liver. But keeping up on your body's needs will lesson the likelihood of it deciding to try to tell you something is wrong. My doc saw I was a bit low on certain vitamins so I keep up with them and take others when I think I have a cold etc. 7. Start journaling or even just making lists and examine what circumstances in your life could be contributing to your anxiety. Not to whine about things, although venting can help, but rather so you can figure out actual actionable steps to rectify them as best you can. If you're religious or spiritual, stay in touch with that higher power because your strength comes from somewhere babes. And no matter how dark or angry your journal entries might be, always end them with a nice anecdote, memory, joke, anything to end the moment well and feel resolved.
