This is a truly exceptional video, I've done suspension work on my trucks before and never had a better example. I'm doing this exact same install next month on my Tacoma, after watching I'm much more confident in the procedure and have no worries. Thanks!

OME 2005+ 2nd/3rd gen Tacoma springs need to be modified to work properly off road. The problem area is the rear of the 2nd and 3rd leaves extend into the shackle and are in very close proximity to the shackle. Under NORMAL leaf spring operation while articulating, the lower leaves slide outboard from beneath the main leaf, hitting the shackle. Even worse, when the lower leaves exit the shackle, they pop further outboard, and when the axle goes back to horizontal, the lower leaves jam into the shackle, causing dangerous binding forces and terrible noises. OME evidently took their design from the Hilux and Land Crusiers and didn't full test the fitment with the Tacoma, the ONLY Toyota that OME make springs for that has a shackle in tension. Very poor execution OME/ARB

Great and all but forgot to put non-petroleum based grease on the polyurethane bushings. It is very important to put non-petroleum based grease on most of the surface of the polyurethane bushings.

Needed a little more heft in the rear of my gen 3 Taco for towing a camper and all our gear, but resisted installing a heavier spring pack like this. Instead I installed an add-a-leaf. Three months later, I've installed these springs because the add-a-leaf was kinda scary. I was ready to live with a stiff ride, as these have one more leaf and helper than the stock pack. MAN, WAS I PLEASANTLY SURPRIZED!!!!! The ride is smooth, but feels stout and capable. The truck handles better than with the stock springs as they are firmer and the Poly bushings make it feel nice and tight. I hooked up my trailer and the porpoising was no more! Sad I wasted money on the helper springs, but glad I took the plunge and went the right way. Falling in love with my truck all over again!!!
@bombdawg5916

@@asteiner9181, you basiclly had the stock pack working , rubber bushings and all, until you hit the helper. So you had they extra weight twisting the stock pack around, and the softness of the rubber bushings adding to the sloppy feel. Then, when you did hit the helper, you HIT the helper, lol. When I put the heavier spring pack on with poly bushings, it was crisp, solid feeling and they weren't stiff as I imagined they'd be. At any load, and any road condition, they perform smoothly throughout their travel. After all this time, I'm still extremely glad I spent the money and did it right.

What has Toyota done to the leaf spring mounts and why? I'm baffled at the system' they created, and can't figure out why they want to hurt us? It seems like they severely stunted the ability to modify the vehicle easily and reliably by doing this.

George, the tire and rim size is listed in the video description, but we will provide it here for your convenience: Tire Size: 285/70R17 BFGoodrich KO2 Wheel Specs: Method NV 305 Matte Black, 17x8.5 - Back Space 4.75” In regards to assembling those struts that we call them shock & spring assemblies. When you buy the shocks and springs from us you can also buy an OEM quality upper shock mount (sometime called a strut mount) and we will assemble the spring, shock and upper mount for you for free. It is a much better option. I will include the link to the upper shock mount we supply below. I realize this will not help you at this point in your install but it may help someone else. Thank you bringing this up. It really is an important issue; not just for the hassle aspect of it but the safety as well. Thanks for the advice. www.lowrangeoffroad.com/2005-toyota-tacoma-2007-fj-cruiser-2003-4runner-suspension-strut-mount-each-tac-sp-sm-05.html

@lowrangeoffroad1

I checked with our Toyota expert here. He said, "he would want to measure his drive line angle to see if he needs a shim to adjust the angle at the rear axle or a larger carrier bearing drop". I’m having vibrations after installing this kit on my 2018 Tacoma, getting 2.5* shims put on to remedy but you’ll have to take measurements to know what degree shim you’ll need, one thing I’ve read though is you don’t want the difference to be 0.0 because then the u-joint won’t circulate grease properly, hoping my angle will be about 0.5 different between the angle of the drive shaft and the pinion bearing, I’ve heard the carrier bearing drop helps some people but didn’t help me at all

Great install video, I will definitely be using this for my OME spring when I decide to upgrade. I got a few questions though. 1. I see that most people only install the rear OME bushings, why have you decided to replace front bushings as well? 2. Would you recommend grease or super lube inside the bushing before inserting the sleeves? and would some super lube inside the bushing reduce or potentially stop Dakar squeaking problem?
@lowrangeoffroad1

The bushings come with this kit. We installed the lift according to Old Man Emu's instructions. You can use super lube for your bushing. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.

lowrangeoffroad I see that the kit comes with the carrier drop. but, I don't see a diff drop for the front diff, which most of these kits come with to fix the front axle angles.
@lowrangeoffroad1
@lowrangeoffroad1 7 жыл бұрын
We do not supply the diff drop kit with this OME Lift Kit because we consider this aspect of the lift to be optional. We have no evidence of the axles exceeding their range of motion. However, it would not be a waste of time or money to install the diff drop kit. It would certainly make those front drive axles, cv joints and boots live a little longer. The diff drop kit cost only $29.00. Here is the link: www.lowrangeoffroad.com/2005-2017-toyota-tacoma-2003-2017-4runner-2007-2014-fj-cruiser-lexus-gx470-gx460-differential-drop-kit-lr-2gddk.html. Also, here is a link to a video which includes how to install the diff drop kit on a Tacoma: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKnGlWWaqs1kna8. Fast forward to the 8:00 minute mark to see these instructions.
