Great video Christian and vera. Vera made a good choice. Just be careful with the wheel spacers ; there has been cases of people losing wheels. I've got 30mm spacers on my defender but made sure the spacers had lock tight on the threads when fitting them. Keep an eye on your wheel bearings as apparently spacers put more stress on them. Enjoy !
@samrodian9193 жыл бұрын
Yes the wheel spacers do put the bearings under a heavier load. You can expect to have to replace them on a earlier interval than normal. Christian, I hope sincerely that the bearings are replaceable and that you don't have to replace the whole hub assembly. Although sometimes it's a blessing to replace the hub, as getting the bearings out can sometimes be a nightmare if you do not have access to a hydraulic press. Using the time honoured spacer and threaded rod can be a pain in the arse!
@Vera_and_Christian3 жыл бұрын
@chris lant @SAMRODIAN We have replaced already too many wheelbearings on this car without having wheel spacers on😢 . We'll see, what happens. We love the look, and that the main reason why we put them on. If they don'T work out, well take them off. At least we can make then another video about it. 👍🙋♀️ Vera

Watch "Grizzly n Bear " suffer swivel failure, look at "Defender Mods and Travels" superb analysis of axle failures and I think you will decide to remove the spacers.....before this I'd also had only a vague view on reduced bearing life. Nice to see the upgrade guys! On my D4 I have 265/65 r18 and I love them. I didn’t install spacers as I don’t think my D4 needed them, but also my understanding is that you risk causing damage to the wheel bearings and other such things. Essentially because the spacer puts more distance and so leverage between the part and where the force is being applied.

Yes, but our LR3 maxes out at 180 km/h on the Autobahn anyhow. So we are not really worried about it 😂. We run the 3rd bearings on at least one wheel too. Smiley faces all round! I would have stuck with the 19" option, they're awesome, and no spacers. You were very economical with the copper slip - between wheel and disc interface - corrosion city in salty weather and between the disc and hub. Also, from the previous video the floating brake pins, but, considering it's age the car is in remarkable condition. Given the nutters on the autobahns I'm glad the TUV do a good job of inspecting any upgrades - in the UK there's loads of "kids" running around with lowered and widened suspensions with no thought for geometry (you should realign the wheels as well) and clearances. Fortunately, they don't last long here, they usually crash, but we are very tolerant of these modifications for some reason, including the insurance companies.... Great, fun video.

Great video! We run 275/65r18 on our LR3, on the stock wheels. Offroad it is better to have a slightly narrower wheel, as it keeps the beads tucked in. We have the OME coil conversion, with the HD springs and 2" lift. 235,000 km on the original wheel bearings, and it gets used offroad in Northern Canada. I've been lucky I guess. I love the stance with the spacers, but I have seen far too many failures to ever consider running spacers. It's still crazy to me all the regulations and inspections you have to go through. We do whatever we want in regards to modifications. If your vehicle looks obviously unsafe, the police can force an inspection, but it is pretty rare.

Also, yesterday, I just stuck 18" BMW X5 wheels on my D4 with 265/60/18 Achilles Dessert Hawk Mts on, and they fit perfectly (after getting the centre bore skimmed ever so slightly and different lug nuts), and they look almost factory LR. I have run General Grabber tyres on my RangeRover Sport. They will last a long time without much tread wear. However, they risk tyre wall failure after maybe 5 years. I have suffered 2 high speed blow-outs at 70 mph. I am returning to using Factory specification Pirelli Scorpion tyres from now on, for a softer ride without excessive tyre noise. I also run a Discovery 3 vehicle which I have BF Goodrich tyres fitted for All Terrain driving. These tyres will last much longer than the General Grabber tyres, without catastrophic blow-outs at high speed. But, eventually they will start to lose tyre pressure and can be run for another year if a tube is also fitted at that time. Please explain why you fitted the extenders to your vehicle? Your channel is great, by the way.
@Vera_and_Christian3 жыл бұрын
Actually just for the looks of it. We cannot do a lot of modifications to our car, but we always loved the beefy tires. We do know the pros and cons and we wanted to try them out. 👍🙋♀️ Vera
@Rickwardful3 жыл бұрын
@@Vera_and_Christian Thank you Vera. Yes, the extenders do make your Discovery 3 look more “Chunky”. Another question please: I’ve noticed that the wheels you are using are the 5 spoke “S” type, but it looks to me that the interior is the beige type leather(?) which would be for the “SE” or ‘“HSE’” model. I think you also have a manual type transmission. Manual Type transmissions are a no-cost option in the “HSE” in the UK. Which seems wrong to me, because Automatic transmission options for the “S” and “SE” are an option that costs Extra. Which actual model do you and Christian have? I have had both Manual and Automatic Discovery 3’s. The one I have now is a Silver “S” with the Automatic transmission. The reason I went for this model is that on the Manual Transmission versions, the Hand-brake always engages, whenever you remove the ignition keys, causing it to fail much sooner. However, by using the Park “P” with the Automatic, the only time my Hand-brake is ever used is the day each year that it has its MOT (the same as your TUV), so it never wears out! Also the Automatic transmission never wears out the Clutch, which is an expensive repair when needed. However I think that despite LR saying that the Automatic Transmission is filled with ATF for life, it really should be properly replaced (Flushed) every 80-100,000 miles. Contrary to what many say about the Discovery 3, I have either been very lucky regarding reliability or my one is a very good one. I honestly believe it to be my most liked vehicle I have ever had. As a Farmer, it has to do everything for me, which it does admirably and comfortably, every time. I actually prefer driving it more than my 2010 RangeRover Sport! Keep up the good work with your Videos. They really are very good.
