I was there back in 1987, absolutely loved it. Think it's time I went back.

It's been a few years since we were there too - not as long as you, but yes, time to go back! Do you have any other favorites along highway 395? We love the whole area!

I stay atLower Lee Vining campground yearly. It’s such a gem. That river swells and even on a dry winter will have a strong current. Please watch your kids and pets. Within seconds they can be swept away. Glad this pup was fine. Labs are stubborn sometimes 😂❤
@TravelSmallLiveBig Жыл бұрын
It’s a great spot! Excellent advice! This was our old girl who sadly is in pup heaven now. Our “replacement Lab” is 97% more stubborn & defiant than the old girl. This one is always on a long lead anywhere near water - unless it’s a pool 🤣!

Staying in Lee Vining is great because you're right the middle of everything! That's really great place to stay for $14 a night. Lexie is crazy! I'm glad the river current didn't sweep her away.

Yes ~ this area was great! I just wish we would have had a week to go explore everything... never enough time. I thought it was a good price too. That dog... usually she just plops down in the slow water. Not sure what she was thinking. She is a strong swimmer, but I was worried about what was down stream or her getting a paw caught. Knucklehead...!

Wonderful camping w great fishing. Taught all my kids to fish there and had years of amazing family memories. No hookups but a sewer tank pumper stops in once a week
@TravelSmallLiveBig5 жыл бұрын
We thought so too! We didn't fish ~ just not enough time, but we would love to go back and spend a week or two. That is nice to know a sewer tank pumper comes through ~ I was wondering what the camp host did and now I know! Thanks for watching :) Heather

We love no reservation campgrounds! Another great find👍 So pretty. We usually try to stay in Twin Lakes area but it can be a zoo! This place looks nicer. I do same thing with small bills thanks to hearing that tip in one of your other videos...came in handy this summer for sure Well done Heather👍
@TravelSmallLiveBig6 жыл бұрын
We do too! We got lucky and found a cool site ~ relatively private and very quiet. Definitely easier to keep small bills and put those in an envelope than writing a check! Thanks for the kind words Jane!
@TravelSmallLiveBig6 жыл бұрын
We have never been to the Twin Lakes area and really enjoy the no reservations places. Tinnemaha, Taboose Creek & Tuttle Creek are all good options a bit South of here. We were there in March (freezing!) so had no trouble getting sites. The Alabama Hills was great too!

Lol I know all about bad dogs (our younger dog, Paco, is constantly scrounging for anything he deems edible while out on walks and his nose is so low to the ground he often gets it) but you gotta love em right? 🐶😍 Looks like a great spot! You mentioned no water there, where did you guys get water then? I love the 395, we're thinking we'll meander up that way this coming Spring. Cheers! -Brad
@TravelSmallLiveBig6 жыл бұрын
Hey Brad! We stopped here on our way back from Oregon so had water in the trailer tank from our last stop. We also carry a few 5 gallon jugs in the back of the truck and always fill them. We live on a boat so really know how to conserve water. Yeah, these dogs! Lexie is my absolute best friend (sorry husband Jim) and she is actually a great dog ~ this was just a bit scary as I hadn't walked down stream yet so wasn't sure what was beyond where she was. She is pretty good about not eating stuff thankfully! Let us know if you are heading up that way ~ lots of suggestions! :) Heather

Never been up that way and was wondering how much luck I would have to actually find a campground right outside of the National Park. I just don’t want to tow 8 hours and have no where to stay. Looking to travel anywhere from mid July to mid September. Please share your experience of availability with a 17 foot trailer.
@TravelSmallLiveBig5 жыл бұрын
Leno Torres Hi! We were there mid-September and has no problem getting a spot. There were plenty of empty spaces. We parked the trailer right inside the entrance then I walked around to select a spot. We try to arrive mid-day - we did have a few other campers come in after us, but there were still spots. I think after Labor Day you will have no problem, especially with a small trailer! There are also a few other campgrounds further up the pass. I think you will be good!

Thinking about staying here for my weekend Yosemite trip next month! About how far of a drive would you say it is to get there? Google maps is saying almost 2hrs :/ great video! Thanks!
@TravelSmallLiveBig4 жыл бұрын
We enjoyed it! I'm not sure how long it would take to get up the hill ~ we stopped here on our way back to Southern California from Oregon. Besides Yosemite, there are a some other nice side trips: Mono Lake, June Lake Loop ~ it's a fabulous area! There are a couple of other campgrounds a little further up: Moriane, Cattleguard & Aspen Grove. We haven't been to those however. Enjoy!

I'm not sure - might have to go up to June Lake Loop to one of the private campgrounds. We have a shower in our trailer... if you were hardcore, you could rinse off in the creek :)
