Now that she passed at the young age of 95 (wow that is a lot of life) I do admire her. She was a beautiful and talented lady and I think that red hair was no lie. She was fiery in real life; per the interviews I watched. She never apologized for ideas or her heritage to Ireland and I think sends feminists into a spiral....good because nothing more unfeminine are the feminists. She was her own person; walked away from Hollywood when was darn good and ready and was the FIRST woman to run a commercial airline. She was extremely intelligent and didn't need a man but she preferred having her husband, esp. her second husband by her side. She was imperfect as all of us are but if there ladies for young ladies to admire she is a farrr better example than the stuff we see today where the top gals sell themselves out in videos for money wearing less clothes than hookers...they are NOT the idols young gals should admire... Ms. OHara was. She had class!!!!!!!!

One of the most beautiful women of all time (maybe not the sexiest, but she had a bit of that in her also). And, she was so talented. Performances that will survive the test of time. We always talk about "The Quiet Man" But, she had moments in "The long Gray Line" that broke my heart. When the Academy gave her an Honorary Oscar, they should have also apologized for ignoring her accomplishments for so many years. Best wishes to the fans, friends & family of Ms FitzSimons. She has been such a gift to Ireland. To all those who care, May the sun always shine on your faces & the wind always blow at your backs. Love, Ted

I loved her in her youth. She was beautiful and I loved watching her in movies. Unfortunately, when people die at 95, they are completely forgotten and dismissed. Most people don't care. If someone remembers her, it's because we go back to her youth by watching videos like this. Living a long life has absolutely NO rewards. Just old age, old stories, caregivers, nursing homes, family visiting once in awhile, etc. That's the prize. Pray you don't live a long life.
@Celisar17 жыл бұрын
At what age would you prefer to die then? That would be interesting to know!

Finally, Maureen O'Hara is being honored with an honorary Oscar later this year. Why she never got nominated in the first place despite a great body of work is beyond anyone's comprehension.
@426Samuel9 жыл бұрын
Personally I think it was because of the people she was acting with. When she was in a movie like say with John Wayne, it was a John Wayne movie etc. I think even she realized that she was the back up actor for any film she was in. She was the talented window dressing. If you have been able to study her career thru video and print , you'll begin to see her own views of this to be true. The Quiet Man was the one in my humble opinion that she should have gotten an Oscar. But like I said, it was a John Wayne movie. I think some power brokers in Hollywood had a deep seeded anger toward Wayne for political reasons and she got ignored in the process. The Hunchback of Notre dame show cased her beauty and fiery acting abilities, but of course you know the rest of that story.
@grafter83379 жыл бұрын
Sam Britt This was certainly the case in John Ford movies. John Wayne got all the accolades and unfortunately the likes of Victor McLaglen, Ward Bond and Barry Fitzgerald were all scene-stealers. Maureen deserved more for lighting up the screen.

george fish Physical life is not reality. You just stated one of the obvious proofs of this: your mind is easily fooled through your brain and five senses. Your perception of an illusory "time", "space", and "matter" are mere limitation tricks to get you to buy into the unreality of a limited physical existence. You are an unlimited, eternal spiritual entity, not a limited, terminal physical being.
@georgefoster12418 жыл бұрын
Sun Of God You are afraid of death. You want to believe you exist forever. It doesn't work that way. You live and you die. End of story. Your spirit only last as long as a living being thinks of you alive or dead.

She could do it all - sing , dance, act, she even did many of her own stunt - you wouldn't want to get in a sword fight with her! And the whole time looked stunning. Kept her personal life out of the press. And all that was back in the day when studios essentially "owned" the rights to their actresses, and yet Maureen still did it her own way. I think she was the best Hollywood ever produced in any category you care to put her. I would put it all down to her good upbringing & knowing the value of hard work. There's quite a few of todays Hollywood types could take some lessons from Maureen's career on the right way to do things.

This is really old-fashioned clip and is typical of 1950s' American TV; very corny and compared with today, made with very poor production values. However, what shines from these fuzzy black and white images is the beauty and charisma of the legendary Maureen O'Hara. She has a gift of naturalness in speaking to people that shines out and was evident in every performance she gave throughout her film career. A very rare talent that is still shining today. God Bless You.
@jennifer8601010 жыл бұрын
Well said. Maureen O'Hara was and still remains a woman who is bigger than life, not because she was a screen legend, but because she has a very big heart...something that is lacking in subsequent generations of stars. Additionally, even though this TV show had primitive technology, notice how well Ralph Edwards interacted with and quickly interviewed each guest while keeping the show constantly moving along. Real talent, and without teleprompters or video tape machines. These broadcasts were often done live. Ralph really loved doing these shows, and he became one of Hollywood's biggest producers. I used to work across the street from his studios, and occasionally I'd bump into him in restaurants on Hollywood boulevard. 'Great guy !

My first movie star, next to Judy Garland. I remember going to my grandparents house and my Grandma Cook would pop in Miracle on 34th Street in the VHS player and we'd watch it around Christmas time, as she would give us something to do while she talked with my parents. Come St. Patrick's Day, The Quiet Man would be on television and with family, we'd watch that too. Maureen O'Hara has been apart of my life for all 28 years, and I was so glad, in her last year on Earth, she was finally recognized with an Honorary Oscar for a life's work in film. Not many stars of her generation were as lucky, as the the only other actor to get an Honorary Oscar for a life's work without a single nomination was Myrna Loy. Because she finally achieved recognition so sought after for years, her passing, though sad, was a final victory for a victorious life.
