They were just infants and couldn't comprehend these complex dynamics, but the emotions were buried deep in their Saiyan instincts. In their present-day battle, Broly suddenly recognized his punching opponent - this was the same person who had defeated him all those years ago. Goku is HIM.

Brolys body is basically a pressure vessel with all that power. When goku pierced his body, it basically allowed all that built up power inside to be released at once, which is why he explodes. Broly had immense power, but not even he could fully keep it under control.

I always felt like in this scene, it wasn't the energy itself that was given to goku that made the difference. I believe that Goku felt that he couldn't lose after being entrusted with the everyone's power, which made him stronger mentally, and that was what gave him the strength to beat Broly here. If you think about it, this isn't fusion, fusion multiplies the energy between users while energy transfer is merely addition. The energy he gathered from everyone here couldn't have been enough to beat Broly.

I think what he did was he focused all his gathered energy into one punch. Broly is much stronger than Goku even with the energy that he received, but his energy was evenly distributed around his body, allowing Goku's fist to penetrate both his ki shield and his body like a blade. That's why Broly exploded: He was literally popped like a balloon.

Broly is definitely stronger than perfect cell and maybe even super perfect cell. Remember this movie takes place at the time of the cell games so everyone is as powerful in this movie as in the cell saga. Broly took Gokus full powered kamehameha to the face and it didn’t leave a scratch, but a instant transmission kamehameha obliterated cell. And Goku could 1v1 cell and win but Goku and piccolo combined couldn’t harm Broly even a bit.

Realized something: Broly/kale in this form are too strong and overpowering to be worn down in a battle and a one shot victory is the only way to get them. They don't take gradual damage and can keep fighting if their opponent doesn't have enough to best them in one blow. In a way broly could outlast everyone as well as kale unless their opponent one shots them. Other villains take damage. It's similar to kid buu they just don't really take damage
