Aweeome mate. I definitely would love a 4x4 for the same reasons. Not fussed wether it's LS v8 petrol or diesel. doesn't matter too much to me as long as it gets me out there and gets me home. Keen to see how the build develops.

Plan it out as best you can. If you want a turbo wait to upgrade the exhaust. I would use an alloy roof rack.

Hey mark, I probably a little late to the party but I have an Rb30 Gq and I love it they are such an unbelievably capable vehicle I have a set of titan draws and a kings rooftop tent roof rack and I love it if you cut the two front supports out it nicely takes a 40 inch lightbar in the roof rack and as for the Titans they are good price and fantastic quality I can’t say enough good things about them good luck mate love your choice of car

Patrol docca not patrol doctor just for future reference 😄 Also recommend rhino roof racks titan or drifta draws XR seats 80ch uhf 12 vault setup for a fridge or camp light awning stainless steel snorkel and air box I recommend 3 inch and then a 3 inch exhaust probably a supercharger instead of a turbo just because it’s an ls egt what’re temp and boost gauge (if u get a turbo) mud tires and that’s my input

Having the car for a bit do u regret getting the petrol v8 over a diesel If u had ur time again would u go diesel or does that not matter to you Just ask ikng coz I got a gq with rd28 turbo motor with a bad head and considering what motor to replace it with

Nah not at all, diesel doesn’t matter at all to me. I bought this car because of the ls1 and I’d still prefer that over any diesel to be honest. The amount of power even out of a standard ls1 would cost sooo much to get the same out of a diesel

NICE rig. I've got an LS1 SWB but it's manual. I want to know more about your gearbox! :) What is it? An RE4? Where from? How much? How does the overdrive work??

Thanks mate! I don’t know all the details this is how I bought it, but yeah it’s an re4 built to handle 800hp apparently by wholesale automatics. The previous owner said he spent 6-7k on it but not sure how true that is 😂 so you have the power button on, and drive it manually 1,2,D the click the power button off for 4th then there’s a converter lockup button for 5th

So you have a separate power button (switch?) .. and when it's turned on you shift gears using the stick (1st, 2nd, 3rd which is 'D')... and then if you're on the hwy you turn the switch off and it automatically goes into a 4th gear (overdrive)?? Is that how it works? Can you just drive it like an auto full time as well if you don't turn the power on?

Yeah man that’s it! Just the factory o/d switch on the shifter get you to 4th then there’s another switch on the dash that locks the converter up for essentially a 5th

If you want a touring car lean towards a n/a combo. Do your research on a nice cam that’s good fo torque. Build the rig up for torque incase you need that extra bit under the foot. I have a ls1 I built with the vcm16 camshaft and I made 540nm of torque with standard heads and exhaust manifolds I built that are chocking the engine up. Turbo would be great if you were serious about 4x4 and use the vehicle all the time. But with what you wanna do, a tuff n/a setup would be killer. Turbo you’ll forever maintain it thorough and have to worry all the time about temps and plugs ect. Just my theory. Iv just braught a gq, it was my mates that’s no longer with us anymore he sold it 6 years ago and I tracked it down recently a tuff n/a ls conversion is on the list to do. Chase torque mate, na setup is killer

get a dual battery system and then start getting accessories, most importanly get a snorkel before you go anywhere with it. clean car mate

Honesty mate don't waste your money on a turbo a supercharger makes more sense and more reliable then turbo

Have never really been a fan of superchargers, we had one on my brothers old Maloo and it made ok power, but we ripped it off as it would heat soak all the time... went twin turbo and the difference was huge way more power and lower temps, a blower does make more sense than a turbo with the lower rpm mostly when 4x4ing. So yeah I still dunno which way I want to go 😂😂

It just has a 2.5inch fairly standard exhaust, with one muffler, I think it has the marks headers but I’m not %100 sure, I’ll be upgrading to a 3inch pretty soon I think
