Ed O doesn't love LSU. He loved that we offered him the job. Dude wanted to be at USC. If he loved LSU he would have negotiated a smaller buyout. But any job, there has to be character, reliability and many other wants for LSU football to be successful. I trust Scott with this hire. I don't care what race the coach is, just get us a good coach.

I'd argue the hire he made at TAMU was more important in his career. TAMU has a history of making hires that prioritize prior connections to the program, and hadn't made a great hire since the 90s. LSU has won national championships under their last three coaches. LSU has a huge recruiting advantage, being the lone flagship university in a state full of great prospects.

No disrespect to TAMU, but if Fisher totally flamed out there, it wouldn't be that big of a deal. However, if the next HC at LSU totally bombs, that would be a much bigger blow to Woodward's reputation, one that could be unrecoverable from if it were that bad.

It's Petersen. I'm calling it. I think Woodie has had him on station in Washington for two years knowing Ed would have to go. Of all the names out there currently, name one that will show up the Sunday after the A&M game ready to go and round up this good instate recruiting class? No bowl/playoff complications. No back and forth with their current school's counter offers. He's "shovel ready." Coach Petersen ran a good program that won at a high level and developed talent in fricking Idaho. 80% winning percentage. Got to the Playoffs with Washington. I've been reading up on him a bit in articles from his tenure. His kid that had the cancer that kept him at Boise is grown now. A big reason he did not leave Boise is because Boise had a clause in his contract that allowed him to recruit close to home and basically limited extended recruiting travels while his son was sick. (How far does he have to travel now in Louisiana for talent?) It all just makes sense. Woodie has been playing a long game of chess. Chris Petersen, come on down to Red Stick and get your ring! Chris Peterson has publicly stated that he is "completely burned out" and never wants to coach again. He's got a cushy job with the University of Washington, which he says he loves. I wouldn't be opposed to Peterson, but if he was burned out from the 'pressures of coaching' at the University of Washington, he won't do well in Baton Rouge with all of the immense pressure that comes with the job.

Hiring Mel Tucker would be a major mistake. As Tucker is utterly unproven. As not only is this only his third year as a head football coach but also he didn't build that Michigan State team. He inherited it from his predecessor. Hiring Tucker would be analogous to Texas hiring Tom Herman because of what Herman did at Houston with his predecessor's players. There is only one person Woody should hire and that is Lane Kiffin. Why? Because LSU can't afford to permit Lane Kiffin to remain at Ole Miss. As he will inevitably kick LSU's ass on the recruiting trail and on the football field on a regular and routine basis. If Woody hires anyone else, then it means he is severely incompetent.
