What's not to like. Each car game has incredibly high levels of quality engineering, art ,imagination and hard work put into it. Not to mention hundreds/thousands of hours. I mean, you can't say you're an animal lover if you hate everything except Elephants and Tarantulas.

I look at it like this, back then the Hot-Rod culture was more about performance then style. Whereas the Low-Rider culture was more the opposite

That's why it was great growing up in SoCal, it's not us vs. them. I love traditional hot rods, customs and lowriders. The pride and talent is apparent in all styles of car customization.

I’m Chicano and I prefer lowriders but I’m not into the murals on cars I draw that stuff on canvas or paper I also like hot rods but the flames and skulls are played out. I prefer a solid color paint job on lows and rods. But in America to each his or her own without hating anyone because they are just cars. Love , people and peace is far more important.

I'm digging The Downshift, but I feel like you guys are well-informed on the hot rods/low riders and not too informed on the tuner/hellaflush/jdm scene. I'm not complaining, but this episode was MUCH better than the last episode. Give the hellaflush/tuner scene the same detail and knowledge that you put forth in your hot rod/low rider episodes and I think you'll get a very well-rounded show. Anyways, good job on the new motortrend channel.

In Texas all customs have some horsepower upgrades. Not uncommon to see a donk with a 350 pushing @ 400 hp. Kinda unsafe to go fast on 26" though

People put a lot of effort into a car they love. Some people have unlimited budgets & some have very limited budgets. I for 1 like hot rods & can't help admire the effort that goes into the lowriders. I like some of the lowrider styles, then again it's a case of different horses for different courses with all cars for all people isn't it? If I had the choice between a lowrider & a hot rod I would choose a hot rod.

I completely agree. But, the camber thing has caught on with the Euro and JDM crowd, but they don't use them for much more than a show car. As you said, when done properly, any car can be appreciated.

The lowrider guys were being more open minded about the different styles of building. That white dude was kinda bashing on the murals and the velour interiors and stuff. I personally wouldn't do a velour interior on my 41 Ford pickup or my 74 Buick, but I can appreciate the amount of work it took to create those crazy looking interiors. I'm not a 13" wheel kind of guy either, but I like the way some of these guys' cars look. We do it cause we love cars, I don't see why there's so much rivalry

So, we're seeing a bit of go in the low riders and a bit of show on the hot rods. Hot Rod = we like burnouts, we'll paint the car if it compliments anything else done to the car. Low rider = Let's do something wild, performance isn't the goal. I think sleepers are going to see a bit of a surge in the coming years. 700+ inch engine in a pickup truck, wide mudflaps to hide huge drag radials, super quiet exhaust. Stock looking wheels.

I grew up on Harley's Hot Rod's and Lowriders, I own two vintage chevys right now.. I am a lowrider, but there are other style lowriders that i dont like. (example) I like stock colors and two tones much more than crazy flakes, patterns, pearls and fade's, I dont like lowriders that lock up all high in the air but they lay down no lower than stock height!

It's pointless to you, but many have grown around them, and it's part of their heritage. Any sort of modification, including going fast in a straight line, can be pointless, and to a lot of people outside the car culture, it actually is. Different strokes for different folks. As emission laws get tighter over time, you'll see a lot more style than actual "hot rods"...Japan is a prime example of where trends are shifting to. In 20 years we'll be dumping hybrids on bags...lol

This isn't anything new we've been doing this since 95' I would get ridiculed and harassed by my fellow lowriders for doing Donuts, fiqure 8's and Hi performance shit in my 64 on Daytons. I have always been heavily influenced by the Muscle Car performance aspect but loved the look and style of the lowrider world so it made sense for me to combine the 2. Build your car the way you want and not the way others think it should be built. Been opening hoods since 95' Impalas C.C. East Bay All Day

I'm more of a late model gasser kind of guy, which is guess is fairly closely related to hot rodding, but I wouldn't hesitate to park my car next to a low rider or a hot rod. I love looking at 13 inch wires but I sure wouldn't want them on my car, same with just about anything they'll put on a stereotypical hot rod. I love the look of a rat rod too, but I'd hate to have to live with one.
