Seems about right in the blade haha. Lasted about three seconds. I have the ultimate in personal protective equipment don’t I? I was hoping the flower pattern would prevent me losing them. That obviously worked well.

I was thinking of building something similar to this a few years ago. Then I realized I would bash my knees on it every time I walked around the back of the LR4. I decided to stay with the stock hitch and just smash into rocks instead. Looks good though.
@LostCauseRanch Жыл бұрын
Compromise either way haha. The nice thing about the factory one is it is super quick to remove. So at least you can pull it off with ease. Should paint it blaze orange and stick a flag on it haha.
@FlawedOffroad Жыл бұрын
Maybe some button heads or countersunk bolts on the bottom that would be the cherry on top. It looks good. PS it will still plow. The one on my jeep is higher and tight and I still find ways to bury it in creek beds haha. Great design!
@LostCauseRanch Жыл бұрын
I like countersunk idea. Oh it definitely will still drag some stuff I’m sure. Better than the plastic bumper haha.

Awesome job as the new hitch looks better than the Original Factory option. With regards the super safety gloves, to resolve your problem do as I do and have several pairs dotted around the workshop, that way you should never be too far away from a pair LOL 😂. Keep up the great work.😎👍

To those concerned about knocking your knees, just add a TerraFirma spare tire carrier and you won’t be able to get close enough to hit your knees, but then you’ll be smacking your shoulder cutting that right rear corner; just stay with the Subaru 😎

@Okierover Жыл бұрын
Put a little bumper in the hitch. That will keep those annoying cars with drivers who follow too close off your plastic bumpers. A hitch sticking out has saved me twice as the cars never reach the body. Good job. What did you bend that thick steel with?
@LostCauseRanch Жыл бұрын
Needs one of those Weathertech ones. This one would definitely destroy a grille as is. I’m not sure I will leave it in all the time, it’s simple enough to pull off. I have access to a couple shops with big press brakes.

@LostCauseRanch Жыл бұрын
I would dread the liability. I’m not even sure how you would handle that on a small scale. I remember our insurance for the repair shop specifically called out not even installing trailer hitches without a special rider for it. It was a blast to build though. Love this kind of thing.
@Physics072Ай бұрын
Nice work, what brand or model of black paint did you use? Looks to be a flat black which I like. did you prime it? Just curious as Im going to be painting one of my hitches wondering how well your paint has held up thanks.
@LostCauseRanchАй бұрын
It was primed beforehand. I used Seymour MRO satin black, it holds up pretty well. I am probably going to have it powder coated though now that I know it works and I’m happy with it.
@Physics072Ай бұрын
@@LostCauseRanch That is a great idea powder coating, should hold up even better. I painted my old one with some rustoleum black and it did not hold up well rusted anyway but we have salt on the roads in the winter.

I'd weld those nuts on the outside if there's clearance to undo the bolts from the other side.
@LostCauseRanch Жыл бұрын
There is not enough room up top to feed the bolt through. It has to be slid in at an angle through the oval hole before the plates are up to get it in. Would be nice to have those nuts welded on that bottom plate though.

@SavoyPrimeable Жыл бұрын
@@LostCauseRanch I’ll sign a liability waiver, Im dead serious😂
@LostCauseRanch Жыл бұрын
It would end up being well over that $200 mark unfortunately as I'm not set up for production work like that. The Safari Gard, Rhino and Mitch Hitch are all priced reasonably considering the materials and time going into them along with the low quantity of demand. But I'm not all too keen on the liability of selling something like this though haha, would have to get lawyers and insurance involved and who wants to do that haha. If there was a large enough run to get some of the pieces outsourced would be the only way to get anywhere below those guys price wise. But unfortunately I'm doubtful there would be the demand needed for the large quantity. They are fairly priced in my opinion. Who knows, maybe this one will be available someday. (Maybe a steel rear bumper build in the future).
