Mr James Baldwin was/is a literary genuis .. He was a standup man,, took no prisoners.. Loved him always. I thank my late father for introducing him into my life at the age of 16.

Baldwin never put his sexuality above being a black man. He didn't hitch the LGBTQ struggle to the struggles of black life. Clearly, he placed one above the other in terms of personal importance. I respect that!

No one said the black experience wasn't as bad as the gay one; we need to work together and focus on solidarity, not childish prejudice surrounding abstract american masculinity. Obviously slavery was worse but why focus on division between people with a common objective and common foes?
