There has to be a different method of getting sensors into that engine, that method seems at best wrong.
@scottmccain1132 ай бұрын
They make adapters to put that sensor in the head for about $20
@noboltsleftbehind2 ай бұрын
I do know that, but I don't like how the adapter holds the sensor away from the head and outside of the coolant passage. This makes it read lower than it should.

Did you have to change out the oil pan
@noboltsleftbehind12 күн бұрын
@@hash46176 yes I did. I used an oil pan, pickup tube, and windage tray from an 4th gen f-body (Camaro / Firebird) LS1. I go into detail about it in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/boG7ooWqi9OWnKc

I have a c3 and interested in doing same swap! What engine mounts did you use and crossmember for transmission did you use?
@noboltsleftbehind14 күн бұрын
@@brendancomer3744 nice! I’ve been very happy with how it’s working out so far. The engine mounts are just generic small block adapter plates amazon, they were like 20 bones. And I just modified the factory automatic transmission crossmember, I go into detail on how I did it in this episode: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHTHY5iAZZiZhZY

There are approximately 2 million brackets to relocate the alternators and water pumps outlet. 😂 you can even fabricate them. ( the KZbin channel will support the content creation)
@noboltsleftbehind2 ай бұрын
I'll probably fab something up for the alternator bracket, I've always seemed to have trouble with aftermarket brackets throwing belts. And fabrication is free 😂

That’s sweet how far back you got the engine to sit. I’m curious how this thing will handle. Wonder what the weight distribution will be.

Dude I was surprised. I'll see if I can get corner scales and test the front / rear weight but it has to be close to 50/50

Sometimes you get more room putting intake on backwards, maybe a cowl induction hood would give you the room,.. maybe not 🔧🔧

That might actually be a good option, is the truck intake able to be installed backwards?

Maybe a water pump from a Camaro will work better, if I’m not mistaken, the two hose fittings come out the front,…
@noboltsleftbehind2 ай бұрын
I think the radiator outlet comes out in a better spot but the problem with switching to a different water pump is I'd have to buy a new crank pulley, alternator, brackets, the whole thing since it sits at a different position. I'm way to cheap for that 😂

What are the holes in the floor pan at 8:43?
@noboltsleftbehind2 ай бұрын
Those are on the frame, I think access holes to bolts?
@mrsaiyanaa2 ай бұрын
@noboltsleftbehind I only bring it up due to water infiltrating it and rusting out the frame or floor pan. I have a 1965 Mustang I am restomodding, and the undercarriage has rubber plugs for all those holes.
@noboltsleftbehind2 ай бұрын
@@mrsaiyanaa good looking out, yeah the frame has a bit of surface rust, luckily the floor pans are all fiberglass so all good there.

why use the 4.8? you may end up dissapointed at the power it produces. 5.3 would have been better. the price is the same for both
@noboltsleftbehindАй бұрын
They say the shorter stroke (and/or square cylinder?) makes the 4.8 better for boost. And I did find this 4.8 cheaper than I was finding comparable 5.3s.

I know it’s to late but they do have adapter for the sensors
@noboltsleftbehind2 ай бұрын
I mentioned this briefly in the video, but I don't like the fact that the adapter for the coolant holds it away from the head. It's my understanding the sensor probe should be inside the head itself to get an accurate reading. The oil one is so easy to drill and tap it's not worth bothering with an aftermarket one

This swap makes absolutely and I mean absolutely no sense You swap a 289 engine when you had a 350 engine??? You’re not running a turbo why a 4.8 ? You bought a whole truck to tear it apart for a smaller engine? Absolutely no sense All you had to do was put a cam better heads and intake on the 350 small block ,,,vortec sbc heads flow just as good as 706 LS heads that’s what 706 heads are based off of the whole 4.8-5.3 LS engine is based off the L31 the LS just has better cam and a way bigger and better intake
@noboltsleftbehindАй бұрын
New heads and cam for a Chevy 350 = $1,500. New intake manifold = $300. Plus tax and shipping. Result? High mileage smog-era 50 year old 350 making what, 300hp? 4.8L LS engine = free. Result is a low mileage, 20yr old modern motor also making 300hp with tons of potential for future upgrades, including turbos. Make sense?
