I realize I am two years out from the build, but one major issue needs to be pointed out: you are not a model builder; no, you are an artist who builds models. Your ingenuity and choice of ad hoc design throughout is equalled only by your knowledge of material options throughout. It is no understatement to say that I was stunned by your skill-set throughout the build. Further words honest escape me! 🙂

Very nicely done sir. I bought this model this past spring at the IPMS hobby show in Hamilton Ontario from the guy who owns the company. I thought that rather cool. They make wonderful scale models. Very good quality, like Wing Nut Wings kits, but different subjects. You did a fine job of the kit and it looks fantastic.

Well James you have touched on a subject that I never really considered, but this little beauty has given me a new train of thought about sea creatures of WW2, really like your modeling technics and process method, we are on a level here and iI really like your commentary (I have tried this type of voice over on my model builds and fail at every turn, I sound like a cat being strangled by a set of bagpipes at a full squeal.) I must admit you have made this project look so easy but be restored I do know just how much time, effort, and time served skill building has been used here, and respect for you for this effort. thank you.

Thanks Uncle Fester much appreciated! I havent built many nautical subjects ( 2 very small scale subs a few years ago when re entering the hobby) but after this one I might branch out a bit more, keeps the bench more interesting for my minute attention span 😀 thanks for the kind words !

@@lpjmodels Oh!... Well, you're going to love this! (61SQD) on youtube, I have a model of Titanic built as a testbed for a 6ft model I hope to start next year + "Hellers" HMS Victory with the super brass detail kits thrown in for good measure😆 just cant wait to get stuck in👍

Those instructions remind more of a Lego set than a model kit. Would prefer if most of them were like that these days, as I hate steps where you need to apply hundreds of bits at once and you only get one view from which to use as a reference. Also, I think spru glue is extremely underated. You'll never get a better bond with anything else, and it's a lot less messy than ca glue or expoxy in my experience.

A fabulous piece of work, mate. As a military historian, I have also studied the history of the Imperial German Uboats. The construction of this model was again very time-consuming but the result is stunning. I'm always absolutely amazed by your craftsmanship. Thanks a lot for sharing, James. @@lpjmodels Maybe I could help you with requests like that. My wife and I worked for the "Deutsches U-Boot-Museum" next door to us until 2017. I just completed the same build. There are some amazing reference photos of U9 online that show some different paint details than shown in the kit. The most striking detail was with the two vertical masts that fold down into the top of the boat....the reference material shows one of them to be a very light color that is probably a light gray, then the other one is a dark color, either very dark gray or possibly black. Also, the two blisters on top of the boat that house the two hatches, the same reference photo shows them to painted in white and another color, probably red or safety orange. I just went with the paint guide in the instructions though. I still got a nice result, considering this was my first boat model.

Even as I watch this build, there is down stairs, the same Das Werk U9 kit with basic hull and deck assembly done. Now awaiting the addition of all those very small parts that detail U9. I haven't planned paint colours yet, but grey over black does look impressive, or two shades of grey should do the trick. Ì was wondering where all those wee turnbuckles on the sprue were going to go, now though, after watching this build the mystery has been solved. Thank you for making this video of the U9 build. I know that I will be referring to it often as my own assembly moves slowly towards completion.

@paulodonovan11423 жыл бұрын
@@lpjmodels It’s a great kit but there are some silly problems, one of which for example, you mentioned the covers towards the bow. I’ve seen other builders cut the deck to align these covers and do away with the gap at the front end. The surface details are beautiful though. The lack of full rigging instructions and the 3 dive plane points with only two shown in the instructions has had the modelling forums in a buzz. I’m no maritime modeller and certainly no expert on this vessel type so I’m just going to build this out the box as instructed and using references, add the rigging to finish her off. That said, if DW announced a WW.II type VII U-boat, I’d bite their arm off and be lying to my wife again at how much it cost 🤣. Really enjoy the videos mate, your work is fantastic. Please keep them coming. Cheers, Paul 👍🏻

Try releasing the trigger as you finish the stroke then press down again when you start back in the other direction... With a little practice you will find yourself getting more consistent and faster coverage using this method
