Hi Guy's! Here's a link to a few tools that will make the job a heap easier! Drain Pan - amzn.to/3GbosqE 5L Measuring Jug - amzn.to/3xRfyM8 Oil Transfer pump - amzn.to/3diZObl Oil Transfer pump option 2- amzn.to/3ok1qrv Socket set - amzn.to/3diFfvw Allen Key set - amzn.to/3GeoDRZ OBD2 Scan gauge2 - amzn.to/3ryAJkP P.S- It's also a great idea to change through the gears a few times after changing the fluid to circulate the fluid through the valve body. Change through all gears holding for 5 to 10 seconds each gear to flush out the valve body before and after changing the oil. Cheers guys! Thanks a lot for watching :)

Hi Nick, my Dmax is due for 105 000km service. Your videos on oil & filter, fuel filter replacement and bearing re-grease are all part of that service. Thanks I find them very helpful. Checking and adjusting valve clearances and brake fluid replacement are also part of the 105 000 service. Can you do videos on those processes also please. Thanks Andre - South Africa

My personal tip, if you ever use your oil fill pump for other fluids such as differential and transfercase oil, make sure you thoroughly clean it out before using it for ATF. If you do all your servicing yourself regularly consider getting a second pump just for ATF. Seems like a bit of a faf but they only cost like $10, and just avoids any possibility of contamination. Another thing is call you local dump/transfer station to see if you can drop off the used ATF oil, some only accept engine oil. If you're in the country a lot of the time your local mechanic will gladly take it. Never ever pour it in the drain.

Great vid. If you have a front mount trans oil cooler, you can change the ATF oil by doing the following: 1. Put the car into neutral. 2. Take off one end of the oil cooler hose and put into an empty bucket/container of at least 5L. 3. Turn your car on and it will pump out the oil, approx 4L before it starts to spatter out. 4. Turn car off, refill with fresh oil & repeat 1-2 more times until fully flushed. My car has a filler hole in the engine bay so makes it super easy to replace the ATF fluid. This gets all the fluid from the torque converter and sump aswell.

Thanks very much Nick, I agree you are a life saver, your instructions will work for my Navara too. The Nissan workshop manual was basically useless for the AT. I don't have my MU-X yet but I am sure it will work well. Your videos are worth more than just about anything else out there as far as instruction and useful information goes, so very much appreciated indeed. There are even experienced mechanics that don't know about your trick on how to get the correct AT fluid level. Neat, that will take away the guess work next time I do my vehicles. (your method it explains the jinglish found in the workshop manuals). Shall be watching the transfer case video next, then about LEDs, etc - all very informative, all very helpful!

You’re making the transmission fluid change more time consuming for yourself & contaminating new fluid the way you’re doing it. What you did initially with the first drain & refill is correct, but then what you need to do is remove the at fluid outgoing hose where it connects to the radiator. But first grab an empty 3L milk container and measure to the 2L mark and draw a horizontal line on the container, place the container in a bucket or something so it won’t tip over & just incase an accident happens & you over fill it. Place the atf hose into the bucket. You can extend the length of the hose with clear plastic tubing if need be. Now start your car & cycle through a few gears & back to P. Quickly jump out and check the fluid level. When it’s about to reach the 2L mark, turn the car off. Pump 2L back onto the car or the same as what came out & repeat this process until the fluid starts coming out clean & bright red. The system holds 10L, so cycle 10-11L through. Deliberately overfill by 1-2L to make sure you definitely have enough fluid to drain out of the check level hole. And then follow whatever process you use to make sure your AFT is at the correct temp to remove the check level bolt. The have the ATF reach 50 deg you’d need to idle the car from cold in your garage for around 15 minutes in Park. Takes a while to get ATF temps up. Holden Trailblazer owners out there can access the exact ATF temperature reading in the settings on the dash cluster. The Prados have a brilliant procedure you can follow without a scan tool to make sure the ATF is at the exact correct temp. You start the car & bridge two different diagnostic ports up in the driver’s footwell with a metal paper clip (top row of pins is 4th from the left, bottom row is 5th from the left), then that puts the car into service mode with the dash cluster lighting up randomly & rapidly like a Xmas tree, then you cycle one gear per second from P down to 1, then back up to N, then N to D and back again 6-8 times until the red ATF light comes on. It’ll flicker then go out when the fluid temp is between 43 & 46 deg Celsius (or 45-49, can’t quite remember) which gives you a minute or two window to get the fluid level exactly right.

I know this is a year old now, but what about taking the return line of and draining that (while in gear for a few seconds) it would mean you don't dilute your new oil as much and probably means less bottles? Just curious.
@LowRangeNick
@LowRangeNick Жыл бұрын
You can rig up hoses to the feed and return, suck fresh oil into the system and drain old oil out. It is a little more difficult to do and setup and if you stuff it up you could damage the transmission. As your transmission wears in over time and learns shift patterns according to oil condition. If you flush all of the fluid out for new fluid it can sometimes cause issues. This is a safer method to avoid any issues. It increases the oil condition but doesn't change it completely. 🙂

@jarradgreen6741 for that setup you will want to drain fluid and catch it in a container with measurements. Then fill through the dipstick tube the same amount. Then repeat if fluid is still dirty. Then get up to operating temp and check fluid is on hot mark on transmission dipstick.

Top up the transmission with some more fluid until it is trickling out of the check bung hole with the vehicle running in park. The fill bung is the 24mm bung right up the top.

Hi nick. Would a filter and fluid change with a period of driving say 1000km before another change be worthwhile? Or just 2 changes in quick succession? Does that make sure the torque converter is flushed?
@LowRangeNick

You can do it either way, but within 10 minutes of driving it will be enough to circulate the fresh fluid.

@@LowRangeNick and is it all the exact same process from auto to manual transmission?
@LowRangeNick
@LowRangeNick Жыл бұрын
@JL_Endurance_Running it's totally different. Changing manual transmission oil is really easy. You have a drain bung and a fill bung 24mm bungs I think. You drain oil from drain bung, refit and tighten. Fill oil from fill bung hole until fluid comes trickling out fill bung hole. Refit bung and tighten and your all good.

I’m fitting a trans cooler and getting the auto transmission specialist to take care of the fluid top up, he was saying I may as well flush it while I’m in there. My 2015 MUX has 132k on it and I serviced not flushed the auto transmission at 120k, not sure if it was ever serviced before this as I bought it at 105k. Do you think a flush with these numbers will cause issues?
@LowRangeNick
@LowRangeNick 2 жыл бұрын
You should be fine to do a flush considering the kms are reasonably low and you have put fresh fluid in it already.

Hi Nicko...Question.. I got a 2013 Dmax with manual transmission. I have used caltex delo 400 15W=40 for the engine oil the whole time for the engine oil services. About to do a manual transmission oil change and have noticed in the Isuzu book that they recommended the exact same oil for the manual transmission oil. Is this the same oil and what are your thoughts on using it mate. Cheers👍

Hey Nick! I just checked it on castrol net lube and it is recommending 5w30 oil. The 15w40 may be a little thick for the manual transmission.

Hello Nick, i have recently purchased an ISUZU D-MAX 2019 model. I spoke to the car dealer and they say that the only ATF that i should use is the (isuzu d-max rt66 atf wsi) which is imported from Indonesia or so...! I highly doubt the dealer statement, would you confirm that could use the castrol transmax dex iii multivehicle??? Thanks in advance

It would be a good idea to use the dealers genuine fluid but you can also use penrite multivehicle LV fluid.

@@jamestanner9198 If you change the oil every 60k you will only require 2 bottles each service, so around $100. But yes if you can afford to pay for a proper flush that is the best option. Unless your vehicle has very dirty transmission oil or has never been changed in over 150k, in which case a flush can cause issues.
